FWD and performance does not compute. Warning warning overload. :) The Camry with the 268 HP 3.5 V6 does 0-60 in an impressive 5.8 seconds( C&D) and the Aura XR with the 252 HP 3.6 V6 does 0-60 in 5.9 seconds(R&T). Which probably can be contributed to the 251 lb of torque at 3200 RPM compared to the 248 lb of torque at 4700 RPM of the Camry's 3.5 V6. That is the Aura's only advantage over the Camry is the torque. Anyway...... as I said FWD and performance does not go together. RWD or AWD is the best for the best performance possible. If Toyota wants to be #1 and appeal to ALL buyers they need a RWD vehicle that is not a Lexus.

And a Manual car how about (speaking about lexus more so but still toyota) I will never buy a Toyota or a Lexus no matter how nice they are and every year they are getting better and better until they come out with a rear wheel drive MANUAL (you hear my Lexus IS 300); no stupid paddle shift crap. Now that I think about it I probably wouldn't get one still until they came out with a two door car as well.

Note: I am talking about a sports car, not a lexus luxry car, the hard top convertible one...

FWD and performance does not compute.

Ford Focus RS/ST, VW GTI, Alfa Romeo, Mini Cooper (especially the old ones, any little car that can beat GT cars around a track is performance to me), Vauxhall Astra VXR, I could go on.

FWD doesn't make a car instantly incapable of performing well. A properly sorted FWD car can be a fantastic drive, and even quicker than RWD in a few situations.

I have posted in this thread before, but i got out with some friends the other weekend with the cameras specifically to take pictures of the car

hope you like cos im well pleased with them :D

Holy crap dude! How does it feel to be like James Bond? :p

Sold my old car a little while ago. Didn't have any time to fix it while I was away at uni. 1976 BMW 1502

Bought myself a nice boring car. 1995 Ford Escort 1.6 Zetec.

Exactly, I've got a 1988 Peugeot 205 GTi that I use on the track. Quaife LSD, engine on DTA Engine management with Jenvey Throttle Bodies. Approx 170bhp and weighs just over 800Kgs. The handling is truely brilliant. Out of bends you can just floor the gas and take to the 8k limiter. Now that's a noise to make your spine tingle !!!

My normal road car is a Merc AMG C32. The Merc "feels" slow and unresponsive in comparision until the speeds get high. In the real world I'm sure that the Merc would just pull away, that is until any corners where the Peugeot would simply obliterate it. The lack of weight means you can brake much later and scub off speed, and equally get on the gas sooner coming out of bends. The fwd Pug can keep up with much much more powerful things given it's agility.

Simply being RWD doesn't mean that it's better handling by default !

i have a few, if you have a special request, it will have to wait as i'm in skewl.
Are you thinking of getting one?

Maybe when I'm old enough to enter into a legal contract. lol I'm only 17. :) I just think the LS 460 is seeeexy! ESPECIALLY in that RED! Yeah, if you have a few cool pics, I'd love em. :D

Not a fan of all you people with "SUVs" or whatever you call them over there. Not cool at all. It's ok if you actually go off-road, but then I guess SUV doesn't fit the name...

You'd love America. The roads are infested with them like a disease. :p A lot of them flying by at 80-85mph in the fast lane while talking on the cell phone. I don't know what the laws are now, but for awhile, you could get huge tax write offs for buying really big SUVs if you stated that 50% of the time it was used for private business. I think this is what really led to so many SUVs in america. Now it's become more of a fad. I never really understood why people actually enjoy driving them on paved roads.

from my brief time behind a range rover, i must say the view is a lot nicer up high (rather than my bumper view in my TSX). im sure if europe had cheaper gas prices, bigger and less windy roads, and modern infrastructure, suv's would thrive as well.

in japan, vans are really popular amongst the kids. they like to pimp their astro vans like west coast customs.

Hahaha Land Rovers for life!

I don't think its a valid argument to say SUV's are bad because SOME people drive 85mph on with their cell phones.

I could generalize that Honda Civics and Jettas and other small foreign cars are bad because they race on the highway.

I wasn't trying to make an argument based on that. It was just a statement that happened to be in the same paragraph. :) I'm not saying SUVs are inherently bad. If you need one for purposes that a regular car doesn't provide, then that's great. But that's not the case for 80% of them on the road in the US. Most SUVs in America aren't even built to drive off road. It's the whole "bigger is better" mentality for the most part. I think land rovers are very purposeful vehicles. A Cadillac Escalade with 24" rims is not.

I don't see what all the fuss is about SUVs. Sure they're gas guzzlers but so is a Ford Mustang with a 5.0 V8 engine. Nobody ever complains about that. And yes SUVs are big, but so is a mini-van or something like an Audi A6 Avant. What's the big deal?

Amen. I especially hate esclades. I see absolutely no beauty in them anywhere. They're obnoxious outside and cheap and plasticy inside.

Although most Land Rovers sold these days are not taken off road, in about 10-15 years ones that are still on the road probably will be.

Aa mustang is hardly hardly a functional car. You can't put anything in it. You can't tow anything. You can fit 2 people comfortably. You can't drive it in the snow (unless you want to risk getting stuck and/or your life).

I don't know... Maybe they are big, easy targets.

It's always funny how people will say that SUVs are the devil, unless you take it off road, then it's somehow tolerable. Like romping in the mud (which probably harms the environment quite a lot) while guzzling the gas is ok, but you better not take that big ol SUV on the pavement!

For the record, I do take my 4Runner out on the trails, get it good and muddy. So I guess I'm "safe".
