MKBHD probably just has an unlucky unit, but if this is the start of another XL screen problem...

That's what the popcorn is for. :)

Screened my first call. Felt good!

Just curious because I'm not sure I follow... the first Pixel 3 XL you got had no fingerprint imprint option?

You know what's kind of funny? I see a lot of people with iPhone X and XS angling their devices toward their faces all the time on the train. I see people at work, too, doing the same.

I love the back FPS of the Pixel 3. While it's definitely odd and a missed opportunity for Google not to offer some face unlock feature as an option after installing two front-facing cameras, I still love me a good fingerprint scanner. I'm looking forward to it being back on front under the display when that technology gets good, but the back location is perfectly fine, too. I pull out my device and with muscle memory of my finger, my device is awake and ready to go when I pull it up.

One of the frustrating things about my X when I had it for a few months was face unlock was clearly slower than FPS.

Yep, no option in the settings to choose fingerprint imprint. Only pin, password, etc.

I think that’s personal opinion. Samsung software is the worst I’ve experienced. And I trialled an S9. Give me stock any day over Samsung’s efforts.
I do agree that they’ve done well marching to their own beat though which is refreshing seeing all these other notched androids about.

So did the S9 launch with things like: a bug that stops it from saving pictures, bad RAM management, or poor audio from video recordings?

You're turning it into something completely different with a comment like that.

I could just respond with "did Google release a phone that blows up"? But that would be a bit of a silly comment when it adds nothing to the original point.
So I'll leave it there. :)

I don’t see how it’s completely different. You’re saying you don’t like Samsung software and I’m saying it’s higher quality than stock Android right now in terms of engineering.

It doesn't seem like Google is acknowledging or planning to issue any fixes for the RAM management.

They came out and said the low voice recording is intentional and can be tweaked in a software update. They said they would fix the camera glitch of pictures not saving.

But nothing about RAM management yet. Or did I miss it?

If more RAM was included in the Pixels and matched that of the S9, perhaps the device would perform differently.
Google will hopefully realise that they need to alter that in the Pixel 4.

In terms of the original point that Samsung software is superior, I will always disagree but that’s because I have never liked their version of Android and find their slow updates to be a bit of a joke considering their presence in the phone market.
But that’s a different story altogether.

Samsung isn’t writing the OS, but rather simply putting a custom layer on top. They also often take a good 6-8 months or even longer to create or update said layer for their hardware, letting Google do all the heavy lifting and work out all the bugs beforehand.

How many Samsung phones are running Pie? ;)

As far as 6T, one does not think there won’t be issues? Keep your fingers crossed but ....

How many smartphones have we found that hasn’t had any issues?

You get faster updates on the Pixel at the cost of having more bugs. Is that what you’re saying to me right now?

I think at this point, it’s a matter of pride for the Pixel team to stick at 4gb.

Nope, I’m saying that comparison isn’t on a fair playing field. It’s like saying Samsung builds a better house when they only have to paint it and fill it with furniture after Google designed it, built the foundation, the first two floors, plumbed it, wired it for electricity and then fixed the faults discovered after living in it for 6 months.

Then maybe they should slow down so the foundation is a little better.

Note 9 has a crashing camera bug since launch, a fix was released in September, still hasn't been pushed to my phone.

That’s weird. I’m sorry to hear that happened. I guess I’m just frustrated that we keep pretending Google does software so good when clearly they’re as bad as anyone else.

Interesting dead pixels probably Sabotage by Samsung
