I have been using a 4gb ram phone for the past year and haven't had any issues. However, I would like some future proofing since I would more likely keep my next phone for 2 years.
Honestly, the only thing that makes me consider purchasing a pixel 3 is the camera. It would be great if the 6t camera is as good as pixel 3, but I know it won't be.
I feel like there must be a feature that's going to get us excited when announced...i mean could the pixel 3 be this disappointing?
I am tempted to just wait for the s10 but I don't like curved edges. So much Android manufacturers but it just seems every year all of them have a compromise. I guess its shouldn't expect all flagships to have pixel camera quality.
- OnePlus is too sketchy to me. They had the bootloader exposed with the 6 when I tried it out. Screen wasn't bad, but it didn't look too great in night mode to me. Camera performance is alright at best.
- Google has the QC issues, RAM limitations, and generic design.
- Samsung has the crappy curved edges, bloatware, inconsistent update schedule.
- HTC lost its luster and charges crazy rates for their phones.
- LG doesn't support its products well enough.
- Sony is overpriced even though they have good products.
- TCL/Blackberry make some interesting products, but again, expensive for what they're offering including the Key2 LE.
- Xiaomi doesn't have the LTE bands for T-Mobile, if not their phones would be a slamdunk choice.
- Huawei is treating its customers worse now with the bootloader locking issues. Not too thrilled with the Chinese OEMs much to begin with.
- Motorola is great, but their products are Verizon friendly primarily. I would definitely consider a Z3 if it were more readily available. But Moto G6 is definitely a top choice for me at the budget line.
- Nokia has made a strong resurgence. However, their models are not readily available. If you gave me something like the 6.1 Plus, I would go with that in all likelihood.
- Android doesn't offer something that is guaranteed updates beyond 3 years w/ strong customer service and reliability.
Hence, why I am really looking at iOS/Apple for the 3 year window of owning a smartphone. The A12 processor is rumored to even have a 10% advantage over the A11, which is miles ahead of Qualcomm. FaceID hasn't been matched as well as I was hopping from Android either.
Basically, with the 6.1" LCD iPhone, I think I am getting this: a decent camera w/ OIS, sufficient RAM to last me 3 years, FaceID biometrics, a new form factor that Apple will embrace for years to come.
My head is saying to go with the 6.1" LCD model due to economics. However, it makes more sense to get the iPhone XS because it is more future proof w/ 4gb RAM, dual cameras, OLED tech, and what not.
