I bit the bullet, and just pre ordered a white Pixel 3 XL, I didn't realize I had a $100 store credit with Google, so the 64GB came in at $855. Will give my Wife my Pixel 2 XL.

Ordered this thin case;

Here it is. The satin red version of that case and comparing it to my iPhone X in size. The case has a nice feel to it, though a bit slippery because of that satin feel. Still, it's very thin, just like I wanted. IMG-9346.JPG IMG-9347.JPG IMG-9349.JPG

The more I hear about this phone, the more I want it. I'm still iffy about 4gb of RAM because I want whatever phone I get to last at least three years without being unbearable.

I'm curious to try out the new haptic feedback. Completely forgot about it but keep reading about how good it is. Apparently it's also used well throughout the OS.

Played with the Pixel 3 and XL at a Verizon store, and it looks much better in person than it does in pictures. Really liked the look and feel of the smaller 3.

While I'm set with my iPhone XS and Note 9/S9/Essential Phone, the smaller Pixel 3 sure is tempting.

Regarding antenna strength, my Pixel 2 XL has been amazing, by far the best phone I've owned. The WiFi is solid enough, but cellular has been very good and Bluetooth has been AMAZING.

As far screen brightness, you're asking me on a dull, dreary, rainy day in the UK... I have no need for anything above 60%. Damn you ALL in your beautiful sunny climates!!

Pixel 3 max brightness is around 400 nits where as Samsung's screens can hit around 600 nits normally and over 1000 with high brightness mode if I remember correctly. iPhone X/Xs screen can manage 750-800 nits. S9's minimum brightness is 365 nits so the Pixel's screen will be more dim then the others regardless of slider behavior. That said, being someone who went from a bright Samsung screen to a 400 nits screen (s8 to essential phone), you get used to the decreased brightness to the point that you do not notice.

I’m having the same weather as you today. And a little farther south of me remnants a devastating hurricane blew through.

Last week I had tried to get all my yard work done but the sun beat down relentlessly and it was hot so I had to take breaks to stay hydrated.

Then all of a sudden, literally overnight, the weather changed to cloudy and cold. Today it’s cold and raining. I’ve had to go slow due to different ailments and injuries so I don’t think I’ll ever get finished to beat the horrible November weather we usually get.

My phone displays definitely get
a chance to be tested in all conditions! My Pixel 2 is good outdoors, but that’s a Samsung panel.

I am very interested in seeing this year’s Pixel displays. I think next year LG displays are going to be used in iPhones for the first time.

I think I will probably take a break from the forum to avoid the endless Samsung vs LG threads. The Samsung vs TSMC one was insane. I had the Samsung processor and that phone was great. My sister-in-law is using it now.

The panel difference debate is however likely to be more significant. A person may not notice or care about the little differences between the chips but they would definitely scrutinize the displays. I know I would. That’s the part of the phone that really impacts the experience a lot.

I hope LG is capable of hitting it out of the park on panel quality and longevity this time. It sounds promising so far.

With an A+ rating from display mate, I guess LG has learned a thing or two.
I just hope they’ve got the quality control well in hand and that production is uniformly that good across all the ones they’re selling to the public.

It took a long time even for Apple to get that down with LCD panels. Samsung was hit or miss in the S8 at first, but by S9 their consistency has appeared to be much improved.

I can’t wait!

And no I am not getting one! :D But it is fun to see the reviews because I am fond of my Pixel 2.

My next phone purchase is going to be the XR though.

I'm looking forward to the reviews, too.

I honestly think the Pixel 3 will reveal just how bad the Pixel 2 models were. They have aged terribly and with the Pixel 3 models finally giving us quality speakers, a quality screen, actual USB-C earphones (that were meant to be packaged with the Pixel 2), and a more refined design overall, we'll look back on the Pixel 2 as a real negative blotch -- an embarrassing design married with poor quality control.

The Pixel 3 is correcting, not all, but many of the wrongs of the Pixel 2. As I've said before, the 3 models are what the 2 models should have always been (minus the notch of the 3 XL).

I love my Pixel 2, but I admit it wasn’t able to prove itself worthy of being my main phone long term. The display was problematic for me with PWM glare and it just definitely looked like a much older Samsung display.

So I would have to agree that probably many people couldn’t use it as their only phone. MKBHD couldn’t even do it and he would know much better than I would how to troubleshoot his problems with his 2XL.

And my Pixel 2 does have a terribly dated look and feel to it. Not because of the bezels but just overall design and lack of a flagship staple like wireless charging.

However I think they still under delivered on the RAM for this year and storage options are not appealing to me, either. That alone makes the Pixel 3 phones still look a year or even two behind. But still, they’ve definitely improved over last year, or at least that’s the preliminary impression they give.

I have got to see the evidence that one camera lens can hold its own against the other phones with multiple camera lenses that could tempt me to open my wallet a few months after the Xr is settled in and I start pondering my Android options. It would definitely have to win me away from my S9+.

Never mind the excitement of the upcoming S10, I’ve still got my eye on the Note 9, too. I’m still in awe of the prospect of having a terabyte of storage open to me. I’ve been waiting to see what happens with prices, colors, and fixes to the few reported issues I’ve seen.

And I’m still not sure I want to give up my S9+ at all this year or even into spring of next year. I wasn’t expecting to be so impressed and so content with it.

Sometimes you get a phone and you just realize with a sickened thud of the heart that you got a lemon. That was my S8+.

What’s the opposite of a lemon? Whatever it is, that’s my S9+. I went along gradually realizing wow, this phone is really always there for me, doing it’s thing and doing it well. I wish it could work with my Apple Watch. Those two together would be my dream team, since things didn’t work out with my Max.

S9+ is an incredible all around device -- does virtually everything well, and some things exceptionally well.

As for the Pixel line, agree with much of what you said. It's why I say the Pixel 3 models are what the Pixel 2 models should have been, and it shows Google is still a solid year behind in hardware and design.

The Pixel 3 should have absolutely came with 6GB of RAM. That's a no-brainer for a late-2018 flagship going into 2019. It would have squashed any concerns that emerged from the Pixel 2 XL's issues earlier this year. Especially at the $799 starting price.

There's no sugar coating it: Google is still making mistakes.

I wonder why they are still making mistakes. I would think a company like that is headed up by some of the best minds available in that job market and that they are as passionate about tech as we are.

Bean counters must have a real strangle hold on these companies. As with Apple these days, I see much evidence of counting of the beans.
