Why is the notch so big? Because they are still rolling with front-facing stereo speakers? I mean the iPhone X has a speaker in the front so that's not even a valid excuse, but I'm curious what exactly is going on behind the panel to warrant a notch that large.

Anyone see this? Possible wireless charging o_O if this is true can we expect the phone to skyrocket up another 100 bucks?

If the OnePlus 6T comes out with wireless charging at a significantly lower price than the Pixel 3, it should really challenge people's decision to go for the Pixel.

Also, the OnePlus 6 is how to do a notch right on Android. The Pixel 3 XL design is embarrassingly bad. The combination of a deep notch and the insistency on front firing speakers have given us one of the ugliest modern smartphones to date. Leave it to Google.

Not a big fan of that iPhone X copycat notch. Why not copy Android's father way, on the Essential PH-1, I actually like that notch, very minimal and seems more Android like. Let Apple do there thing, don't make your phone looking exactly the same with the notch.

And the Jay Leno chin, I thought point of a notch was near bezeless screens, no need for big bottom ?

But whatever, it's running stock Android and directly supported by Google, so it's the best and only Android phone to buy, if you care about lag free smooth UI, timely updates, no BS bloatware, and great camera.

The OnePlus is slowly encroaching on these features.

Google could and should compete better. They should have positioned the Pixel line as the consumer-friendly version to the iPhone, with a camera and AI that actually beats the iPhone. Google should have much better designs, keep consumer-friendly features like the headphone jack, and offer good features for the value. That doesn't mean price them cheap. They can still be priced premium but with premium features like full waterproofing and wireless charging.

This is how the Pixel line should be -- a true alternative to the iPhone. I'm positive their branding and sales would have been far better if they did this. They could, too.

Instead, we have the Pixel 3 XL:

The notch is to push the screen up to the top. It has nothing to do with the chin. The chin is more because some companies fold the screen under itself to hide the ribbon cable and others don't.

Isn't six inches of screen enough for an XL phone? How much more can the ears of a notch-ed smartphone bring to the screen? .1? .2?

Is that worth a notch? Especially if the notch disappears to black anyway during full screen mode?

Google should have either decided on a notch and no front firing speakers or front firing speakers with no notch. Not both.

Not like this. Not like this.

The notch is all about being able to say the screen goes from corner to corner. That's it.

Yeah. An odd bragging right once you see the bottom chin.
Do you think there will be some kind is 3d sensors to justify the notch?

I suppose it depends on what other features the phone has. I won't say hardware because Google seem to want to do everything with software.

If that's how the 3xl looks and I got it for free I wouldn't keep it. I would of course sell it lol but imo it's 1 of if not the ugliest phone that would be on the market with a notch. I can't think of any tech that would be in it to persuade me to buy it.

Already made up my mind a month ago that the pixel 3 is going to be my upgrade anyway. Too bad google it going to be the laughing stock in the media for that 3xl design.

Is this really it then for the 3XL design? It seems rare (if at all) a phone looks totally different to the leaks. Probably wait to see how good the S10+ is.

I'm less concerned about the design of the phone and more interested in how it runs.

Having a distracting chunk of the screen missing does affect how the phone runs. We're not talking about antenna lines or an extra 1mm camera bump around the back you won't see when using it.

yeah....I think for the price smartphones are going these days...we should expect both an attractive device and smooth operation and features.

I hated using the iPhone X because of the distracting notch. So who is anybody else to me otherwise?
I guess it would bother you then.

If this really is the phone it looks very ugly and like all the other android phones apart from Samsung. I don't get why they are all using such a big notch when there is nothing in there to justify it. Essential got it right imo. I suppose we will have to wait and see what the phone actually does.

I think Samsung will end up being the only company with a flagship phone without a notch eventually.

That's not it functioning worse, that's your preference for appearance It still worked just as well as it would have without a notch.

It affects it's usability. You're trying to make out this all about aesthetics. But I guess because you're not bothered by a notch you'll just ignore that fact and miss the point everytime.
