GrumpyDad is thrilled that he got a Pixel 3XL. I got him the stand and a Ringke case and a wallet case and two different kinds of tripods so he can experiment a lot with Night Sight.

I traded in my S8+ but the post office for some reason delayed getting it to Tennessee and yesterday a delivery attempt failed. I hope they give me my trade in value because it is postmarked well a week before the agreement expires.

The funny thing is he tried to get me a Pixel 3. He was going to trade his S8+ for a white one. But they were back ordered. Lol! I’m glad it didn’t work out because I am very happy with Snowball and I didn’t want to have the thunder stolen from my gift to him. :p Plus I ended up with some amazing gifts. He worked really hard to come up with some clever ideas!

It is really scary though we keep getting the same ideas year after year. We have for two other Christmases gotten the same idea.

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate it and Seasons Greetings to everyone!

Lol, I found the Porgs again on the Playstore. :D I was worried they were gone for good. GrumpyDad continues to enjoy his new present. I also had gotten him a HomePod which he likes, but it’s the Pixel that is stealing the show.

Google also finally signed for receiving my S8+. They’d offered me only $230 for it and I hope they stick to that amount. My husband said he got offered more for his, but that was closer to Christmas.

He is really impressed by how much information and detail the Pixel camera can pull in from a scene. More so than even his XS Max can. They’re both such good cameras though, so it’s too close to be worth doing constant comparisons. Though of course that is part of the fun!

He actually thinks he likes the Pixel 3XL display better than the one on his XS Max. Yeah I do think it looks crisper, too. I have the flu yet another Christmas so I have not tried to see if it sets off my migraines.

The notch is so funky looking! It does help distinguish it from the XS Max but yeah...it’s goofy. It’s something that’s easy to look past when you consider I got this incredibly capable flagship phone for $200 off. Not even counting the trade in discount. It’s so far below what he paid for the Max it’s a bit stunning to think about.

It is a bit alarming where the smart phone prices have gotten to. My husband said he definitely will not part with $1800 for an s10 if that’s really what they end up charging for it.

We shall see. At any rate I’m grateful for the discount. I was under a tight budget for this year’s shopping.

My Pixel 3 XL might be my favorite Android phone ever. I'm not talking about best/fastest/most features etc. but favorite. Up until this phone the Nexus 4 was my favorite Android phone. It was cheap, slow, and had a crappy camera, but man that phone made me love Android. I am almost tempted to try and find a functioning one just to save for nostalgic purposes. It was ahead of its time with it's glass back. Just loved it!

The 3 XL is just marvelous. I used the camera a lot over the holidays and it is ever bit as good as people say it is. I'm using some $10 Amazon clear, soft TPU type case because the fabric is slippery and it also made my skin crawl. I know it sounds weird but touching it with my always dry hands (even though I moisturize) was like nails on a chalkboard for me. I'm sure there's a word for it but it made the hairs on my arms stand up every time I touched the thing.

On another front, my wife bought me an iPhone Xs for Christmas. She knows what a tech geek I am and she knew I got the 3 XL. But she also heard me mention a few times how much I missed my Apple Watch and at times, my iPhone. So she said she got it for me so I can have 2 nice phones. She won't let me sell one, even if I wanted to. I know best, so I will be keeping both for a decent amount of time at least. The Xs is really nice too. It really is nice to have one gigantic phone (3 XL) and one more pocket-able phone (Xs).

Now I'm torn on which phone to use everyday! I'm almost tempted to carry both and just use hotspot on one. That's how much of a geek I am.

Edit: Here's a 3 XL shot of my cat standing on her tail.

Someone said about the Pixel 3 XL notch that it's not a notch but a bucket, and I'm somewhat inclined to agree :D

But yeah, the pricing makes it easy to ignore such issues. I got my Pixel 3 from a similar 200€ off deal on Black Friday and when looking at the kind of a phone I'm getting for that price, it's hard to justify paying 1000€+ for the latest Apple/Samsung flagships. I could afford them if I wanted to, but they feel like such crazy prices that I may not want to especially when there are deals for phones such as the Pixel and also OnePlus seems to be catching up with the camera for half the price.

Whoa what kind of cat is that? Did you have to go into the jungle to catch her? She’s a beauty.

Edit: Google is my friend. Bengal?

Can't be bothered to find/start an appropriate thread but this is about my Pixel 2 and Google Photos.

Ordered a Photo Book (as a Xmas present) directly on my phone through Google Photos, and almost every shot was taken on my Pixel 2 XL. The outcome is really nice - great quality paper, the photos truly shine through (only a couple that maybe I shouldn't have included).

Main pro: only took my 23 minutes from START to FINISH, including selecting photos, deleting them and ordering/paying. It was so quick. What a benefit.

Main con: damn, it was expensive comparatively. It cost over £40 and it's not a huge photobook (with 82 pages), and this was the paperback one as the hardback was almost £20 more expensive. It basically works out at £0.50 per page, and that might not sound much but it racks up very quickly.

So, in summary - Pixel camera is obviously amazing but also backs it up when printed, Google Photos photobook is very good and super convenient - but you definitely pay a premium for that convenience factor.

My sister just had her first baby and I'm planning on making her a photo book once all her siblings and siblings-in-laws have held the baby

Glad to hear they are good

The photo books are really nice. I order one to recap each year and have been very happy. I had one come a little bent and they printed a new one quickly and at no charge. They make great gifts too as you plan to do.

Does anybody have any suggestions for cutting down on glare with the Pixel 3? The glare on the screen seems to bother me.

I’ve also considered using the night light mode 24/7 as this seems to bother my eyes less but I’m not sure if this would cause burn in faster?

So after a couple of hours trying to get adb to work I finally managed to hide the navigation bar(frees up a bit of screen real estate).

I'm am now running the Fluid Navigation Gestures from the app store. So far so good, the swipes are very customisable and thus far have been reliable.

They make a great phone fantastic.

Are any cats low maintenance? ;)

Cats aren't too high maintenance in general but I'm throwing 20lbs of whole chicken (organs and bones included) through a commercial grade food grinder once a month lol .It gets a bit ugly . Plus she has a bit more energy than your average cat (we have a giant cat wheel she runs on) for miles per day.

I never thought of whole chicken, my breeder said to feed whole chicken legs. I was giving her 2 a day.
These cats are highly energetic; mine fetches a ball just like a dog.

Since I’m grinding the whole chicken goes in. We did thighs for awhile and wings but the whole chicken seems to be working too.

I'm willing to bet a one year old field Lab is more of a handful than any cat, lol! He's like a baby, I only get some peace and quiet when we are out for a drive. (Taken with the 3 XL)
