1) I saw an LR2 at the dealer today there was one on display out front. I didn't go up close to it, but reliability aside I think it could be a good contender against the Lexus RX and Acura RDX.

Nice looking..

But..

I don't think it holds a candle to either of them. I was there when they unveiled it for the US market at NAIAS. I like the exterior much more than the Japanese contenders, but the interior screamed more budget than anything else, and the materials didn't feel or look as nice as the Lexas or Acura.

It is a great effort though, and nice to see Land Rover in this market .

Personally, I find the LR3 & LR2 a little more appropriate for 'compensators' than off-roaders.

I've had a 1994 D90 (posted in this thread a few years ago, I think), 1994 Disco (still have), a 1998 50th Anniv. Range Rover, and a 1969 IIa 88" Bugeye. Anyone who thinks an LR3 is the pinnacle of off-road adventure experience clearly does not do real off-roading. An unmodified D90 is pretty capable, but no one really goes off road, especially out west, without mods.

The Series truck was mostly like driving a tractor while getting hit in the back with a shovel. It was cooler than anything else on the road, of course.

I got rid of the D90 and picked up a diesel F-350 because Land Rover doesn't make a practical farm vehicle for the US. Yes, I know you can "build" a diesel crew cab 110 or 130 and have friends who have done that, but try and fit a 4x8 sheet or 30 bales of hay in the bed of said pickup or tow 15,000 lbs - you can't.

Wow! That is an amazing fleet of vehicles. I love the P38 Rangey, the Defender, and the Series. They are such nice trucks. I'm not exactly fond of your D1's brown color and wheels but they are a blast to drive. Styling wise, I don't think D1's looks that great (even though I have one lol)- the 1997 and 1998 LE and LSE looked a bit better with the wheel change and the different trim and body color bumper end caps on the LSE.

It's a 2006 with a turbocharger from STS turbo. Skidded off the road already once in the snow. :D

Pushrods FTW

I had a 2000 Corvette with a built LS1 putting out 590hp. I was going to procharge it, but I sold it.

I'm interested in dyno results, if you've taken it there yet.

I love goats. :D

Assuming the car is running as well as the one they put the same kit on I should be making 517 at the wheels. I might be a very lucky guy though... the wastegate reference fell off and I thought my vacuum gauge broke. It's running a bit rich now that things are back together.. so it's possible that I've been making more boost than I thought! I'll know later today when I get on it some more, though.

My brother just got an 89 Corolla in near perfect condition for $600. It's spotless on the inside too, the prevoous owner must have taken great care of it. I drove it around the block a few times and it runs great. Now only if he had money for insurance and registartion.

It's Armada Gold - I've only seen one or two others of the same in the states. It has the advantage of matching every color of mud known to man.:D

In all of my searchings of D1's I don't think I even have seen an Armada Gold. I guess thats good, you never have to get a carwash :p.

The first disco I was looking at was Avalon Blue. I really liked that color. I am not a huge fan of the White Gold color of my disco, but I suppose its better than others. My friend calls the color "A shade somewhere between gold and silver". White gold on the DII looks different- its more tan or gold. Mine is more of a true white gold.

I'm going through this. My friend got his MS degree last month and started with my company this week. He has no car, license, or anything. Trying to get him licensed here in UT by the end of the month. (We're both from California.) Since he hasn't been driving he saved his meager wages from his college job for years, so he has enough to get a decent car though. :)

If I didn't have any support of my parents, there would be no way I could buy a car, pay for gas, and pay for insurance if I worked all summer at a typical teen job. Even with a car for free there is no way I could afford it even with no other expenses. My insurance must be crazy- 16 year old BOY in CT driving a SUV with very HIGH REPAIR COSTS.

It is good that you appreciate what your parents do for you. Many people (some on here) don't!.

That being said, I fail to understand parents that buy cars like yours, then complain about the cost of keeping their kid on the road (this is not directed at you or your family, just some people I know).

If you are going to buy a car for your kid and want it to be less of a dent in your pocket book, don't buy them a truck, SUV, or anything that would be classified as a "premium brand" (including cars). That is why there are cars like Cavaliers, Sentras, Accents, and Escorts.

Well my parents have owned 3 LR's so they kinda know what they are in terms of reliability. I know this isn't directed towards me or my family, but my parents don't seem to care about the cost of my insurance, other than that my sister costs much less to insure because she is a girl.

That's an awesome car! If I lived closed to you, I'd deffinately consider buying that. For me, the smaller, older, higher gas mileage, the better...... oh, and reliable too. :D

I actaully don't have my licene either. Here you have to take dirvers ed if you're under 18, but I've just been putting it off for so long. I turn 18 in July, so I'll just get my license then. I'm hoping to maybe go on a road trip this summer with my brother in his Corolla... we'll see how that turns out. ;)

I just bought this for Mr. Rover today

You could pay for it, but it would be tight. I'm 17 and I pay insurance, gas, maintenance, etc. The only cost that my mom paid for was the purchase of the car and the registration fees. The rest is all me. I manage to get by, even with an insurance bill of about $150 a month.

By the way, that FM transmitter is super overpriced. I got my iPod interface (direct cable to the CD changer port) for less than that, and I considered even that to be expensive just to listen to my iPod in the car.

I looked into other options but the FM transmitter is really the only viable option. The tape adapter is rejected by the head unit, there is no aux input on the head unit or on the back of it, and there is no CD changer port interface connector for the discovery 1's (1999-1998/9 models, only for discovery II's 1999-2004). If I wanted to spend some time and risk screwing something up, I could splice the audio wires from the CD changer and wire it up to my ipod.

I don't have a job, so my monthly income is not really existent. During school my parents would rather have me focus on academics and sports than making minimum wage.

Reminds me a bit of the Range Stormer concept.
Range_Stormer_rear.jpg

Which then turned into the RR Sport.
A Classic Clarkson quote about that car:
"You can't have this car with a diesel engine. It'd be like saying, 'Well, I won't go to Stringfellows tonight, I'll get my mum to give me a lap dance, she's a woman!' Yeah, but..."

Ok I have a question for you rover guys here...

How hard should it be to engage to the CDL? I have a dirt road to drive on, and I go like 5mph and try to engage it, but it just will not engage. I feel like its about to shift over, but it just won't budge past a certain point. Am I doing something wrong?? Do you have to pull back and then push over to the left or do I need to push down on the lever.

??

The enormous doors have always bothered me. Michael Scott (from The Office) has one.

Yeah, my mom owns a '06 Sebring Conv. Touring... Silver with a black top.

The doors do drive me insane, and I don't like the general feel of the car... Our '99 Breeze is more fun to drive.

I like to drive our black '07 Tundra Crewmax Limited 5.7L. =]

I absolutely despise our '05 Trailblazer LT EXT. Ugh.

Here's my car :)

06 custom butted Fuji track frame, vintage Campagnolo Record hubs laced to Ambrosio Mr. Martin rims with DT spokes, Campagnolo Record headset, 3ttt pista bars and stem, stock crankset will be the next upgrade.
