Just watched the latest front page tech video about the Pixel and design team being fired etc. Makes a lot of sense. I just hope they continue the Pixel line and give us an absolute beast next year.
Wait, what? I got really swamped from late afternoon onward and clearly missed some news today. On the other hand I did manage to snag an 256 Gb XS Max when we went to pick up my watch and my husband’s preorder. I do have another Max arriving Monday that I will cancel.

So far I’m really liking this phone. My impression was the exact opposite of @corriewf

Xiaomi is an interesting choice of partner. Is Google looking to cut prices even as Apple drives them into the stratosphere?

Wait, is this the same design team they bought from HTC last year?

Have no idea. According to the video, they had 2 design teams working on the Pixel 3 phones. And given the terrible feedback on the 3 XL, whichever team designed that are set to be fired.

Didn't Google buy out the HTC design team or something last year ? They have made some great phones over the years.

So who's making this Pixel 3 XL ? Is it an HTC built phone, or is LG still involved.

And the display ? LG or Samsung ?

I am really worried, if the Pixel 3 line tanks, there may not be a Pixel 4.

But the design of the 3 XL is inexcusable, like it wasn't reviewed before it got the green light or something.

And then not selling the phone on major phone carriers still. Keeping it a Verizon exclusive, isn't helping. Imagine if Samsung only sold the Note 9 at Verizon only, and everyone else had to pay upfront for it themselves, it wouldn't do to well.
[doublepost=1537626857][/doublepost]Last question. Is the Pixel 3 XL overall footprint Suze, pretty much the same as the current 2 XL size ? If that's the case, then I'm ok with it, because the screen is much larger than the 2 XL's but the overall phone size will remain the same ? I just don't want it to be a bigger phone.
[doublepost=1537627153][/doublepost]Pictures of the Pixel 3 XL make it seem like the sides of the screen go more edge to edge than the 2 XL ? Like the display on the 3 XL has smaller bezels on the sides compared to the 2 XL ?

Well, with what I said, if I had one of the new iPhones, I wouldn’t kick it out of my bed. Congrats on your purchase.

Google should just start contracting out the pixel / Nexus lines again. They are trying too hard to become apple but with less build quality. The design language of the pixel line is uninspiring to say the least.

Can you imagine an unlocked note 9 with an unlockable bootloader and close to stock Android with some Samsung software available if you wanted it?

I think that would sell like crazy

But what would the point be? It was like those editions of phones back in the day that came with stock android. If it was a viable option, manufacturers would have kept selling those editions.

It’s a depressing state of affairs...Android Pie is a better product than iOS. The iPhone is a better hardware package than the pixel. It’s tough to rationalize the iphone with it’s flaws (mentioned in previous post) at the price point vs what’s going to be a cheaper pixel 3 price point with gimped hardware.

I’ve been giving google passes for years..I think we all have. It was always, hey the nexus is contracted out so it’s cheap...oh but they started the pixel line and now they are directly in charge of the hardware...oh now they have their own the team for design.. You just keep waiting on things to get where they should be but it never happens.

Camera is not enough, if it was Nokia would still be thriving.

I gave in and got an iPhone XS Max today.
Holy lord it’s good. I’m so impressed. For someone who likes smaller phones this for some reason works for me.

I will still keep an eye out on the Pixel 3 and will be watching on the 9th intently, but will be difficult to move away now I think.

I’m trying to resist, but doubt that will hold up! What case did you go with?

I didn’t yet. So it’s naked at the moment!
My mate bought the gold one and I had a look at his today and did really like it. I went with space grey which I’m now wondering if was right or not as the gold really was lovely.

But I felt like more cases would work with the black and wallpapers too whereas I couldn’t have a colurful wallpaper with a gold and black phone, if that makes sense haha.

Gonna pick up a clear case tomorrow and then I might get a silicone case for it from . Maybe the white one as I think it’ll look pretty cool.

Only took a few photos so far as I was at a wedding this evening and it performed really well in lower light. Camera performance is a huge step up from iPhones before it from what I can see so far.

So....the YouTube channel Front Page Tech has been pretty reliable with Pixel 3 leaks. Apparently, it is confirmed there is 3 third phone that is completely bezel less that won't be called a pixel. Seems it might be made by Xiaomi (I believe it was announced that they were partnering with Xiaomi on a future phone in April)..I'll update further once his video comes out.

Edit 1: video hasn't been released yet but based on the Pixel Ultra Leaks and that Google is working with Xiaomi it might be the Mi Mix 3 design Google is using. Mi Mix 3 rumored to be released in October.

Edit 2: the 3rd phone should be released before Christmas and it will be a budget phone. Seems weird their budget phone would be the one that's bezel less? I give up, wake me up when it's October lol.
This is what happens when you follow rumour channels on YouTube... you're all over the place man!

(;))

I wouldn't want a Note with stock Android. It would be a waste of perfectly good hardware.

I hope that won't be case or else there won't be a genuine alternative to Apple and Samsung.

One Plus are fast and priced well but there are certain areas where they can't afford to match the big guys like machine learning, camera or other hardware innovation. LG and Motorola aren't good enough

I would totally welcome a GPE Note 9 ( Google Play Edition ). At least it would have smooth fluid OS, as opposed to Lagwiz ( which yes, sadly is still a thing )

Google really needs to bring OnePlus on board and then revive the Nexus line. OnePlus phones are already more fluid than the Pixel devices and with Google's camera software expertise? That thing would be a killer.

That’s why sales are important

If they are not worried about sales, I’m not either.

The fact that I have not bought an iPhone or other device as I wait for their keynote is the most I can offer them. My sympathy has its limits.

I'm glad I have you here to tell me my phone lags. Without you here, I'd never know it.
