Having pre-ordered the Pixel 3 XL after messing with it in a Verizon store (and having used the iPhone X for the last year), I honestly don't care about the notch.

@Lloydbm41, why are you switching from X to the 3 XL?
I'm not. I'll be using both. The iPhone is my primary phone and it's on T-Mobile. The Pixel 3 XL was a BOGO deal at Verizon. I got my wife one, so I figured I'd get one as well. And between Verizon and T-Mobile, I should have coverage no matter where I go now.

It's just a bridge between the old style large bezels and the new phones a year or two from now that will have full screens edge to edge.
Exactly.

It's an efficient & temporary workaround to deliver maximum screen in a minimal sized device (if done properly!) before the notch-free era begins.

Saw the Pixel 3 models today and agree with everyone else, they look much better in person.

Something about the more rounded sides of the framing of the devices make them feel and appear slimmer and sleeker, too. Both were definitely upgrades over their respective predecessors. Both screens were really nice.

And yes, that notch isn't as criminal in person, it's true. It's just unfortunate the chin is so prominent. And because of that, I realize, the Pixel 3 XL photographs terribly. It looks better in person (this was not something I could have said for the Pixel 2 XL. Seeing that in person did nothing for me). Even the chin you kind of forget about as you're using the device. If you look at it-look at it, then yeah, you see it's quite ugly.

I'm not back peddling on notches. Google could have avoided all this negative press if they didn't bother with one. Most of the "additional screen" space is just in the ears. That's why the status bar is so hideously thick on the 3 XL.

I wish I got to see the notch turned off because that's what I really wanted to test and see in person, but the display models wouldn't let you go into settings.

Ultimately, after getting some hands-on, I'm ready to order. Going to stick with the smaller one. It's going to be a tangible upgrade from the Pixel 2. The whole thing feels better with a larger and higher quality screen and more refined design overall. The way the sides curve into the glass, feels way more Samsung, way less Google/HTC (the Pixel 2 actually felt boxy in comparison). These are changes I felt immediately, going from my Pixel 2 to the Pixel 3. That's what sold me.

What color are you going with?

What color are you going with?

Most likely white, though the black did look nicer than I thought it would in person.

I'm in no rush to buy though... I'm disappointed there are no early promotions. They're really going full Apple.

I am liking the screen on this new Pixel 3...From all the reviews I have seen it looks very nice. White are white and im not seeing alot of blue shift on it.

I am leaning towards white because I’m worried about the black scratching. Undecided.

I did get an email from google about a pre order promo. You have to be opted in for marketing promo. See attached.

:D

I KNEW THIS WOULD HAPPEN!

Sure you'll love it, review please!

The Pixel is about the only non-iPhone I’ll be interested in moving forward, and that said, I had a play with the Pixel 3 XL earlier and it’s fantastic. The notch is not nearly as bad in person as it is in photos. I really just think it’s not a photogenic phone. The build quality felt very premium, not sure why some folks are saying it feels plasticky. The color combos are fun and look great with the etched back, which has a unique feel to it.

The screen though, man it’s gorgeous. They’ve done a phenomenal job improving over last years XL display, which was my main gripe. I’d put the display firmly at number two behind the XS, if only because I love TrueTone. If it wasn’t for TrueTone though, I’d see no difference between the two. It actually does look better than a Galaxy display to my eyes. They are obviously calibrating it very well. This could even be calibrated at the subpixel level, because I saw not a single sign of it being a Pentile arrangement that is typically very apparent to my eyeballs.

Now personally, I’m iPhone/Apple Watch for the next year. I’ll keep tabs on the Pixel line moving forward. I personally need Google to do a few things on the services side (RCS being king of that), and make a Pixel Watch that can really rival the Apple Watch before I can make the switch back. I may be in on a Pixel 4. We will see. For now I’m totally happy with where I’m at. Anybody doubting it though, just go hold it in your hand and I bet your opinion will change.

I don't see what that would bring to the table, to be honest. It's not like companies get to customize wearOS and they could provide a Pixel experience.

