Well, I think I may have solved my browser woes. After reading about Brave in today's article on the Verge, it sounded like it meets most, if not all of my browser needs so I figured I'd give it a go. It's available for Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS (though this is the least attractive version, will explain...) and since it's built on Chromium, it is compatible with Chrome extensions (yay for 1Password). It has its own built in content blocking, can sync across devices/platforms (except for iOS, thus why it's not yet ideal for iPhone and iPad), and works with Android's own native api for password autofill. So on my Pixel, I'm getting integration with 1Password, bookmark syncing, content blocking AND synchronization with most of my other devices.

And not that it matters particularly for me, but it's one less source of data input for Google since I'm not using Chrome everywhere.

Just figured I'd share in case anyone else in looking for a similar experience.

Just sharing a quick update about Brave. They just rolled out an update with significant changes to their interface that really improve the user experience, IMO. They've adopted a bottom placed nav bar, a la Safari or the Samsung browser that makes one handed use so much better. Now easily my favorite Android web browser.

Wow, that's definitely a browser to consider. I've been happy with my Samsung browser but I'd be willing to try this since it works with 1Password and I do wonder if I could get an even smoother browser experience than I have now.

I'm going to give Brave a whirl myself. Just downloaded it in fact. Right now, Samsung Internet is my browser of choice, but I do like the streamlined UI of Brave. Nav bar at the bottom makes all the difference .

Yeah, Brave ticks the necessary boxes for me:
  1. Content blocking
  2. 3rd party password manager integration
  3. Cross device syncing
  4. Good one handed navigation
This was historically a big obstacle for me so finding Brave has made switching to Android a much better experience.

Is there a way to swipe back to the previous page like in iOS? Or another gesture to go back?

Welp, going to hold off on Q for the time being on my XL 3 until the dev can get magisk working on it.

I'm starting to think (actually have been for a while) root is going to go away.

Best thing I've done lately on my 3 XL, was do a full system wipe reset, and fresh install on the March update. Phone smooth and fast as ever.

For me this is still the best Android phone to date. No other phone I'd take over this right now.

The camera is to good to give up. And stock vanilla smoothness.

Nice one, thanks for sharing! I'm loving that bottom nav bar and also the tab switcher is very nice, much cleaner than on Samsung browser. No dark mode though which unfortunately I can't live without, but if they add that then this'll become my go to Android browser for sure.

Sadly no, still must use the back button.
I'm using the universal swipe up from bottom sides to go back on my 6T, doesn't that work on all Android P phones? Feels just as smooth as iOS' swipe back once you get used to it.

I miss that from safari. I'm trying the browser now and it works great. Very smooth.

Agree. Safari is still my favorite but Brave is finally allowing me to move on with feeling I'm making big compromises.

I believe that's an Oxygen OS feature. If it's an option in 'stock' Android, I missed it.

Ah dang sorry, didn't know that. That's 1 up for the 6T then I guess :) (I'm in evaluating mode atm)

Safari is still my fave too though. Its reader mode with black background is one of the hardest things for me to give up. I even made a shortcut to open articles from other apps directly in Safari reader mode. It's just so much more neat and reliable than anything I've found on Android. For example the blue hue that Samsung browser uses for links and highlights in its dark mode makes that portion of the text almost completely unreadable.

Lol fortunately I haven't had to do that. Yeah it's smooth. It's working nicely with my Galaxy Active Watch, which I find very comfortable despite it looking chunky. In fact I have been sleeping with it on to do sleep tracking. I even sometimes forget I'm wearing it. It really is thick so I don't know how Samsung managed that bit of magic .

Good to hear that about the Galaxy Watch Active as I ended up pre-ordering one :) I should get it in a week or so.

I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I do so far. I have it largely running on default settings. I find it nags me less than my Apple Watch does about my activity goals, which oddly enough has me being more active. I guess I just have a very contrarian personality or the Apple Watch just has bad timing but all the nagging to stand when I was in the middle of untangling necklace chains or sick with food poisoning just really made me less inclined to be active.

I know I can dismiss all those tap tap do this tap tap do that notifications but it is always going to be this annoying perky cheerleader personality when I consult it.

On the Samsung health app it just is more clinical and matter of fact. Oh you missed your step goal you fatass. Whatever. See you tomorrow.

Installed Q on my 3 and no problems yet. Couple of app icons not quite right but seems stable enough.

I did an extremely official test last night. Usually I leave AOD on. Last night before bed I turned it off and charged my phone to 100%. Usually overnight I drop 11-12%. Last night it dropped 2%. This is over an 8 hour period.
