Mitsubishi adressed the problem with upgrading the traction and stability control (M-ASTC) but it was more of a freak accident during the questionable CR report (which recently even admitted flaws in conducting child seat studies which is not the first case of such admittance http://www.care2.com/news/member/410698035/277049 , long time ago they bashed Suzuki Samurai for being "turnable" and then few years later admitted that basically the people who were responsible for the test were not performing the standard routines but really some hard core driving that would turn over most other vehicles).

I don't really like Consumer Reports. They are totally biased. I just remember them saying that they wouldn't test either the Montero or Montero Sport on a track because it was too unsafe.

10 years ago i accompnied my parents to the range rover dealership to testdrive, and despite their brand's reputation for luxury and prestige, when i felt underneath the glovebox it was all cardboard!! any car that costs 70k+ should have no cardboard assembly, period. my parents ended up buying a german SUV that was low maintenance and easy to drive.

Actually, I really don't think it matters. The OP, when said "car", just means what automobile you drive. If he means an actual car, I will go and make a different thread.

Yes i ment automobile.... car/suv same thing, it really should be "your means of transportation" ;)

Oh that's nice... -drools-
What year? Any mods?

It's pretty clean. Since this picture I put a power commander on it, plus a Scorpion carbon pipe and had it dyno'd and remapped.
A couple of more carbon pieces but it has enough power as she sits. I recently ordered an extra seat in white and blue with a GSXR logo on it but that's just for "pimp'n"!

Some BMW's have cardboard trunk floors to reduce weight.

This is from the Thursday after thanksgiving. My car is the red one. About 1 hour later I put my car into a curb and had to do some repairs on it.

It is taken after a snow storm hit Lubbock after thanksgiving. The snow is at least 3 inches deep all around most of it being 4 inches and the stuff on the trunk was over 1 foot think.

im surprised that bimmers have cardboard floors, tho i have the same in my acura trunk - but at least the trunk is rarely seen or felt, whereas the glovebox is always within arm's reach.

to be fair, my uncle has a 2007 range rover and it doesnt have the cardboard underneath the glovebox - but ever since the ownership of the flailing range rover brand changed a couple of times has the quality of their SUVs risen, so it's unfair to compare the two.

That reminds me of the time I spoke to an employee of the New York DMV... we were working on a technical issue (I forget what, now) and while we were waiting for something to happen, I asked him the funniest license plate he'd seen recently. His answer:

3M TA3

Think about it. ;)
I feel stupid I dont get it

I wouldn't call it that luxurious. Cheap leather, cheap interior. Its more "Gimicky" with power running boards for people that can't can't make the 3" step into the car and power liftgate for people that can't pull a handle. Performance wise it drives like a truck I would guess, cause its built on the chasis of one.

Design wise the navigator is wayyyy to chunky. I've been in Navigators and Expeditions. I have found that they are massive on the outside, but on the inside you would expect more room. Look at the front end of your Navigator. Between the grill and the radiator there is like 1ft of nothing. I always thought Lincolns had hideous wheels too.

BTW I wouldn't go with a Cayenne. Their interiors suck. My mom has the Touareg which has the same frame and much better interior. The Cayennes have better engines available like the turbo but unless you are racing your 6000lb suv you won't be needing it. Same with the Audi q7. I think the interior is blah but it does offer the 3rd row seating which makes it a good option. No one except VW offers the V10 TDI though :) :).

The point of an SUV is to be more capable than sedans and vans and wagons. Real Luxury SUVs include Land Rovers, Lexus GX and LX, Toyota Land Cruiser, Touareg,, G500, etc. They have the ability to be luxurious and be capable off road. Cars like X5, M-Class, with AWD and no low range 4wd and basically giant station wagons. Chunky cars with no ground clearance are like giant minivans with poor gas mileage.

And what makes range/land rovers strange?

I've seen the Touareg, they're very nice.

The "Strange" part of my "funny" joke doesn't really mean anything. I like them fine I guess (after thinking about them), especially the back row and its windows :D . To me, I just don't like the boxy-looking cars.

Well first off I doubt that thing was 60k and if you actually did spend that much you got ripped off and if somehow that was a good deal I would never spend 60k on that.

