With the Pixel's squeeze function to activate Assistant, there's really no reason why Google's gestures are so half baked. They didn't remove the nav bar because they need the home pill button available to press for Assistant. But if you're really going to do gestures right, you have to get rid of the nav bar for the extra screen space. Squeeze replaces the need to hold a button for Assistant.

I really hope Google revamps the gestures in Android O. They are known to change things up often, change this. Make them better. Make them like the 6T gestures. I love the idea that you can swipe up on either side depending on the situation for the back button.

Only thing is the security patches don't drop until the first Monday of the month ........so it will become available OTA on Monday the Nov 5th for the Pixels.....

So no Pixel will have via OTA

Then the OPO 6t articles says it was released...... But has anyone received it OTA?
EDIT: Then T-Mobile is responsible for patching the T-Mobile variant of the OPO 6t.......I wonder how that will go?

Google releases their security patches, once a month, on the first Monday of the month.

The Pixel 3, Pixel 2, and Pixel will get these right away first this Monday.

LOL read the last two posts in this thread:

OnePlus not beating Google to the punch on updates

Especially moving forward. Once both the Pixel 3 and OnePlus 6T have been out over a month, GUARANTEE the Pixel 3 gets updates first and more frequently.

I agree the OnePlus 6T is a great phone, one of the top Android phones this year. But to say they'll get updates faster and quicker than Google's own phone is ridiculous. Don't base the first month of release as gospel for future yodare history

I have a friend who has a OnePlus 5 and he says updates average 2-3 months behind Android security patches. I guess this is still better than most OEMs who are 6+ months behind? Still bad though.

I would be happy with OnePlus updates being a couple months behind Google. It's the other OEMs I find unacceptable. Samsung especially given their size and resources taking 6-9 months to update their newest flagships is a joke.

The issue isn't that we think your lying about the OnePlus getting a security update for November before the Pixel. The issue is that you insinuated that it will continue to get updates before the Pixel which is total ********. It may get a security update first every once in a while, but there's zero chance it gets any major updates before the Pixel phones. Period.

When you scroll down on the OnePlus 6T's webpage to the OxygenOS part, it reads "Smoother than Stock" in big bold letters.

Ouch.

True. But are new versions even as important as security patches these days?

Are they wrong?

Most of the time the security updates are really just bug fixes.

So you honestly believe that OnePlus will get updates before the Pixels when literally all the evidence and even comments from OnePlus suggest otherwise?

Ok back on topic here...

After using the Pixel for a weekend, here's my thoughts:

- UI is fast and smooth. I loved my Note 8 but the Pixel is noticeably smoother everywhere.
- Camera is great but the best part for me since I have a 1 year old is the object tracking feature. Just select the face of the person you want to track and it keeps it in focus while they move around. It's pretty amazing.
- as everyone else said, you get used to the notch after a day. The only times it's annoying is when watching video full screen. My biggest gripe here is that the notches don't provide an usefullness. The whole point of the extra real estate is to get more on the screen and they really don't use it well. But that can be fixed in software updates.
- Aggressive app killing is definitely a problem but not as severe as some are making it out to be. Hasn't killed any background media for me but it does only keep 3-4 apps in memory and it seems like when a picture is taken it kills everything in the background.
- My biggest problem with the phone are the speakers. Originally I thought they sounded ok but in further testing they are pretty awful. They still beat almost every phone without dedicated front speakers but phones like the xs max absolutely kill the Pixel. They get really loud but the issue is with the sound quality. At low volumes it almost sounds like something is covering the speakers. They sound muffled and distorted. Really awful. At higher volumes it's no so bad.
- screen quality is excellent. Brightness isn't the best but I only see it being a problem when outside on sunny days. Even then the screen gets bright enough but I'd be worried as to what that would do to battery life.
- call screen is the most useful feature to come to phones in a long time. It's not a gimmick and I'll be using it almost every day.
- the haptic engine is the best on any Android phone I've used. Still nowhere near the iPhone but it's not appalling like most Android phones.

Any other questions about the phone I'll be happy to answer. Overall undecided about keeping it or getting the OnePlus 6t. I may grab one this week, compare, and then decide which one to send back.

Thanks for the mini review! I'm kind of going the reverse route you are. I have a 6T arriving tomorrow and I'll use it for a bit then I plan on trying out a 3 XL at a later date. Maybe around Black Friday/Cyber Monday if there's any decent deals. In the end, I'll end up keeping one of the two only and selling the other one.

No problem.

Yeah that's always a good plan. I find it hard to compare devices unless you have them both in front of you. I have no doubt that all around I'll find that the Pixel 3 XL is the better device, but for me it will be does the difference in quality and features justify spending the extra ~$400. I think its going to be hard for the Pixel 3 XL to win that battle based on my current feel for the device. It's a great phone, but if the 6T can replicate close to the same experience for so much less than i'll be moving that way. I just think i'd rather save the money than have wireless charging, waterproofing, a better camera, and quicker updates. But we'll see.

I just realized my Pixel 3 is on security patch level: Sept 5. Says my system is up to date.

What the???

So I found out the Pixel is compatible with AT&T WiFi calling. Pulled the trigger and got overnight shipping. Will be getting it tomorrow. If true, then that will retire both my smaller S9 and Essential phone, leaving the rotation to only the Note 9 and Pixel 3, iPhone XS is my only phone on my personal line.
