You really can’t avoid overheating with these SoCs. They don’t have proper cooling and are designed to run to their throttle point and then throttle. The touchscreen issue looks annoying though.

I personally decided to skip the 6/6 Pro and watch how Google’s QC is with it. If all goes well, I’ll probably go for a 7 next year.
I’m not sure how it is with the very latest Samsung phones but for awhile they were trying to mitigate heat buildup for gamers. As I recall it was some kind of thin metal pipe. It worked though some reviewers said it didn’t really do anything. But my S9+ ran very cool at a time I struggled with overheating on my iPhone.

Some chips just come out with thermal problems and others don’t. The 765G is pretty easily explained IMO. It only has one high performance core at a high clock and a second high performance core at a lower clock. These single HP designs tend to run hotter than other designs with more HP cores to share the load.

Vapor chamber cooling offers limited cooling potential. The devices still overheat, it just takes them longer to get there. That’s why gaming phones have active cooling with tiny fans or external fans.

I haven’t really experienced a lot of overheating with my iPhones although I have definitely noticed that 5G makes my 12 Pro Max hot to the touch on the side and the back up near the camera if I use it for a large download. I’ve never experienced the screen dimming issue people complain about though.

My iPhone minis get hot where you describe if I’m on this forum and sunlight from the window hits the phone even if the room is 71F. My 12 Pro max doesn’t have a sim in it and hasn’t overheated yet. So I think I just learned from you it’s possibly the 5G heating things up. I couldn’t ever work out what on earth was causing this.

I don’t know what’s going on but I never get the best call quality on iPhone. Ever. And if it’s from one iPhone to another my caller and I are lucky if we can make out what’s being said through the entire conversation. I thought going to Qualcomm modems would help but I just can’t get quite as clear a connection as I did on my HTC 10 and my Samsungs. My Pixel 3XL had decent clarity but sometimes the sound would drop completely even the connection didn’t.

I’m hoping Google really tested the heck out of the 6/6 Pro this time.

Yeah the 5G radio in the 12 series runs very hot. If you’re not doing anything that requires the fast speeds and it is heating up, turn on low power mode. That will stop 5G from running except during streaming video. It’s easier than running to cellular settings to turn it off if you put the low power mode toggle into Control Center.

I have noticed that iPhones are not the best for audio quality as well. I agree that the HTC 10 was phenomenal for call quality (the speakers HTC used on the One M7, M8, M9, and 10 were amazing). Turning on VoLTE has improved iPhone call quality dramatically for me but I use Google Voice for most of my calls rather than pay more for unlimited minutes so it’s a moot point anyway for me.

The Samsung modem in the Pixel 6/6 Pro does concern me a bit. I wasn’t a fan of Samsung’s modem when I had a Note 5 and I haven’t heard too many people sing their praise overseas sing their praise either but the one that Google is using looks fine on paper at least.

OMG.... I hope this leak is true. But I have reservations...

Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro tipped for September 13 global launch.

I hope so too but damn that would be something. Dunno if it’s smart by google to clash or with the Apple event though

It would be awesome for us if that were true, but it would be insanely dumb by Google. The iPhone release would kill the media coverage for the Pixel.

A global launch to me would be when Google have their event and allow pre orders that same day like usual. Doesn't give them much time to promote the hell out of it like they were supposedly going to do.

The only way I can see it working is if they already have devices in the hands of tech reviewers right now. Then a surprise global announcement along with hands on videos from the tech industry releasing right before the iPhone announcement might work. Start pre-orders that day with a end of the month release.

But that camera bar is killing it. Why oh why

Have you seen the Pixel 6 cases yet? LOL. That rear camera bump looks even more ridiculous with the case.

Google just can’t get their act together it seems.

This Pixel is basically a Samsung Galaxy running stock Android. Ugh, thats not a good thing, it’s actually a major turnoff.

The Pixel 4 XL was the best designed Pixel to date, minus the Frankenstein forehead. And the Pixel 5 has a great minimalistic design no flash just to the point. I wish the Pixel 6 was a combo design and style of the Pixel 5 + 4 XL.

I think it looks fine. Definitely not like every other phone with is a good thing. Plus the people that have seen it in person said it looks better then the rendors.

I am more than ok with the Pixel 6 having tons of Samsung parts! I think that would be an upgrade over years past.
I hope they use Samsung displays and fingerprint sensor for starters.

I have been running Android 12 beta on my Pixel 4XL and is amazing. The overall refinement of Android 12 on a Pixel device is unmatched. Makes me hyped for the Pixel 6 even more!

I'm not a fan of that camera bump. I wouldn't worry about unequal bezels. I'm sure that's just a flakey rendering. Nobody would release a phone with asymmetrical bezels, not even Google.

I just ordered a Pixel 5 and will see what the Pixel 7 bring to the table.

As long as it takes amazing photos could care less about camera bumps these days. It’s needed to get great camera hardware

Samsung type hardware plus google software could make it the perfect phone

Apart from the still broken search bar in the app drawer ;) .... it really winds me up everytime i see it and keep hoping every new beta will either jetison it or fix it - but at least its 'maskable' if you utilise the themed icons and dark options.

I would have preferred a simpler cleaner design, but I really find my S21 Ultra a comfortable phone to wield for such a large phone. Even when it’s in the bulky s pen case. (Think what a chonky tank the 12 Pro Max would be in a case like that). So I’m hoping the overall resemblance to the current Galaxy is a good thing.

The camera bridge isn’t ideal but none of them are.

Pixel launch not til 28th October according to prosser
That’s good for me because I’m possibly traveling at the end of September and would have had to figure out how to deal with delivery without being there to sign for it. Though with my responsibilities, I could be called away at any time so…whatever. I really need to familiarize myself with places that take deliveries for you until you pick them up.

In some ways it’s a bummer if Google loses anyone who sees the new iPhones and decides to spend on them instead. I don’t know how many customers that would be, though. How many people are that flexible choosing between iOS and Android?

The iPhone rumors look good. There are a lot of welcome new features rumored. I’m not preordering for my upgrade, but if the reviews show me what I want to see, I can see eventually trading my 12 Pro max in for an upgrade. That wouldn’t knock me off course for a Pixel 6 Pro though.