I agree the 2007 are ugly. But the dealer probably has only sold one cause they just came out.

1. I can upload a picture of the window sticker.

2. Lol, it's not mine like I said. It's my mom's.

3. The MSRP is 60k, but with my mom's trade in, plus some E-price Lincoln gave her, it was lowered down into the low 40k's. And she does admit sometimes it's not what she payed for :(

The 2007 Navigators are one of the ugliest...things...I have seen. I may like Navigators, but for the 2007 models, it's got too much chrome and it looks bigger than ever, not to mention the upcoming Navigator L. And ever since we drove by the dealership to take my nephew home once, they have been trying to get my mom to get a 2007 Navigator, when she just bought hers in August '06.

Well there is a difference between a Range Rover and a Land Rover. Range Rover's don't have the stepped roof with the "strange" windows. LR3s and Discoveries do. Inside though its quite nice. Having 2 sunroofs, alpine windows, and big windows really opens up the interior. The LR3 is awesome with the panoramic roof.

The VW although somewhat feminine is such a nice car to drive. Its very car like although it does stop like an SUV. There isn't a rattle, creak, or vibration anywhere. Excellent interior build quality although its reliabilty has been horrendous. I would say the Touareg has one of the best interiors of any SUV aside from the Range Rover.

Yea, I love the 1" Navigation Screen and the stupid door that covers it up. Why would you never shut it. That plastic looks cheap and seems like the paint would chip off of it.

The screen is bigger than 1" :p but yes that cover is annoying. At least it help keeps things from hitting it like kids. Only thing is...the 2007's don't have that cover. That may be 1 thing I like about them. I have now, after seeing the site, like Range Rovers...especially Discoveries, but my mom stays with Lincoln :( . But like I said, so far, it's been my favorite car she's had since its so roomy and feature-loaded. I'd like to ride in a Range Rover to see how they are though! :)

Also, the paint hasn't chipped off yet but I'll let ya know when it does ;)

My neighbor has a Rangey, it is beautiful. I am quite jealous. Full Air suspension- it should ride pretty nice.

Unless you are living in Europe, which I assume you're not, the discoveries are not made anymore. They're LR3's now and look totally different.

I like the Discoveries...never seen an LR3 before. But you're right, I don't live in Europe. But I'll be there over the summer so I'll look for a Discovery...or any RR for that matter.

LR3's are called Discovery III's in Europe. They changed the name in the US to try to get rid of the stereotypes about the ride and handling of the discoveries.

I suggest you try one out, they are quite comfortable.

Aah, they look awesome. We'll probably test drive one next time we go to Mepmhis; they have every car dealership that I can think of in Memphis. Usually I like riding in the passenger seat but from the looks of the LR3, I'll probably be in the back mostly :D

Do you guys know if LR2's (Freelander 2 in UK) are available in the United States? On the US website it says they are coming out in Spring of 07, but when I visit the UK site, it says all the pricing and everything. So I was just wondering if you guys have seen any out over there.

Last time I was at the rover dealership, was... a couple weeks ago and they didn't have any. I think the LR2 will do a good job to compete with the lexus RX and Acura RDX. I wonder if the Freelanders are reliable. All I know is that they weren't that nice of cars. We had them as loaner/curtesty cars a couple times and my mom referred to them as "the mistake". The LR2 interior looks well improved over the freelander and the exterior looks a lot better.

To classof2011. First sit in the drivers seat so you know what its like to drive a land rover- amazing visibility everywhere. the side windows go like almost down to like your legs almost. The windshield is flat with very little angle and the hood slopes down quickly. Its quite empowering. Then sit in the passenger seat, its the same deal. The second row isn't too interesting, but its a tad higher than the driver & passenger seating so you can kinda see over them and again there are really big side windows. The third row is where its cool, there is enough foot room and a foot well to make it comfortable for me (5'11"), its higher than the 1st and 2nd rows so you can still see out the windshield, you have huge windows on the side and because of the stepped roof line you get plenty of head room. What ties all this openess together though are the sunroof and the 2 other sunroofs (they don't open unfortunately) for the 2nd and 3rd row. Its really cool.
