Tig, why do you post on MacRumors so often when you dislike iOS so much? I’m just curious. That’d be like me posting in a Galaxy forum.

I post in the "Alternative phone" section only. This is a great tech forum, smart people here. And this area is for Android users, Windows Phone people, or Linux fans, etc...

I don't post my dislike for iOS on the iPhone threads.

So if the Pixel 3, was the same price as the 6T, you'd still take it even though;

- No IP68
- Worse camera
- Lower res worse display
- No wireless charging
- Slower monthly security updates
- Cheaper haptic vibration

Really?
- I would have loved to have ip68 on 6t.
- Imo I don't think the camera is far off on the 6t in performance (excluding night sight).
- when I have a 2k screen and the option to turn it off, I do. I prefer to have a longer battery life.
- I never used wireless charging. I much rather a phone that charges fast.
- OnePlus is not bad on updates so not a big deal
- I only use vibration for when my phone rings so I've never cared enough about this.

I didn't clarify in my original post but I meant to say the 3xl. I just really could not stand the notch on that phone. I know I can turn it off but then it just looks really dated.

The above list i gave really does sound like excuses but for me I just want a big screen without a notch, great camera, fast performance and dual speakers. With the 6t I can compromise on the notch and the speakers. I really can't compromise on performance. Its also seems pixels just keep having nagging issues that would infuriate me.

Maybe I was exaggerating when I said I would take the 6t even if the pixel was the same price. I really just can't get behind Google for the price increase, notch copying and skimping on RAM. Really leaves a bad taste for me. This is coming from someone that really liked previous pixels and Nexus devices, check my post history. If you check my history I was seriously considering the pixel 3 before it came out .I knock Apple for the same thing, crazy price, skimping on features, notch. I can't be biased.

I've said in the Mate 20 pro thread. That is the best phone out now imo that is worth the price tag. Yeah it does have a notch but it seems for now we don't have much options left so I'll just have to use the option to turn it off.

Not brand loyal to any company. Hopefully the pixel 4 with the new design team lives up to expectations.

I guess my my thoughts are, there is no "perfect smartphone"

Yes I like my Pixel 3 XL, but it's far from perfect. And then what phone is ? The OnePlus 6T is nice, but it cuts corners to keep the lower price. The iPhone XS Max is a beautiful phone, great build, gorgeous full screen, but it runs iOS which is the deal killer.

My perfect phone for 2018, would be the iPhone XS Max running Lineage 16.0.

The Mate 20 seems like a great phone but one thing I will say is that more features doesn't always been a better experience. Specs and features is only half the battle.

If going by price, the 6T wins always. It's a great phone, easily on par speed wise and smoothness to the expensive flagships, actually the 6T is faster. For the $580 the 6T on the Android side is easily the best phone, why spend $920 on a brand new LG V40 over the 6T ? Why spend $840 on the Galaxy S9+ over the 6T ? Why spend $1,100 on the iPhone XS Max over the 6T ? ( personally I think spending over $1,000 on a cell phone is pure insanity and a poor decision, especially with how a year later they get outdated with a new model )

All these $900+ priced phones don't do anything different than the 6T. They all text the same. They all make phone calls the same. They all surf the web the same. They all have YouTube the same. They all play music the same. They all have pretty good overall cameras. I guess why spend any more than the OnePlus 6T for a new smartphone ? What do these $1,000 smartphone truly offer that the 6T doesn't ? Ok yeah IP68 is nice, wireless charging is nice too, but those features do not add up to the 50% price difference.

If those are your requirements...you could get a 3 or 4 hundred dollar phone to meet those requirements....

I bet we see a $2,000 US dollar priced iPhone soon enough. Which will mean $1,500+ Android phones. And OnePlus will sell at the bargain price of only $999. I bet this is only 5 years away, if current trends continue.

Phone carriers have already started rolling out the 36 month plans, meaning the iPhone XS Max sounds pretty affordable to Joe Blow when it's only $28/month. Which is insane, because that's based off 3 years of payments.

So once phones reach closer to that $2,000 price tag, carriers will come out with 48 month plans to keep them looking affordable to Joe Blow. Which will mean people will just keep their phone longer, only replacing them every 4 yrs

I think these prices are pure craziness. $1,000+ becoming the norm is disgusting.

I actually really like my Pixel 3XL, the display is gorgeous, the camera is great, and I get fast updates once a month direct from Google. Plus nice features such as wireless charging and piece of mind with IP68. These aren't must haves, but good to have.

But people are saying the Pixel 3 is nowhere near worth the price, I should only get the OnePlus 6t and almost saying I'm stupid for buying the Pixel over the OnePlus.

Listen I agree the 6T is a great smartphone, and for sure the deal of the year at it's price. But I just prefer my Pixel a little better.

I wasn't promoting one phone or the other......
I was just saying if the below are what you need...then a basic $350 smartphone will do that.....

my point was more aimed at the OnePlus 6T fans saying it does everything a smartphone needs to at a fraction of the cost of the thousand-dollar flagships and what their line of thinking like okay then an iPhone or Galaxy or pixel is just a waste of money because at the end of the day the OnePlus does everything this phones do for much cheaper.

But then again, it doesn't.

I think the biggest reason to buy an iPhone is because of its security, especially its end-to-end iMessage encryption, which surpasses anything any Android phone can provide (this includes the Pixel), and the more polished iOS apps. I want to buy a 6T to save money, but I’d be constantly paranoid, wondering about what China is doing with my data on my phone. The same worry extends to the Pixel, with Google mining your data in order to sell it.

