I LOL at the rumors of people saying these are dummy phones a plant by Google to throw everybody off these were early production units and not even close to what the final beautiful product will be.

Yeah ok.

More like Google got caught with their pants down and this was completely unexpected. I'd say 99% what we're seeing here is truly the Pixel 3XL coming out in October. And there isn't some other secret phone we haven't seen that's minimal bezel and a tiny notch like the Essential phone or something, sadly I just don't think that's happening.

Hey Google how about a stock dark mode for the Pixel line? Don't copy Apple so much you don't even allow customizations like that. This is Android after all, and the big manufacturer Samsung has a ton of cool theme for their phones and even smaller guys like One Plus offer cool themes, why isn't this available on stock Android yet?

I do find it weird that you can’t, for instance, remove or move the weather/cal widget on the home screen. Seems like such an anti-Android design for what’s supposed to be the perfect example of Android.

I think my wife is set on getting the smaller Pixel 3 in October. She really really loves the Pixel cameras. I just hope they are still using Samsung for the smaller display this year. Either that, or I pray LG got their act together.

What's to be revealed? o_O:p

I really hope the leaks are misdirection or there will be an ultra pixel 7" pocket tablet

Yeah, the Pixels, I think, will take a back seat. They're really incremental updates anyway.

I think this year, the focus will be the watch, but that's just a guess.

I have everything crossed that CPW or some other retailer will do a deal like they have on at the moment with the Note 9 where you get an extra £200 on your trade in price when put towards the new phone.

Would be pretty sweet and could see me in a profit with my Pixel XL versus what I paid for it.

It's either the Pixel 3 or the new iPhone for me but I do lean towards a Pixel more as I just prefer Android.

I was hoping 3D facial recognition existed w/ the Pixel 3 and 3XL. Seems like that wouldn't happen at their launch event. However, the Pixel 3 hasn't been leaked as much as the 3XL.

I foresee the Pixel 3 regular selling out fast, and some angry customers thereafter.

[doublepost=1535468093][/doublepost]Google is rumored to implement Dark Mode across their native apps. Messages was the first and the Phone Dialer app may be next. But they don't appear to want to do it at the OS level (at least no indication of this yet) like OnePlus has done.

Why?

Maybe that's the only "surprise" saved for this years keynote. Rolled out with a software update (since it's not on the stolen Pixel's software.

TBH one of the Pixel 3 or XL will be my next phone after this 2 XL.

Wonder what screen size the Pixel 3 will be... I hear it's 5.3" but will good to know all the details.

That notch is pretty hideous so I wouldn't be averse to dropping down in size.

Such a bummer that the pixel 3 xl screen is not 6,7”. I could have lived with a notch that cuts that deep into the display panel, if the screen was close to 7”. Still, if I ever were to use an android device again I’d definitely go with a pixel.

Do we know if the stolen Pixels are on final software?

Doubt it.

There should be a September and October Pixel update in the meantime, and I'm sure Google won't have finished polishing up any "exclusive" Pixel 3 software features just yet.

The Nexus/Pixels have never had incredible hardware, so I'm not expecting anything at all from the Pixel 3. As long as they can get it more or less right, and keep the camera leaping ahead of the competition, that's enough for me to upgrade in a few months time.

Camera is a hell of a good category to lead in. I've always said, if the rest of the experience is good enough, I'll always go to where the best camera experience is. And I say "experience" because it's not just about the camera with the Pixel, it's Photos backup, too.

Having said that, unfortunately, I think that's the only true edge the Pixel line has.

Clean and fast software isn't exclusive to the Pixel line anymore. In fact, OnePlus seems to have trumped them on those fronts. And actually embarrasses the Pixel 2 in multi-tasking.

And immediate software updates aren't wholly exclusive to the Pixel line anymore either. OnePlus has promised fast updates for 2 years. The Essential phone is running Android Pie already. And generally speaking, other OEMs are improving with their own update game. Furthermore, I argue day one updates aren't even worth it since you're basically the beta tester for first round bugs. When my S8 got its software update months later, it was a clean update and everything worked just as it did before. Apps had been updated to the latest build already and everything was tip top shape. That's how the update experience should be: minimal bugs and minimal interference to an otherwise perfectly fine operating system. I don't need bugs to ruin my daily driver just to say I got updates first.

Is there really anything else besides the camera that gives the Pixel an edge? I mean, it certainly isn't in design or hardware or useful unique features.

The Pixel line could be so much more than just a leading-class camera. It could be a leading-class smartphone...

Agree with this. I’ll add one area where I wouldn’t say the Pixel has an edge per se, but rather is an area that I personally preferred—the lack of all the OEM ‘add-ons’. Yes, there are certainly any number of useful features that an OEM may add (i.e. Samsung adding split screen first) but for each of those there are features that are annoying at best or are just a P.I.T.A. (i.e. Bixby and its hardware button).

I prefer to start with the core Google functionality and add on the pieces I want via apps/launchers and not have to worry how to circumvent whatever annoyances the OEM has tacked.

Just my preference and one of the reasons I always looked at Google hardware first, even if it meant hardware compromises.

Certainly is nice when it's cleaner.

Every OEM has something. Google has Active Edge and some pre-installed apps like Play Music or Play Games that I don't use. iPhone has 3D Touch (which may disappear based on a rumor) and their own apps that I don't use.

Any device requires some setting up and tinkering to some degree. The less the better, for sure. The Pixel line is certainly one of the easier ones compared to other Android OEMs.

I really wonder how the iPhone XS' camera will fair against the Pixel 3's...

iphonexs.jpg

Honestly, I'm pretty excited about the Apple event. Regardless who takes home top camera, Apple is going to eat Google (and Samsung) this year.

I wonder if the 3 XL sales will suffer... I foresee the Pixel 3 doing better.

Shame iOS still won't let you arrange icons how you see fit. After being on Android for a year, I'd be too OCD about it. People say iMessage is a stumbling block for leaving iOS. The icons will prevent me going back. iPhone & Pixel cameras are close enough and better than the rest in my opinion.
