Unfortunately almost every phone today has some sort of notch, and no headphone jack. Even Samsung is adding a notch and removing the jack on thier phones this year.

I hate this trend. That being said, I wouldn’t let it stop me e from buying a phone these days. I have serious Pixel 3 envy. I did not pay much attention to my husband’s Huawei p30 but I can’t keep away from the 3XL. (Goodness it was difficult to phrase that in a way that didn’t sound dirty. ;) )

I’m going to see if they offer any more deals close to Mother’s Day if my husband is still enjoying his 3XL as a daily driver. I’m to the point I am ready to switch to an Android as my daily driver but I need a big display for that.

Are the Pixel 3/3 XL issues over-exaggerated at r/GooglePixel? I’ve never read so many constant complaints/problems about one phone. It’s night and day in comparison to other phone subreddits.

My wife & I have had ours for about 6 weeks now, without any issues or complaints. (Both of us coming from several years of iPhones)

Not sure whats not to like about them.

Getting used to not having a home button and fingerprint sensor in the same place has been a little clumbsy for me to master, but that's been the only hurdle so far

The problem comes from not everyone running into the problems. I wouldn’t say they’re being exaggerated, just that they’re not consistent. It doesn’t help that Google raised the prices while introducing these problems. Not as many people would be complaining if they didn’t jack up the prices.

My husband hasn’t run across anything yet. I think probably at some point he will have to clear the camera app cache because that seems to be something most people need to do to keep the camera running fast.

The price IS ridiculous but they had run deals during the holidays that brought it down to a more reasonable price. I’m keeping an eye out for another deal.

I’m keenly interested in the upcoming Samsung S10, but I’ve switched my focus from going early adopter to trying to find deals and wait for bug reveals and bug fixes, as well as make sure all the colors and varieties that are going to be released get released.

I will dearly miss buying on the bleeding edge, but I got a little bit burned preordering my Xr. Had I waited I could have gotten $100 more on my 8 Plus trade in.

Does anyone else have this issue on their 3XL. When clicking on a photo in the messaging app, does the notch area start off black and then kind of flash/pop and turn white? Hard to explain, but if it happens on yours, you would notice. That is the only bug I have noticed, everything else is great. I notice it a lot though, because I get a lot of pictures via text.

First of all, let me start by saying I am one of those people that always looks for a reason to go back to Android. in my opinion, I always thought the iPhone 8 was the best balance of size and performance of any phone in the market. however, I keep trying other Android phones and hopefully will change my mind. I have had the Samsung Galaxy s9, OnePlus 6T, and now I am on the pixel 3. I'm experiencing the same types of issues that I always get disappointed with when I move back to Android. I'm going to ride the pixel 3 out for a while and hopefully it'll change my mind. Some of my frustrations are the ability for notifications to work with words with Friends on a consistent basis, my bank using a touch ID for login purposes, and other little annoyances. I wish developers in the Android system would put more time and effort into developing apps as they do for iOS. I really love the fact that Android will let you customize and make your phone the way you want. IPhones tend to get boring after awhile but they always seem to work when you want them. Like I said, I will ride this out for a while and hopefully not go back to iPhone anytime soon.

Anyone having lag and stutters and hiccups with the stock Google Messages text app ? My Pixel 3 XL has been smooth as butter all the time I have owned it, but just recently, last several days, the Messages app has sever stutter and pauses while sending a text or pressing back button to go to the text thread.

Might have to uninstall and go to Textra.

That's likely an app update that caused it .I'm sure it'll be fixed soon enough.

The January update hasn't been great for me. I've been having a lot of hangups and lag when unlocking my 3 XL since the update. I've even had times when the fingerprint sensor takes 4 or 5 seconds to register.

I've just taken the plunge on a new Pixel 3 from Google Store. £100 off and £75 credit added to my account after 4-6 weeks which means a free wireless charger which I would have ordered anyway, making the phone in theory only cost £564... Bargain!
As an update, spent the day with the phone and I'm really, genuinely impressed with it and especially Android Pie. Much more iOS like with the gestures as I'm coming from the iPhone X. Looking forward to seeing how things are going forward...

Does anybody have any advice on the best way to send a picture from your Google photos within the text messaging app? I get a blank gallery picture but then I have to go through a file system to find the pictures I want in my Google photo file.

I’m not sure I am understanding. I’m currently using my husband’s Pixel 3 and sent a photo to my Xr. I just clicked on the camera icon to the left of the text entry window. I see the blank gallery icon but also see some thumb nails of the photos he took. I don’t see a file system just thumbnails.

I have run off with my husband’s Pixel 3XL and I did a video shootout between my Xr and the 3XL. I think the audio is better on the 3XL. It also was able to get enough light to take video in my dark laundry room and my Xr could not. I have such serious 3XL envy. My husband says they might offer another deal when the Samsung S10’s are released and I can get one then.

Okay I have to go hide away with the Pixel 3XL now. Mwahaha he’s not getting it back yet! I want to try and read a Kindle story on it.

I want to select pictures from my Google photos that are not in my gallery.

I’m testing by passing texts between my husband’s Pixel 3XL and my XR. Photos take a little bit to travel but not too bad. No I can’t see any issues and my husband hasn’t complained of any either. He’s been doing a lot of texts with his sister and would have noticed. Sorry you’re having problems.

I thought they were the same thing. On Samsung my gallery is different from my Google photos. I have to upload them from my phone to Google photos. It’s definitely separate. I never realized it was separate on the Pixels. I’ve always been a bit fuzzy on how that worked.

Samsung's 2019 phones will have the "punch hole" look, a tiny circle in one corner for the front facing camera.

And pretty sure they are also removing the headphone jack.

they are making a notched version of their phone, but more of a mid-ranged device

https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/afuzkp/galaxy_m_design_features_and_launch_date/

But for their flagships, I still consider the hole punch a notch... it still disrupts the display the same way a notch does. Having that little bit of screen above the hole doesn't allow you to gain more "screen real estate". IMHO
