Apparently the smaller 3 has different calibration profiles then the 3XL

https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/9ou1dp/pixel_3_apparently_has_worse_screen/

That would explain the difference seen in the review. My Best buy display units do have a noticable difference between the 3 and 3XL. Both still looked excellent but the smaller 3 looked more saturated. What I didn't see was a noticeable difference in off angle viewing which would be a clear indication of a different panel supplier.

I wonder why Google would calibrate the same profile (in this case, Adaptive by default) differently on the two models? Shouldn't the Adaptive profile on the 3 be the same as the Adaptive profile on the 3 XL? Strange choice...

sadly, this is what I saw on the display units at Best Buy the other day. the P3XL had a gorgeous, flawless look to it in color and saturation (IMO) but the P3 had a slight pink hue across the whole display, similar to the pic in your post. Both were set to the same Saturated display setting I believe. Sample size = 1 for me but discouraging to say the least. Let's hope this phenomenon only affects a very small sample size

Luckily, most of us won't have the 3 and 3 XL both at the same time on hand regularly to notice the difference, but it is odd. All reviews have said both models have great screens, so I think this is something we can let slide. I'll have to see when my device arrives.

I just hope it's also a Samsung panel in the 3. Wish we could get some confirmation on that. I don't know why no one is confirming it.

I agree. My P2XL didn't really have the blue tint that everyone else's had so I know YMMV with these screens.

Google details how its Titan M chip makes the Pixel 3 so secure

https://9to5google.com/2018/10/17/titan-m-pixel-3-security/

[doublepost=1539800488][/doublepost]Gizmodo's review of the Pixel 3 models say there is a rather large screen disparity between the two models.

https://gizmodo.com/google-pixel-3-review-the-other-way-to-make-a-killer-p-1829749807

With the inclusion of a new dual-cam system in front, Google clearly understands the value of having multiple cameras, and yet the camera in back doesn’t get any extra help. That’s frustrating because even though the Pixel’s Super Res Zoom feature is fine, it’s still not as good as a real 2x optical lens. There’s also a small concern regarding quality control because after turning them on for the first time, I noticed that the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL’s OLED screens featured noticeably different color temperatures, which only gets worse the more off-center you are.

This concerns me a great deal.

Is there any confirmation that the smaller one is a Samsung panel?
The 3 and XL at my local best buy both looked great in person. The 3 look nothing like the 2018 iPhone X series

Interesting. We shall see how it goes then. Willing to give LG a shot and it's been close enough so far to fool alot of people into thinking it's Samsung. Myself included.
[doublepost=1539812956][/doublepost]
That will not go over well. Though the 3 I saw in person looked great.

I don't think there is enough info to say that. Let's hope they have improved their product.

LG screen, 4GB of RAM... that $150 dollar price bump is getting harder and harder to justify.

The 128GB model comes in at $899 + tax. Process that for a moment. Google is even copying the "Apple-tax." Android iPhone, indeed.

Google didn't have to do it this way.

It sounds like you are very much on the fence about the product. I can't imagine the camera is worth that much to you over other cameras available.... Yes I agree that $150 price increase is not justified. But same goes for the $1000+ phones from Apple and others.... They saw a market that would allow a higher price so they took it....

14 days no questions ask for a refund no restock fee....

Are you sure that's accurate? Google's website says for wireless devices, a $35 dollar restocking fee is charged:

If you bought a wireless device from Google Store (like a Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL) and want to return it, do so within 15 calendar days of receiving it. A restocking fee of $35 applies to any return of such wireless device

Which, by the way, is bull.

did you cancel your order? With everything you have said that is a negative about the Pixel 3...why would you order this phone?

You know, I might have if it didn't ship early. I wasn't supposed to get it until the 25-26, and now it's already shipped and arriving 18-19.

I'm really not sure about this phone anymore. Again, it comes back to the price-hike. Why did the smaller Pixel 3 see such an insane price-hike compared to the larger model?

It's on its way so it can't be helped, but I will certainly evaluate carefully when I get it. Many of Google's decisions this year feel like they are trying to make these models as undesirable as possible.

Do yourself a favor and eliminate the frustration you have expressed here.....don't open it and send it back :)

I need either Samsung to get their camera as good as the Pixel, iOS to get as good as Android, or Google to get their hardware in better order.

Who is going to get there first?

Because every single one of those respective flagships have compromises.

This is looking like a pretty accurate review description: https://www.androidauthority.com/google-pixel-3-xl-review-911391/

Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL review:
The Android iPhone

It really feels like the "Android iPhone" more than ever before. It checks off the important core elements, has higher prices, and has specs that are just good enough.

The Android iPhone, indeed.
Yikes.

And check this out, the Pixel 3 XL did well in terms of app launch BUT kept only 1 app in RAM, everything else closed:

This is just shocking multitasking from the Pixel, was the Pixel 2 XL this bad to???

yep, it's $35... last year there was no restocking fee... must have had a lot of P2XL returns ;)

I agree they ALL do.....you have to pick one that has the least compromises for your use cases and live with the compromises.

Further on the above, looks like App Relaods will be a regular thing with the Pixel 3 XL. Losing to both Note9 and OnePlus 6 in Multitasking. I'd hate to see what the OnePlus 6T and Huawei Mate 20 Pro will do to the Pixel 3 XL

I really like the look and feel and shape and size of the iPhone XS Max beautiful phone but like I've always said iOS just sucks balls to me.

But...

It could be better so much better if they just revise iOS or if they Incorporated like the top 10 jailbreak tweaks and to stock iOS the phone to me would be super badass.

Last year it seemed like the LG panels were another lottery. Some seemed better and others worse.

I am still in, I like the total package. Now have a competitive display, pure android, great camera, great AI. Can acknowledge the disadvantages as well, but worth a shot to me.