It’s more about WearOS being a mess. There’s just no consistently reliable options in that area. Each manufacturer using WearOS seems to be focused on certain areas and dropping the ball on others. Some are good at being a smart watch, and bad at being a fitness tracker. And vice versa. There just isn’t an option that is good at both in the same way the Apple Watch is. Apple is leaping out to an almost insurmountable lead in the category because of that. It’s the very thing that brought me back to the ecosystem. I think Google could get WearOS on the right path with a Pixel branded watch if it’s a well-rounded rival. And what they are doing with the synchronicity between something like the Pixel 3 and the Pixel stand (and how the two in combination open up some unique features), could open up additional potential of a Google made watch.

Nice. I’m jealous. I still have another year with my 8 Plus.

Great case. I can’t stand bulky cases and cases in general (there’s no case on my 8 Plus).

Was very tempted to get a iPhone XS Max through my carrier T-Mobile but a couple of things that phone is like $1,200, so like $350+ or so more than the 3 XL and i just can never get comfortable with iOS. I love the design and hardware of the iPhone XS Max, looks great, screen ratio is superb, no bottom chin, just a futuristic super cool looking phone. Last iPhone I had was the 7 Plus, and after a few months was itching to get back to a stock Google phone. I always like the iPhone's at first, but after the shiny newness wears off, I start getting frustrated with how iOS operates compared to stock Android. So, I rather not make a $1,200 mistake, and get something I know I already like, and is cheaper.

Maybe iOS 13 with the rumored UI revamp will do the trick ? When Apple brings out the beta next summer, at that time I may look for good deals on the XS Max, if there is indeed a new UI and iOS overhaul, which I'm thinking there's a very good chance of that.

Until then I just prefer to have the newest best stock Android phone

Ordered a 128 GB Pixel 3 XL. Google is including a Pixel Stand and 6 months Youtube Music Premium with pre-orders.
Anyways, I'll have 15 days to see whether I like the phone or not. Pretty sure it'll be fine (not too bothered about the notch business).

It sounds like iOS 13 will be more focused on re-designing the iPad OS. But hopefully I’m wrong. Even so, iOS 13 will still be designed with grandmas and grandpas in mind. I just want a change. I tried the Galaxy S8+ several months ago and I couldn’t stand it (Samsung’s skin is so ugly and the phone lagged often and it had other weird issues; also, many Android apps just aren’t as good as their iOS counterparts and that really bothered me). But I think when I upgrade next, I will give the Pixel 3/4 XL a chance. It’ll be my last-ditch effort to stay with Android. There’s about a $400 price difference between the iPhone I want (XS Max 256GB) and the 3 XL. That’s a lot of money. Is Apple worth that price difference? I don’t know. I need to buy a new MacBook, so that’s $400 that could go towards it instead.

The Max is a gorgeous phone, though. So is the 3 XL (and I like the notch, oop). I was really taken aback by its screen and its fluidity.

It'd still have the Snapdragon chip, which is the bigger problem.

They are? I saw the youtube music but I saw nothing about the pixel stand? Some carriers are including the pixel stand but I did not think google was? I went ahead and pre-ordered the smaller pixel 3 the night of the keynote. While it was $799, it was the cheapest flagship phone (that works with verizon, no oneplus for me) of 2018.... Which is a sad statement... I miss the days of $649 flagships...

I believe that poster is from Canada. Assuming it’s for our neighbors up north only.

At the 5:50 mark of this video, you see exactly why the Pixel 3 XL looks so much better than the 2 XL. The front panel is just flatter, and the edges more refined. If you keep watching, when he starts comparing the other angles of the phones, you can see the build is much sleeker and better on the 3 XL, which makes it feel better in the hand:

At the 5:30 mark in Erica Griffin's video, she disables the notch and you can see for a few moments of her using the device this way:

Such a better looking phone without the notch than the 2 XL.

Honestly, the Pixel 3s were what the Pixel 2s should have been. When comparing the two generations, you really see how ugly the Pixel 2s were. And neither have aged well at all.

Hi;
Yeah they do offer the stand as an extra on pre-order.
At least that's the case in Canada; I guess I assumed you'd get at least the same in terms of incentives from Google USA.
