Just around the river bend
Picked up a new garage buddy for my Civic. 335i 6sp MT...first car I've owned w/ a 'significant' torque figure.

*Edit: have started messing w/ it...came out a bit lower after a long night of blood, sweat, and beers*

Welcome to Direct Injection. With the fuel going directly into the cylinder, it no longer washes the valves leading up to the coking. Though it always seems to be worse on the German engines. Whenever I look up valve coking, it's a BMW or VW engine. I'm not sure if it is due to import owners being more maintenance minded compared to domestic owners, the Germans going with forced induction, where until recently( so no long term results yet) most of GM engines with DI were naturally aspirated( which does seem to play a little bit of a role), etc.

I am still debating if I should get a catch can for my Camaro, but I value my warranty too which a catch can has the potential of voiding..... And I can't find much of any pictures of the LT1 valves for build up and the one I did manage to find with a claimed 35,000 miles looked fairly clean....

Your spot on. Direct injection has its perks but its downsides as well(as with anything I guess). I'm getting ready to purchase a catch can in the coming weeks since I just got my car back this evening. My mother had a BMW 335D and the carbon build up got so bad that it seized two of the valves. It literally got an entire new engine from Germany, the car was out of commission for about a month. Luckily it was all done under warranty with a loaner car provided by them. If I remember right the 335D(maybe other BMW's/cars) was supposed to keep running or something like that periodically after you shut it off to help burn off the deposits. And I guess there was some sort of problem where my moms car stopped doing that. Thats why it was under warranty, it was the cars fault in a sense. Carbon build up is an easy thing to over look but it can cause catastrophic damage to your engine.

Wow impressive. I'm also shocked you have that many miles on a 14. I have a regular '14 Jetta SE and barely have 20k on it.

I drive a lot. Being in Arizona I have made lots of trips to California for vacation and it has been to Chicago and back twice, then commute to work, etc, etc...it's been my favorite car to date though and by doing things like this it should last many more miles!

It depends. The older BMW turbo engines with DI (N54) have horrible carbon build up and an oil catch can with periods cleanings were absolutely necessary, but the more recent engines have less of an issue (better PCV design).

Example: Picture of an S55 engine (BMW M3/M4) after 60,000 miles.

Nice.

Before I get a catch can for the LT1, I want to be sure it is necessary for the engine. The catch can makers( Elite Engineering, Mishimoto, etc) are all using images of the N54 and various VW engines with horrible carbon build up to sell their catch cans. GM did put an oil/air separator on the Camaro's variant of the LT1 on the CCV, but nothing on the PCV. Just sucks there are less images/examples of carbon build up issues with GM's DI engines. People who do have a catch can on their Camaro SS's, vary between having very little oil being in the can to a decent amount caught. No one running without a can has removed their intake manifold to look at the valves.....

Gorgeous. Silverstone?
yessir! it's the most decent paint option available for the car. white is played out and the rest of the paint selection on this platform is, lack of a better word, crap. and i was not willing to pay a ridiculous $5000 extra for an 'individual' color.

2010 Mazdaspeed 3. It's been a while since I've last posted the car, and I've done a few things (mostly cosmetic) things to it! What I've done to it is:
  • Evo 8 OEM Enkei's, badly plastidipped purple wrapped in Yokohama high performance (can't remember the name) 235/40/17 tires. Initially borrowed them from my friend with a DSM and I ended up buying them off him. Love how they look and the slightly meatier tire. Huge difference in handling performance!
  • Front lip from eBay. I really enjoy how it's completely transformed the front of the car.
  • VHT Nightshade (Red) over taillights. Initially had them wrapped, but the wrap faded and looked like garbage after a month or two. Why I didn't go with nightshade to begin with? I don't know. With proper preparation and care, nightshade can turn out fantastic!
  • Unknown brand solid shifter bushings. Paired with the weighted blox racing shift knob, shifting is buttery smooth. It's fantastic!
  • Various LEDs around the car. Matte clear plastidipped emblems (satin-ish finish), matte black plastidipped the fog light surrounds.
  • What's coming? Corksport adjustable shocks + lowering springs, window tint, Cobb AP, more!

Thanks, I appreciate it! I really wish they would bring it back too! The third generation Mazda 3's are absolutely gorgeous, and boy, I was sad when they announced they're not going to make Mazdaspeed models in this current generation.

Picked this up yesterday. 2017 GTI S DSG... Debated between the S and the Sport, but ultimately decided on the S. I'm never going to track the car and will probably buy aftermarket wheels at some point anyway. I think I made the right choice. I wish I had paid closer attention during the test drive though. The wheel alignment is off from the factory so that will need to be corrected. Also, the car appears to be manufactured in Sept of 2016, so the fact that sat on the lot for that long kind of stinks. I'm surprised because it's not a particularly unpopular model.

My fear that the dealership used my car as the test drive dummy for 9 months and then rolled back the odometer is ridiculous, right?

Looks good, you have nothing to worry about. Reason it sat is because the Sport with the performance pack and LSD standard is a tremendous value and is what everyone has been picking up. But the S is still a great car anyway so nice pickup.

Quick shot of my wife's car yesterday after the 50k mile service at the dealer. Also replaced the wiper blades as well as did a preventative maintenance battery replacement since the factory one is now 5 years old and I'd rather not get a surprise call when my wife needs a jump start out of the blue. Also got new tires and an alignment a few months ago, needs absolutely nothing...has been a GREAT car for 5 years/50k miles:

And whoring my new Tig just because:

I'm coming from a car that barley made it from point A to point B. I also avoided driving it as much as I could. This will be a huge change and I'm beyond excited!

I'll post a real picture once the car is delivered.
