Most likely fragmentation and other handset skins and UIs

I feel like Google can achieve both a system-wide dark theme for Pixel devices and dark themes for individual apps for people who don't own Pixel devices. OnePlus has a system-wide dark theme, if I'm not mistaken.

Hopefully in Android Q...

You mean the Tmobile Visual Voicemail app? Yea, it doesn't work for me either. I don't get many voicemails so it's not a big deal, but definitely weird it's not working.

No, not the Tmobile version. The Pixel dialer has VVM built in. You can activate it in the settings and a new tab will show up in the phone app. However, mine fails to activate no matter what I try. If you have the T-mobile VVM app installed, the option in the Phone app doesnt even show up.

I see what you mean now. Mine appears to be fine. I'm using the one in the Phone app now.

Bizarre...

With the left side of the device completely vacant, Google should install a sound/vibration slider ala the OnePlus.

Dark modes have always looked amateurish to me. Something is never quite right about the way they look. I prefer lighter colors I guess. Always good to have a choice though.
Yeah, complete dark or black modes don't look right to be either. But I do like dark mode when it's a dark grey (check out dark mode in YouTube).

Can't find it on mine. It's an unlocked model I'm using on at&t. I am using Google voice as my voicemail.

I agree that the pure black modes look kind of weird almost shiny black and do like amature and sort of unprofessional.

but dark modes can look really cool and look like they were designed as part of the operating system on my rooted Pixel 3 XL I use Swift Dark theme and it's absolutely a joy it's dark not pure black it just looks so pleasing and nice on the eyes.

but as far as battery life goes I think only those pure black true black themes actually save battery life I don't think dark themes do much to help battery, it got to be the pure black for that AMOLED screens to turn off pixels

but the blinding white theme that are stock lately are just too much they're way too hard on the eyes and just like burn your retinas out

The setting disappears if you have another voicemail app installed. If you uninstall all other voicemail apps you'll see an option for visual voicemail in the phone app.

I uninstalled it and still no option for visual voicemail.

I wonder if AT&T/Google blocks it? I know with my Pixel 2 XL, I was able to get VVM in the dialer app with T-Mobile. And my wife on Verizon (with a Google purchased P2XL) has VVM in the dialer. I'm not sure if things changed with the P3/P3XL as we don't own those.

Never had VVM on my unlocked Pixel 2 XL with AT&T when I had it.

I know when I had the Nexus 5 a couple years ago it worked. Since then the only stock devices I used on at&t was the original pixel and essential phone, neither had the option. But the original pixel I had was the Verizon model, bad the essential is stock, but not "Google" stock.

I picked up a Pixel 3 yesterday as I didn't like Apple's releases this year so my upgrade money for this year went to the Pixel 3. I also picked up the Google fabric case with it.

So far I'm quite impressed. I've tried out the previous Pixels but ended up moving away due to lack of polish in certain apps. It seems there is more polish in this year's release of Android; but I'm sure that can be said each year. It's showing just how stale iOS is to me.

I love the smaller bezels than the iPhone 7/8 Plus and fast charging out of the box. I definitely prefer fingerprint to unlock over using Face ID. No offense to 3 XL users but I'm still not a fan of notches on phones.

Overall what attracted me to the Pixel 3 was the sleek simple/minimalistic design, and fast updates. I do also prefer stock Android.

Going to use this device for 1 full week to see if it can overtake iOS for me. Too soon to tell but I have high hopes.
