I don't think the Pixel is a bad phone by any means. Especially after the price drop it lines up much more with the quality of the device. Asking $1000 for the XL was just too much given the hardware limitations.

IMO the s10 just seems like you get a lot more for the same price. But I guess it all depends on what your priorities are in a phone. If you must have the newest version of Android or the camera is your most important feature than the Pixel is still the only real choice. Personally I handle a lot of emails, web browsing, videos, and music on my phone with the camera being secondary. Having a better display and not constantly reloading apps is more important to me.

Samsung phones have always been more feature packed than other Android phones. The S10 has a good camera but overexposes unacceptably in some photos. I have seen this in numerous camera comparisons.

Being used to a Pixel that takes perfect photos in almost all scenarios I can't go back to a phone that requires me to post-process photos in order to make them look right. :D

If the S10 had the Pixel's image processing engine/software then it would be THE perfect phone.

That's understandable. Again, it's all about priorities. While having a good camera is important to me, it's not my highest priority in a phone. But if it is, the Pixel is still the best phone to have. My only gripe with the Pixel camera is how slow it is to open sometimes. The March update made it a lot better but it's still not great .

If camera performance isn't a top priority then most phones are more than good enough while the S10 and iPhone are better at video.

I actually think my Xr beats my Pixel 3XL quite often in tricky lighting situations. One frustration for me with my Pixel camera is that it often produces really dark shadows and shows too much contrast between light and dark areas in a challenging scene. iPhone lightens up and brings out the details in shadows.

What I have not had time to determine yet is if the details that seem lost in the shadows are better looking in manual editing with software. Straight out of the camera, my iPhone and my S9+ photos have actually beaten my Pixel 3XL photos in some scenarios.

I think the cameras among these industry leaders are close enough, unless you want to take photos of a parking lot in the dark (lol, apparently a popular test shot subject) that you can pick your favorite phone on other measures beside the camera and not come away with a poor experience.

But if you do need the best camera for those funny photos of trash pandas breaking into your bins at night, you can’t beat a Huawei night mode, from what I’ve seen. Next would be the Pixel.

Just wondering...does the auto brightness work terribly for everyone else on the P3XL or is it just mine? It constantly changes even when the lighting conditions haven't.

Auto brightness on my 3 XL is terrible, it changes right before my eyes without even moving.

Interesting, I've found the opposite with the Pixel 3 XL and my XS Max (and my old X as well). If the room is moderately dim, not even a lot dim but just a little, the iPhone produces horrible graininess. The pictures don't look terrible, but if you pinch zoom just a bit you can see grain all over the place. I used the 3xl at my daughters birthday this weekend and was impressed with the pictures. IMO Apple really needs to improve their cameras, in particular the function in less than perfect lighting.

And not only that, it’s not fluid when it changes, right? Like you can almost see it step down?

Yep almost like flicking a light switch, I almost expect to hear clicking.

I just ordered a Pixel 3 XL. Send help. This (for the first time ever) will be an addition to my device setup and not a switch from iOS. My plan is to use my Apple Watch and hold on to my XR longterm, and just swap between the two devices (XR/Pixel) as I feel like it. I've tried to do an entire ecosystem swap too many times in the past and it just hasn't worked. Mainly because of the Apple Watch, but I'll still be able to use that to track fitness and such. I needed that camera and its night sight feature. And there are tons of things I enjoy about Android that are not offered with iOS currently.

Sounds like we're paddling in the same boat. ;)

That makes 3 of us. Do y'all use iMessage and turn off when swapping or just leave iMessage off the whole time?

I actually don't swap. I have a Mint sim in my Pixel 3 XL ($20 for 3 months of service and 8GB of data/month) that I use for just about everything...except calls and messages. My main number is still in my iPhone and my Apple Watch is on that same plan so I can spend much of the day without my iPhone yet still get messages and calls on my Watch.

Eventually, I'm going to disconnect from iMessage, move my main TMobile sim into my Pixel, and just have my Apple Watch paired to an iPhone that may just sit on WiFi at my home. This way I can still sync music, podcasts, audiobooks to my Apple Watch and continue to fitness track. I'm on WiFi at work so I'll still get notifications on the Watch as well .

I'll turn it off. I reckon I'll also need to disable cellular on my Watch for the times when I'm using the Pixel...I'd think. That's fine though because I very rarely use it anyhow.
[doublepost=1552417186][/doublepost]I'm also going to get very focused on using cross-platform apps, that way I have everything easily accessible between my Pixel, iPhone and iPad. It just makes much more sense to not chain myself to the shackles of a particular ecosystem. Rather I just use the best set of devices for the particular platform and category then try to commit to one ecosystem or the other. That's the healthiest thing moving forward for me being the tech nerd/enthusiast that I am.

I'm back on my Pixel after 4 days with the S10+, just returned it. The phone can't play audio over bluetooth using LDAC codec set to 990kbps. It also doesn't support AptX HD for some ridiculous reason only Samsung knows. This combined with my pink hue (at only a slight angle) issue, slow FPS, and overall multiple steps needed to get to simple functions / settings in the phone compared to Pixel or iPhone, caused me to throw in the towel. Not at all worth its price tag. Apple can *barely* get away with charging $1000 due to the superior overall product and stellar customer service. But not Samsung. That phone or any Android had better be close to perfect if they want $1000 out of me.

I'll probably buy the upcoming OP7 considering it'll likely have no notch, hole punch, or otherwise, to use alongside the Pixel. And will run nice and quick. And cost half the price of the S10+.

Wanted a Pixel 3 to mess around with as I decide what to get in the fall. I missed the Target deal and some deals on here so not sure its worth it at the moment to have the Pixel and XS Max.

I will wait for more deals I guess.

Was considering the S10+ but after a couple days of FOMO, Pixel is definitely more in line with my annual dabble into Android needs.

I did my best to get you a Pixel 3, lol. As consultation, here's a pic from a 3XL of the newest addition to the family! :)
