What’s frustrating for me is they just don’t want to market it well enough to compete sales wise.

In UK you can only buy this on contract with EE they are missing a big trick unless EE has all the rights but that wouldn’t make sense.

It’s a shame as for me it’s the best android phone you can buy and the closest for ones who are looking at leaving Apple.

In general, the Pixel line has been plagued with poor decision making and missteps by Google.

I'm still curious to see how Android works with that deep notch. That notch looks ridiculous. What will apps do and look like with that extra-extra space in the ears?

That really is the worst notch design.
The XL is shaping up to look terrible (IMO) and I can't lie - I'm secretly just pleased that the regular 3 is looking so good.

Literally my only complaint about the Pixel 2 (design wise) was its large bezels. So if that has been addressed and they've made the device slightly larger which they look to have done, then I am all in.

Wireless charging is such a non thing for me.
I have had a lot of phone with it and just see no benefit at all over plugging it in. Especially as I chargemy phone in bed at night and like to still use it whilst it's charging (like now! Ha) but wireless prevents that.

Same with the waterproofing. I've owned that many phones over the years and not once have I ever dropped one in water. It not saying that's the same for everyone, of course not - but it's not a deal breaker for me.

Though I do agree that it should be there and there's little reason why it shouldn't be.

I'd just like it to not overheat.

It should be priced appropriately if these features are missing.

Those of us paying the same premium price and want wireless charging and waterproofing lose out. The good news is you can still use your cable to charge if the Pixel 3 comes with wireless charging. :)

But if you flip that on it's head, you may not have the wireless charging or waterproofing, but you do have (arguably) the best camera on the market, the smoothest software experience, the fastest updates and support for updates in years to come.

It's becoming pretty clear that Google favour their software enhancements and benefits over hardware options.

I know with Android One there will be other manufacturer's who can now look to offer both, but as it stands with the current crop of handsets, I'd take a Pixel 2 with that camera and software over an S9 with all of its hardware bells and whistles any day. :)

Yep, this combination is what makes the Pixel a great option. Even so, I believe Google can compete better hardware-wise especially as wireless charging and waterproofing are becoming the norms in the premium space. It's clear they want to build hardware. They should build it competitively.

Couldn't agree more.

I think most of us have said it before that it almost seems as if they're purposely holding back on features that other phones have such as the wireless charging etc.
It's a strange approach.

I do have to wonder how much better their phones would sell if they made them a bit sexier.
I like the designs of the Pixels so far, but they're no head turners.

Agreed.

To take your last point even further, there have been reports that the Pixel 2 have not sold well (no surprises here). So better design indeed can make a difference. The aforementioned hardware features can, too, especially if they're being seen in 2018 as becoming standard.

Dual-cameras is another example that could help the Pixel 3 be marketed better. In 2018, to non-techies or to unknowing people, a single camera will be seen as behind the competition. There are devices now and rumors of future devices that sport three rear-facing cameras. Google isn't considering how the Pixel 3's single camera will be perceived to the general public.

Because the Pixel 3 comes out later in the year, it's awkwardly positioned to also compete with 2019 models very shortly after. They should strategize their hardware decisions accordingly. Unfortunately, Google doesn't seem to want to.

I guess we are all different but I feel that the pixel whilst a good phone lacks a few features and I’d rather pay more to have these features. However they are getting better with each release and are definitely now contenders.

Maybe they want to release in the holiday period to maximise sales.

That's definitely the right move. I just wish Google would future proof the Pixel hardware a little more.

[doublepost=1532628193][/doublepost]Here is my hope based on the leaked Pixel 3 renders.

-If you're going to insist on front facing dual speakers, I hope they're considerably better than the ones on the Pixel 2.

-If you're finally going glass, I hope it has wireless charging. I also hope this means you can achieve IP68 dust and waterproofing.

-If you're going to insist on a single rear camera, I hope your software processing shows improvement in portrait photographs -- an area that a secondary camera would precisely help in. Also, is it too much to hope for a little more sharpness? While dynamic range is better on the Pixel 2 most of the time, the sharpness is almost always better on the S9+. The Pixel 2 camera is incredible and in my own use, I think better than the iPhone X and S9+ most of the time, but that shouldn't blind us to its shortcomings. Sharpness and more accurate portrait photos are two areas that need improving.

-If you're going to continue BS-ing us about the removal of the 3.5 mm headphone jack, at least provide a USB-C pair of earphones in the box. Make some attempt at making this device appealing and more consumer-friendly. I also hope the Pixel Buds 2 is a stark improvement from the first generation. By comparison, both Samsung's Icon X and Apple's Airbuds get far better reviews.

-If you're going to finally offer a more bezel-less experience in both devices, I hope Google makes sure the display panels are quality.

Hit these marks and the Pixel will be my daily driver again.

Still looking forward to this phone. I probably won’t get it because I can’t justify 3 phones but the pixel line is a lot more interesting than the nexus line.

I’m also interested in why other products they announce like a new pixelbook, or wear watch.

Me too. Can't wait for all the reveals.

And I'm more interested in the Pixel 3 than any other phone later this year. I think Apple is still a generation or two software-wise away from when I'm ready to rejoin the ecosystem. And I have no interest in the Note line.

Unless Google makes some disastrous decisions with the Pixel 3 and its launch, I could see myself preordering.

Still love my Pixel 2 XL. Battery still great, no signs of burn in and no other problems. When it wasn’t showing the correct battery percentage whilst charging a few months ago, it was because I was charging in airplane mode, something I always did with iPhones to speed up charging.. Realised I’ve no need with this because it charges quickly enough anyway.

Was really looking forward to the 3 XL But to me, that notch looks awful. I hated the one on the iPhone X I tried out and this looks much worse. Bezels don’t bother me, big distracting notches do.

I’ll be really disappointed if it’s as bad in person as it looks in the pics. Loved the Note 8 but the 9 doesn’t seem like much of an upgrade. Wasted far too much money buying iPhones each year when the differences were minimal. Might well be the first time I don’t buy a new phone, despite wanting a new one to play around with.

This post is me every year right before I go on a phone bender. :D:p

That ugly notch? Add that to lack of headphone jack and SD card? Skip for me.
