U don't wanna know bro....
I still can't believe I spent the money myself. I only signed a 1 year lease on it though. So technically it's not really "My car", but it's amazing fun to drive.

1 year lease? I'll go ahead and say $4k/month. Figure it's a $200k car and Mercedes is going to make sure to come out ahead on the lease, and it is a niche car so it may not drop as bad as "regular" cars but it's still gotta drop a good bit, so figure conservatively it somehow only loses $35k in value (that's very conservative though), so $4k at 12 months is $48k, even then Mercedes only comes out $13k ahead.

How close am I?

Just got a certified pre-owned 2010 Jetta Wolfsburg Edition with the 2.0T engine. Love it so far! Still stock, but I want it chipped and get some fog lights and xenons for it.

You deduction is excellent.
That would be approximately the right amount.
However, I pay a bit less than that because of a work related deal I negotiated with the dealership. Gave up a lot to get this car for just a year. But hey, we're young once right?

My other car is a Mercedes-Benz too. I love there product.

Damn! All of you that own an Audi, Benz or BMW what the hell do you do if you don't mind asking?

Work at Wall St?
The majority of these cars are leased, which makes monthly payments more affordable. I have done that in the past, leasing a 5er and an M3. I bought my STi. If I were by myself and only needed one car I would probably go back to leasing a nice BMW.

I think with the internet age a lot of young people have been able to make a lot of money very quickly.
There are more young millionaires now than ever before. Overall with good education, hard work and luck, us young people have been able to achieve good returns.

Plus, our parents were very self sufficient. They even managed to save a decent amount for their kids' education. So many Gen Y kids are education-debt free or have light loads of debt incurred due to educational loans. At least that's how it has been in Canada.

That's the money said...

Cars have become cheaper too. Luxury cars are much cheaper in today's dollars than they were 25 years ago along with record low interest rate. Leases are going for 1-4% per annum now.

Work like a @#$!!. Bear in mind that not everyone here is still in their "starving college student" years. Everything is relative.

OTOH, I live alone and have more than one registered vehicle. I've never leased.

I only need one vehicle but it's fairly easy to rationalize several.