All of these worries with Androids and more are what makes me continue buying iPhones. But, damn, iPhones are becoming more and more expensive. Even the bulky XR (the 128GB variant) with its thick bezels would come out to 1k. Crazy.

Got my hands on the OnePlus 6t today. Gotta be honest, if the Pixel doesn't amaze me the next week it's going back for the OnePlus. The build quality and responsiveness was really good. The gestures are 100x better than the Pixel.

Slower? The 6T had an update pushed out that gave it November’s patch level. That’s faster than the Pixel.

OnePlus 6t will equal or surpass any flagship phone in all areas except wireless charging, IP rating, and camera performance and even there it's definitely not noticeably worse for most people. It will get updates faster than any phone besides Google devices, it will be a performance and battery leader, and it will get excellent Dev support.

The only people that shouldn't be targeting the OnePlus IMO are people that need a stylus (Note people) or people that put camera as the highest priority. Im giving the Pixel 3 XL a chance but I don't see a lot of things that it does better so far.

I'm not saying the Pixel 3 XL is the best phone ever. No way.

In my world, I would've designed it to have an Essential phone type tiny notch. I would remove the bottom chin, and have the phone be almost all display with zero bezels. To do that give it stereo speakers like HTC Ten or iPhone XS. Then the phone would have like a 6.5" screen, but be overall smaller.

Give it 8GB RAM

4,000mAh battery

Google could have, and should have done that, and then they could easily charge the $1,000 price tag.

But they didn't, and we got the 3 XL. But I buy my phones for smooth fluid UI, direct fast updates, beautiful displays, the top cameras. Yeah the Pixel 3 XL could've been so much better, but it is what it is, and I'll still take it over a Galaxy or LG, or HTC phone any day, mainly because I like vanilla Android.

And the iPhone XS Max not even an option as it runs iOS, which is a no no to me in it's current form. Now if there's a stable Jailbreak, yes I'd suggest the iPhone then, but stock iOS just sucks so hard, it desperately needs the JB to bring the OS into this decade.

But I will give Apple credit on design and hardware. Apple makes the most beautifuly designed smartphones each year. And their hardware and processors are the BEST. Holding the iPhone XS Max is a treat, just such a nice phone, and still no Android phone looks or feels as good. Like Apple has some patent on coolest looking phone's. The full screen, no chin, and amazing Samsung display just make the XS Max jaw dropping.
[doublepost=1541283020][/doublepost]Also, keep in mind, I got my Pixel 3 XL for $855 w/Tax + shipping final price. If it was $999+ I would not have bought it.

So you think because OnePlus beat the Pixel to a security update upon it's release, that means it's going to continue to get updates faster than the Pixel...the phone built by Google. Even though there's 2 years of evidence that show otherwise. And even though OnePlus has already said that they won't be pushing updates for every monthly security patch. And even though Oneplus has a skin (albeit a light one) that could need updates which requires testing before being released.

Good call. You obviously know a lot about this.

Ok so OnePlus has the November patch, literally just a few days before Google pushes it to the Pixel's on Monday.

Let's see a year from now, how the next 12 months ago. Something tells me the Pixel 3 will easily get these updates way faster and first before the 6T.

But whatever, it's good to see Android phones getting updated on time, like they should. Hello Scamdung, I mean Samesuck can they do this ?

Does the T-Mobile One plus 6T have this November update ? From what I'm reading the Tmo 6T doesn't. The T-Mobile OnePlus 6T did not get this update

Do you have a source for that? I haven't heard that before. Do you have a 6t with the November security patch? Was it pushed out OTA?

I posted questions about the November Security Patch in the OnePlus 6t and Pixel 3 threads over at Android Central to get a good sampling....

Lol no not really. If you've read my other posts, I literally said today that I'm probably going to return my Pixel for a OnePlus 6t because it's a great phone eapecially when you consider the cost savings. Hell, I think everyone hopes they do everything better than the other manufacturers if they keep their same pricing.

But you conveniently ignored the facts in my post about updates on Pixels vs OnePlus. If you're going to double down on a false insinuation, have some evidence to back it up. Deflecting like you're doing is just lazy.

Wait a second, us Pixel and OnePlus owners shouldn't be arguing, we're fans of the same type of phones.

Smooth Android UI, stock vanilla from Google, or tweaked ASOP UI from OnePlus.

End of the day, Pixel and OnePlus are the two best smartphones for Android.

When I'm looking fur a new phone, it's only two options' the latest Nexus/Pixel, or the newest OnePlus. I'd never look at any other Android phones.

I’m doubling down on the fact that OnePlus seems to have gotten so good at security patches they’re ahead of Google this month. Let’s see what happens from now on. The main reason I brought it up was because “slower updates” was considered a downside when the 6T has so far been super fast with updates.

LOL read the last two posts in this thread:

https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/help/id-6t-getting-updates-faster-pixel-3s-t3862528

OnePlus not beating Google to the punch on updates

Especially moving forward. Once both the Pixel 3 and OnePlus 6T have been out over a month, GUARANTEE the Pixel 3 gets updates first and more frequently.

I agree the OnePlus 6T is a great phone, one of the top Android phones this year. But to say they'll get updates faster and quicker than Google's own phone is ridiculous. Don't base the first month of release as gospel for future yodare history
