Not my car, but my sisters. She just picked it up yesterday:

Image

2011 Black/Black Sentra w/ 3K miles & clean CarFax. Dealer was asking $17,2xx, and she got it down to $15,5xx.

Really proud of her, as she's only 18. She saved and put down a large deposit all by herself, got a loan by herself and without a co-signer, and dealt with the dealer and signed the papers herself. I feel bad, as she's forced to compare herself to her friends in school who drive BMWs, Escalades, and Mustangs. But she did really well for herself.

Anyway, she was looking at some other vehicles that are a tad more fun or nicer, but they came with a lot more miles and shorter warranties. She wanted peace of mind going through school, and chose to play it smart. The Sentra has a 3yr/36K Bumper to Bumper, and 7yr/100K Powertrain warranty.

3/36? That's it? My Infiniti (it's a nissan with a badge on it...at least for the rest of the world) had 4/60. Warranty and roadside assistance is where it's at when you can't afford to replace a transmission though, gotta admit.

She's half mine, my fiancée and I share our cars and we split the costs down the middle (that way we can actually afford nicer cars, cause if I had to buy my own I'd just get a motorcycle or something else real cheap).

2009 Passion Coupe 42. A very exciting car to ride in. We had to pull a Uturn yesterday and it was crazy how tightly it turns! And we can't forget the parking perks.

The 3/36 covers everything, even stuff like electric windows, folding seats, etc. Stuff that she agrees she could live without. Even still, that will last her through most of college.

It's the SEVEN years, 100K mile warranty she likes; because most like that are 5/100. Well, she knows there's no way she'll put 100K miles on it in that amount of time, so she basically won't have to worry about a transmission, alternator, starter, timing belt, etc until 2018... loooong after she graduates.

EDIT: And oh yeah, we have roadside assistance (full tank of gas, car unlocking, battery jump, up to 200 tow, no deposit) through our insurance.

No way i'd buy one of those. You'd die if you hit something as large as a small kitten in that thing. lol.

Almost zero crumple zone means you're gonna break your ankles/feet/legs in most any head-on crash; and lets see what happens when it hits a two-ton truck or SUV.

This will be my last post on the subject. That's great if the person who posted likes their car. I'm glad! That's the only thing that matters. But I agree, not only is the vehicle unattractive and lacking in any kind of performance or "cool factor", it's also silly to say it's very safe. I'm sure it gets awesome gas mileage, though!

I agree 100%. I
t gets around 40 MPG, which plenty of other cars also get.

You can get 36mpg out of a 300 CRD. It kinda makes me wish they had sold them here in the States :(

40mpg out of something that small is really a ripoff IMHO .It should get 80mpg!

The question wasn't how safe/unsafe is the car. The earlier post was suggesting that basically any crash would instantly kill you. The reply to that was just showing that, while not excellent, obviously, the car can hold up fairly well in a pretty severe impact. Sure, you will get some injuries, but certain death, as originally suggested is pretty far from certain.

Well but you can't park a 300 in a 3 meter space, now can you?

I wasn't meaning it as literally as you guys took it. Hard to detect that on here though. Just saying i wouldn't feel safe at all in it. But it's his car, if he enjoys/likes it, that's all that matters.

Best reply EVER! :D

I was actually about ready to say I'd be afraid to drive it around here with all the coal trucks on small mountain roads, but then again, I wouldn't ride a motorcycle, either.

But not as safe as a Ford Fiesta ;)

I'd love to have a real motorcycle. The only things my old scooter had in common with a real motorbike were 2 wheels, the fact it used petrol and that I needed to pay road tax on it every year. Also, I'm in a new country, so will start with driving a car before a bike (if I ever ride a bike on the streets). I'd love to get a bike for track days though, but that's one of those pipe dreams!

Unfortunately I know of one person my age (we went to the same school back in England) in a smart car in a fatal collision, I know plenty of people get into similar accidents in regular small cars and live to tell the tale though.

But you're outweighing the risks with the rewards, your smart is probably cheaper to insure and is better for parking in cities than a Fiesta, so that's a good reason for you, plus you have another car which is probably more fun/useful.

I've been in a Smart Coupe and those little things seem to be fun, a real modern MG Midget, just they don't have the parking benefits or the fuel consumption if you drive it how it wants to be driven of the original Smart.

I'm not sure what I'll get over here yet (that'll be over a year though). There are plenty of new Chargers around, and I love the look of those, plus the idea of a V-engine kind of sounds good for someone who has always had i-4 engines...

Street riding isn't worth it, but once you smoke the track crack... well, enjoy being broke. :) I don't regret it.

My old car, prior to the kids. I had kept it around as a spare/weekend car but now with 2 kids and no room in the garage nor the time.. it made more sense to sell it. Sold it a couple of months back, great car.

Here's the daily driver nowadays, just as fun but holds much more.

made the same switch last year from e46 --> a4. nice avant!
