But, then you said that the Glossy was preferred for the colors and etc. Which is it? You praise the matte for having better color, but then choose the glossy for colors?

Colors seem are very vibrant on the matte display at almost any brightness level but on the glossy, the warmth and richness of colors are more pleasing in ideal light. Go to a store and see them for yourself.

Sorta off-topic but it looks like they went back to plastic for the headphone/line-in ports. Dunno why the rearranged them either. Used to go tallest -> shortest, now it seems more random.

They moved the DisplayPort closer to the back, since it would get in the way of the USB ports on the first version that I have. Once you've connected an external display, it's a bit of a mess and everytime you want to connect something, you make the display adapter move, which in turns applies some force to the plug, and over time, it will get loose (contacts are so tiny inside, I fear the result).

The cable on these adapters is so short that the other end sits in front of the other ports, I don't understand why they didn't make it 2 or 3 inches longer so it would end up behind the screen... Gotta love Apple.

I have the antiglare mid '09 17'' and I looked at it again after looking at these pics and noticed a few things.

-the MDP connector is positioned near the microphone port like the older 15'' unibody. I don't really see the difference (in getting-in-the-way-ness) between having it in the front or back. Actually since I use my mic less than USB or firewire, it usually has more clearance for me in that location.

-the headphone and microphone ports have the metal ring linings a la the older 15'' unibody, which is really interesting since the 17'' got 'updated' with the rest of them in June.**

NEWSFLASH
**Based on this empirical evidence, I have concluded without question(whilst wearing a white lab coat) that the REAL macbook pro is the 17''. The reason? Metal lining of the headphone ports. It is not discrete graphics or display res or expresscard slot that defines whether a Macbook pro is truly Apples Pro machine. They are obviously making the delineation with the headphone and mic ports

Am I the only one who likes the black, glossy screen more than the new matte one ?

nope.. i like it too :)

 so i got a pro...
anyway, too bad they dont add a decent soundcard on the end of the ports ;D

Well spotted.

I too am curious as to why they did that. I also wonder if the plastic rim in the headphone socket will prevent popping (where the speaker would pop, then the headphone socket would be active.. happens randomly).

The next few weeks, I really aim to sell my current MBP and get the matte version.

is watching movies any less pleasing on the matte?

It's better, unless you like looking at yourself in the screen while you watch the movie :)

Does anyone knows how the weights of anti-glare MBP compares with that of glossy MBP?

Those who swapped out the glossy display in MBP through services such as Techrestore have indicated a small reduction in weight (something like from 5.5lb to 5.2lb) due to removal of the glass sheet on the display.

If anti-glare MBP's are light, it would be a nice if unintended benefit of getting an anti-glare MBP.

BOOM ! you hit the nail on the head !
It's true that this soundcard is annoying, switching itself off every 30 seconds and turning back on with a nasty "pop" killing your headphones and delaying the actual sound emission, along with constant hiss that even my 6 year old ACER (yes, you read well, ACER) doesn't exhibit with its plastic ring audio jacks.

Metal or plastic jacks, it doesn't matter... my white iMac was better in this regard.

How can that be ? Techrestore doesn't remove the glass panel : they replace it with a matte glass panel.
The glass panel itself is 0.25 lbs or 125 grams (see missionrepair.com for that).

I like it how you people fret over more/less 125 grams... come on !

(and of course, the aluminum bezel on the matte version sure makes up for the removed glass panel)

Ok first of all I dont think there is such a thing a matte glass. If there was then when I touch my MBP's screen it should not ripple (which it does btw).

Second of all which do you think is heavier. Aluminum or glass?

Also how about some nice, clear pictures of both machines in their entirety, with the glossy screen cleaned off nicely for a good comparison?

Took these at the Apple store the other day. The difference is fairly noticeable, but I still don't mind the glossy.

And I checked, and lixelai, depending on the manufacturing processes, aluminum and glass have almost the exact same density. So, neither is 'heavier.' Plus, think about the amount of glass being removed and the amount of aluminum replacing it. A reduction in weight is not implausible.

Sorry I was not very clear. The density is similar so which would be heavier? A bezel of aluminum or full screen of glass? I think that is fairly obvious. This is to "betterdays" btw.

very nice photos. which was most appealing though to view?

Personally, I prefer the matte display. But I think it's mainly because I do most of my work in an all glass building, and I know my glossy MacBook is gonna be dreadful whenever the sun is out.

But that's basically the only time I ever really notice a difference, in direct light. Other than that, it's a toss up between the silver and black bezel.

The Matte looks SO much better. Its like a 15" MBA :D

Four days have passed and I'm committed. Through heavy daily use, it's just that much better with the matte display and the surprisingly solid battery they have packed in the new model.

Now, who wants to buy my old glassy unibody MBP? Not kidding, please buy it.
