I don't think the Pixel is a bad phone by any means. Especially after the price drop it lines up much more with the quality of the device. Asking $1000 for the XL was just too much given the hardware limitations.
IMO the s10 just seems like you get a lot more for the same price. But I guess it all depends on what your priorities are in a phone. If you must have the newest version of Android or the camera is your most important feature than the Pixel is still the only real choice. Personally I handle a lot of emails, web browsing, videos, and music on my phone with the camera being secondary. Having a better display and not constantly reloading apps is more important to me.
Samsung phones have always been more feature packed than other Android phones. The S10 has a good camera but overexposes unacceptably in some photos. I have seen this in numerous camera comparisons.
Being used to a Pixel that takes perfect photos in almost all scenarios I can't go back to a phone that requires me to post-process photos in order to make them look right.
If the S10 had the Pixel's image processing engine/software then it would be THE perfect phone.
That's understandable. Again, it's all about priorities. While having a good camera is important to me, it's not my highest priority in a phone. But if it is, the Pixel is still the best phone to have. My only gripe with the Pixel camera is how slow it is to open sometimes. The March update made it a lot better but it's still not great .
For the first year, you're on the money.
You don't truly regret a Samsung device until I/O and then October when the next Android version launches. Other than that, you're fine.
Just wondering...does the auto brightness work terribly for everyone else on the P3XL or is it just mine? It constantly changes even when the lighting conditions haven't.
And not only that, it’s not fluid when it changes, right? Like you can almost see it step down?Auto brightness on my 3 XL is terrible, it changes right before my eyes without even moving.
I actually think my Xr beats my Pixel 3XL quite often in tricky lighting situations. One frustration for me with my Pixel camera is that it often produces really dark shadows and shows too much contrast between light and dark areas in a challenging scene. iPhone lightens up and brings out the details in shadows.
What I have not had time to determine yet is if the details that seem lost in the shadows are better looking in manual editing with software. Straight out of the camera, my iPhone and my S9+ photos have actually beaten my Pixel 3XL photos in some scenarios.
I think the cameras among these industry leaders are close enough, unless you want to take photos of a parking lot in the dark (lol, apparently a popular test shot subject) that you can pick your favorite phone on other measures beside the camera and not come away with a poor experience.
But if you do need the best camera for those funny photos of trash pandas breaking into your bins at night, you can’t beat a Huawei night mode, from what I’ve seen. Next would be the Pixel.
And not only that, it’s not fluid when it changes, right? Like you can almost see it step down?
The first two generations of Pixel were a lot worse. Nexus phones were even worse. 3XL isn't terrible IMHO.Auto brightness on my 3 XL is terrible, it changes right before my eyes without even moving.

Anyone going to test out Android Q in the early stages?

Looks like the beta program might open tomorrow. Thats what they have been saying over on the XDA forums.Yeah I think I might sign up one of my devices up for Q, probably the 3 XL
I just ordered a Pixel 3 XL. Send help. This (for the first time ever) will be an addition to my device setup and not a switch from iOS. My plan is to use my Apple Watch and hold on to my XR longterm, and just swap between the two devices (XR/Pixel) as I feel like it. I've tried to do an entire ecosystem swap too many times in the past and it just hasn't worked. Mainly because of the Apple Watch, but I'll still be able to use that to track fitness and such. I needed that camera and its night sight feature. And there are tons of things I enjoy about Android that are not offered with iOS currently.
Sounds like we're paddling in the same boat.
That makes 3 of us. Do y'all use iMessage and turn off when swapping or just leave iMessage off the whole time?

Wanted a Pixel 3 to mess around with as I decide what to get in the fall. I missed the Target deal and some deals on here so not sure its worth it at the moment to have the Pixel and XS Max.
I will wait for more deals I guess.
Was considering the S10+ but after a couple days of FOMO, Pixel is definitely more in line with my annual dabble into Android needs.
