Thank you.

I like my most used apps on the bottom right above the dock. And I like to have a nice wallpaper shown, with no other apps above the bottom row.

Why Apple doesn't allow the most basic simple of customization like that is beyond me.
It's rather simple why they don't allow it in my mind. A screen full of semi-uncontrollable app icons becomes a marketing piece for Apple. If you see a person out and about using their phone and you see their screen chock full of icons, you know it's an iPhone. Apple is very much about having their devices look the way they want so that they are recognizable in all facets, including software. If they did allow you to arrange your home screen however you want, what would set it apart from a competing Android to the glancing eye? It's the same reason they have yet to allow third-party watch faces. They control, and in turn limit, the content so that it aligns with the look and feel of what is shown in their marketing materials. This may be an outlandish opinion to some, but in a lot of ways, the consumer becomes a controlled marketing tool for Apple.

Apple also doesn't want to have screen shots showing home screens in disarray and looking all chaotic with gaps everywhere and whatnot. We've all seen some crazy Android home screens. I don't agree with what they are doing but I see why they do it.

Yep, it's an image. Having an iPhone is every bit about image. Apple knows how to design an OS that allows for some more freedom and customization (Mac OS?). They just don't want to.

The average person doesn't care about customization, widgets, themes, default apps, etc. The average person wants something that's consistent, easy to use, and simple. That's what Apple caters to and they're very good at it. That and making things that feel premium so they can justify the high price tag.

But isn't MacOS limited in some way

But iOS has consistently gotten more difficult to use and navigate with each iteration of iOS, while Android has actually gotten easier to use.

While I agree with what you said, pandering to the 'average user' and alienating the 'power user' is not a business model that I agree with no matter how successful said model is. I wouldn't say iOS is any easier to use than Android in 2018 either. I would just say some folks are more comfortable with what's familiar. It's not that they should force people to use widgets, themes or default apps. If the 'average user' won't care, that's fine, use your screen of icons and be happy. Give all of us, 'average user' or 'power user', options.

I wish I could enjoy a Pixel 3. Original one from Google had a dead pixel. Returned. Out of stock so canceled replacement. Won't see refund probably for another month because Google takes forever. Tried two at Best Buy and both had dead pixels, so returned those. I'm an idiot and bought from BB on a Verizon installment plan in order to get a $100 gift card. Big mistake. Since the original BB order was made online for in-store pick up, they (BB) somehow could not cancel the installment plan when the phones were returned. I've never heard of this happening before. So the manager credited the entire retail price + tax of the phone to my credit card so that I can pay it off completely with Verizon. I'll still need to eat the activation fee. Such a complicated process, hopefully it'll work (still don't see the "refund" appearing on my CC account) and I am never buying a phone on any installment plan again.

Way to go LG, glad to see they've made progress with their OLED screens. Can't wait to deal with this mess on future iPhones that use LG panels. Dead pixel out of the box I will never accept.

The average person wants a nfc enabled device which works with other nfc enabled devices, a Bluetooth enabled device which works with other Bluetooth enabled devices, storage capacity that works with other devices, the ability to repair it ones self, not have to pay for a usable back up capacity, a device which hobbled itself to con you into buying new or a mahoosive price tag for piddling specs and memory.

People just want to buy a phone with no bull ****

You think the average person wants to repair their own phone? Or knows what NFC even is? I think most of what you put is your wish list thrown on “average user”.

The average user doesn't know about NFC, cloud backups or even storage capacity. The only reason many people know what BT is, is because they may have wireless headphones. If you asked 100 people on the street if they know how much RAM their phone has, or what OS is installed, 90-95 won't have any idea. To give you some semblance of just how ignorant Americans are, only a slim majority (51%) know where New York is. According to Forbes and National Geographic, an alarming 29% couldn’t point to the Pacific Ocean! A surprisingly high percentage of Americans, 20%, believe that the Sun revolves around the Earth. (Source: https://thoughtcatalog.com/nico-lan...mericans-dont-know-according-to-poll-numbers/)

You expect these same people to have a clue about their phone? LOL.

My new washing machine has nfc. Useless for my wife's iPhone.
My travel cards are nfc. Useless for IPhones.
My wife hates the constant iCloud notifications.
I'm forever clearing her phone and memory.

You named one thing that has to do with an average user. And no, you’re not an average user. I’m not an average user. Also, you have the power to stop the iCloud notifications you’re just unwilling to.

While I agree with what you said, pandering to the 'average user' and alienating the 'power user' is not a business model that I agree.

Also, there is no reason why the world's most "advanced mobile operating system" can't cater to both "average users" who don't wish to customize their phone and "power users" who do.

Agreed. They should allow customization. I think the main reason why they haven’t is because they’ve probably just been bolting features into Springboard and need a large scale rewrite.

but why can't Apple offer that customization? If you don't want it to the average Joe Blow won't use it that's fine but at least give others the option to customize their iPhone if they would like to why are people so against that?

The best thing about following any thread is that I can get an idea of what people think of iOS, even if the topic is the Note 9 or Pixel 3.

Camera is unreal, esp with night site.

Despite the known and much talked about issues, my biggest annoyance with the Pixel 3 XL is when playing video, due to the speakers the phone vibrates when holding it, volume doesn't really matter. Not a big deal, but just annoying and makes things sound hollow compared to iPhone.

Google are really dropping the ball on shipping out the Pixel phones and their customer service. I orginally had a delivery date of Nov 3, then moved up to Oct 30, now today is get an email that it's been moved back to Nov 7. They have no clue and are just moving dates at random.

Similar thing happened to a friend who ordered two (one for himself, one for his wife), both with Project Fi SIM cards.
Is yours SIM-free or with Project Fi?
I wonder if it's a packaging issue or a manufacturing issue...
