Finally, a look (leak) into the regular Pixel 3. 5.5" 1080p screen. I'm very intrigued by the size. It seems like it could be similar to the regular s8/s9. but not sure yet what the dimensions are. I'm not sure I can drop down to a 5.5" screen but we shall see!

Add 3D Facial Recognition and 6gb RAM? Might have a winner there if priced appropriately.

3D face recognition surely would have leaked by now if it was happening. 4GB RAM also confirmed for both models.

Edit: Oops, I'm late to the game.

Pixel 3 leaks, at last:

[doublepost=1535667548][/doublepost]There's hope for the regular Pixel 3 to stick the landing.

The regular makes the XL look even more ridiculous. The XL is a disaster compared to this.

I thought I read the dimensions were rumored to be close to the Pixel 2.
[doublepost=1535668010][/doublepost]What's with the variable aperture for one of the front facing cameras?

No way, right?

If that's true Google really doesn't have their priorities straight.

Hmmm maybe. Just possibly maybe the smaller pixel 3 has caused my radar to perk up. The XL 3 from what I've seen is almost a no go (but a non zero chance).

Or this ultra pixel (that's been floating around for a couple years I think).

Yep LOVE IT.

As others have said, Google please make sure the hardware works, no silly mistakes this time round.

Samsung screen, please. 5.5" should be fine for me, I thought the S8 was great, the Pixel 2 XL is awesome too size wise. Dropping 0.5" can't be that much of a deal breaker...

A deal breaker is a ridiculous notch :D

I'm actually excited again. Really hope they can get the Pixel Watch right.

That looks much nicer, though I wouldn't mind a smaller notch (like the Essential phone) if it meant no top or bottom bezels.

At least version is on my radar now, but it will be a tough sell if there is no at&t model, I need my wifi calling.

If there isn’t that feature, a Pixel 3 cannot compete with the iPhone XS imo.

Seems like the S9 is the only phone that stacks up to the iPhone X form factor in terms of brand noteworthines.

I kinda don't like the idea of facial recognition in my device. It sounds intrusive and privacy defeating.

Not only that I'm worried the phone might deem my face too fugly and refuse to unlock... o_O:rolleyes:

Haven't used the iPhone X so can't really comment on that. But I'm fine with no fancy Face Unlock as long as the FPS is well-placed and fast, and Smart Unlock is OK for a few circumstances.

At least Samsung give users plenty of options. Most people I know in real life really haven't taken to Apple's implementation as it's been foisted upon them. But obviously a lot of people seem to like it.

Personally I'm still hoping under-screen FPS can go mainstream by the end of 2019, it suits how I use my phone.

After seeing the MKBHD video, anyone still considering a Pixel 3/3XL even with 4gb RAM being the standard?

Honestly, my Pixel 2 had a couple of dodgy weeks but it's back to flying through stuff again.

OnePlus 6 maybe faster and it's awesome in many ways, but I guess the camera is so important for me, I'm willing to be Google's guinea pig. But I also had a great unit with almost no issues - a lot of people didn't have that luck when receiving their Pixel 2!

I have been using a 4gb ram phone for the past year and haven't had any issues. However, I would like some future proofing since I would more likely keep my next phone for 2 years.

Honestly, the only thing that makes me consider purchasing a pixel 3 is the camera. It would be great if the 6t camera is as good as pixel 3, but I know it won't be.

I feel like there must be a feature that's going to get us excited when announced...i mean could the pixel 3 be this disappointing?

I am tempted to just wait for the s10 but I don't like curved edges. So much Android manufacturers but it just seems every year all of them have a compromise. I guess its shouldn't expect all flagships to have pixel camera quality.

Looks like my wife is happy with the Pixel 3 and will be getting it in October. Here's me crossing my fingers that QC is better this time around.

Seems like we'll have to live with it. Much like iPhone users have to live with traditionally less RAM -- last I checked, the iPhone isn't very good at multitasking either (safari tabs?). Google is being cheap. They think they're Apple.

I am only interested in face unlock if I don't have to swipe up. Until then, finger print unlock is quicker.

This is a good point. They should at least give an option to toggle swipe to unlock or auto unlock after facial recognition.

Actually, it's pretty amazing people have more or less accepted a slower unlock method in Face ID. This year's new iPhone lineup will lose Touch ID entirely.

I sure hope those two front cameras aren't just for super-selfies in the Pixel 3. That'd be a waste.

  • OnePlus is too sketchy to me. They had the bootloader exposed with the 6 when I tried it out. Screen wasn't bad, but it didn't look too great in night mode to me. Camera performance is alright at best.
  • Google has the QC issues, RAM limitations, and generic design.
  • Samsung has the crappy curved edges, bloatware, inconsistent update schedule.
  • HTC lost its luster and charges crazy rates for their phones.
  • LG doesn't support its products well enough.
  • Sony is overpriced even though they have good products.
  • TCL/Blackberry make some interesting products, but again, expensive for what they're offering including the Key2 LE.
  • Xiaomi doesn't have the LTE bands for T-Mobile, if not their phones would be a slamdunk choice.
  • Huawei is treating its customers worse now with the bootloader locking issues. Not too thrilled with the Chinese OEMs much to begin with.
  • Motorola is great, but their products are Verizon friendly primarily. I would definitely consider a Z3 if it were more readily available. But Moto G6 is definitely a top choice for me at the budget line.
  • Nokia has made a strong resurgence. However, their models are not readily available. If you gave me something like the 6.1 Plus, I would go with that in all likelihood.
  • Android doesn't offer something that is guaranteed updates beyond 3 years w/ strong customer service and reliability.

Hence, why I am really looking at iOS/Apple for the 3 year window of owning a smartphone. The A12 processor is rumored to even have a 10% advantage over the A11, which is miles ahead of Qualcomm. FaceID hasn't been matched as well as I was hopping from Android either.

Basically, with the 6.1" LCD iPhone, I think I am getting this: a decent camera w/ OIS, sufficient RAM to last me 3 years, FaceID biometrics, a new form factor that Apple will embrace for years to come.

My head is saying to go with the 6.1" LCD model due to economics. However, it makes more sense to get the iPhone XS because it is more future proof w/ 4gb RAM, dual cameras, OLED tech, and what not.

Rumors are the iPhone XS and XS+ will have 4gb RAM per unit. That would make them on par w/ the Google Pixels lol. I thought we wouldn't see that occur since many of the main flagships have 6gb+ RAM now (Galaxy Note 9, OnePlus 6, HTC U12, LG G7, etc).

Good to know. So it'll be in the ballpark of the S9 and Essential phone as well, with a 5.5" screen... Hmm. I'd love for them to trim those bezels more and get closer to a 5.7" screen but it does have front facing speakers, so that would be difficult in its current footprint.

That just further illustrates that Google is falling painfully behind on many different hardware fronts.

Man, are they being cheap.
