That’s good for me because I’m possibly traveling at the end of September and would have had to figure out how to deal with delivery without being there to sign for it. Though with my responsibilities, I could be called away at any time so…whatever. I really need to familiarize myself with places that take deliveries for you until you pick them up.

In some ways it’s a bummer if Google loses anyone who sees the new iPhones and decides to spend on them instead. I don’t know how many customers that would be, though. How many people are that flexible choosing between iOS and Android?

The iPhone rumors look good. There are a lot of welcome new features rumored. I’m not preordering for my upgrade, but if the reviews show me what I want to see, I can see eventually trading my 12 Pro max in for an upgrade. That wouldn’t knock me off course for a Pixel 6 Pro though.

Well Google will have to cry over me I purchased and have been using a pixel 5A since last Friday and I can absolutely say now that my curiosity for Android is more dead than my love life.

I have been spoiled by the smoothness and polish of iOS and even though it’s missing the customizability (don’t really care about that anymore anyways), split screen (still think this is a gimmick on any phone screen with the exception of the Fold 2/3) and assistant, none of that matters to me if the software is janky, is missing QOL software features that I love on iOS and I just don’t like the design ha.

So pixel 6 isn’t even enticing to me but I hope the rest of you guys enjoy it but I can finally say my lust for Android is now buried with the rubble of the Red Keep along with Jamie and Cersei.

What don’t you like about the 5a specifically?

Smoothness and polish of iOS? Maybe with some apps but overall, well I guess I will have to wait and see. The version of Android I’m using is Samsung’s and it’s smooth enough. I haven’t used my Pixel 3XL in a long while but my time back on my Pixel 2 a few months ago were enjoyable.

Well at least you tried it. I’m sorry it didn’t work out for you.

Smoothness and polish? iOS has been a dumpster fire of bugs and annoyances since 13, a trend they look poised to keep going on 15. Android looks like it has come a long way compared to iOS and Android 12 looks incredible next to stagnant iOS.

Getting very impatient waiting for my 3 XL.

The 5a is fine my problem is with the software. I just don’t like it.

Well I’ve run every beta since iOS 7 and thankfully have yet to experience any serious show stopping bug.

I even tried Android 12 and it was cool but still it annoyed me.

I’ve had the complete opposite experience with iOS and especially the betas.

It took them until 15 DB8 to finally fix Twitter crashing upon being opened, Bitwarden which is a mandatory app for me was broken for three betas, they still haven’t addressed all of us who are annoyed with the current DND setup where you can’t even get notifications when you’re on your device, Safari has been a rollercoaster, Private Relay has been messy and left me having to manually download images in Mail for a few updates even when I had the feature disabled, memory management has been all over the board (nothing like taking a photo and having the phone close every app you’re using), and battery life was a mess until I just went ahead and reset all the settings on my phone.

15 has been better than 13, I’ll give them that, but I’m not convinced they’ll release a stable build. No, it’s much more likely 16 will be another “let’s fix all the bugs we were too lazy to fix before” release. It’s getting old.

My husband got a call on his 12 Pro Max this morning. I’m not sure exactly what all happened because it was a hectic morning and I was doing a million things at once, but he said his phone froze up and did some wonky stuff. He couldn’t access his dialer. He couldn’t do what he needed to do. This was while taking an important call about his dad’s health care. It was just the basic phone app on the phone and it flamed out spectacularly. Thank goodness he wasn’t in an emergency situation. Speaking of which…

A few years back due to a snafu with the connection between my Apple Watch and my iPhone, I couldn’t make a call out and calls also weren’t coming in properly. But the way this was occurring looked normal. Like I’d assume my outgoing calls just weren’t being answered. I didn’t even know I had incoming calls until I was asked directly why I had stopped answering my phone and shut off voicemails.

I don’t know exactly how to explain what went wrong but it boiled down to something I screwed up setting up my watch to work with a new iPhone. The point to keep in mind is that to all appearances everything seemed fine so I didn’t know there was a problem! A medical emergency did arise and I saw the hard way there was an issue with the iPhone, but fortunately my s9+ was there to save the day.

So…we need to smash this myth that Apple is always smooth and easy. They all mess up sometimes. I’m at fault for what went wrong with my iPhone, but I am surprised the problem was allowed to persist without me knowing there was a problem.

iPhones and iPads were the devices Steve Jobs was so proud that even grandmas and grandpas could use them, because they were so designed to get technology out of the way, so people could do “people things”.

People who’ve known me here awhile know I am myself an iPhone fan because I’m NOT a tech head. I love technology and I’d love to be a genuine tech head like the rest of you, but the reality is that I’m thick as a brick about these things. In the 80’s I was the admiring girlfriend peering over the shoulder of my husband like Ally Sheedy did with Mathew Broderick in War Games. And even as a feminist, I’ve got no shame about that, because I grew up economically disadvantaged so didn’t have the access to things that would have built the skills. And for that reason I was more into the arts and bio sciences than computer technology at that point, because they were fields that were more economically accessible to me and to the school system I was in.

Anyway, iOS, as it has evolved, is no longer quite as friendly to the masses, judging from how often my husband now has to troubleshoot family devices and sort out iCloud account issues. Even my husband doesn’t have the time or the energy to get into the details anymore. He just wants things to work. And he has said that both platforms are a PITA from time to time. He does prefer iOS though because he thinks the apps are written better for iOS.

Sorry for the long winded post. I am just so excited about the Pixel 6/6 Pro and I’m so twitchy for leaks and rumors and there just aren’t enough! lol. I know Android isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. But I’ve got a place in my heart and wallet for it and I can’t wait!

I can’t wait for the reviews and Flossy’s videos. I think at the end of the day he’s an iPhone guy. But he has a lot of fun with the android phones.

I wish there were more leaked photos of the phones. I can’t figure out what color I want. I guess it’s between gold and white. I can’t wait to see what their cases will look like. I’m as excited as a kid at Christmas!

Grumpy Mom you bring up an interesting point how older iPhones were known to be the easy no fuss phone great for grandparents to easily learn in Android was to complicate it one.

That's just not true whatsoever anymore I think that iPhone has way too many settings and weird funkiness and how it operates and it's just kind of strange and odd to move around the UI and Android I find very simple very easy quick to learn and move around.

And yes iPhones even the top of the line best 12 Pro Max definitely can have issues pretty much every smartphone today seems to Samsung Galaxy Google Pixel they all seem to have some funky issues here and there

I think from a social media aspect of it... he's for iPhone with posting videos or pictures. But I honestly think he gravitates toward Android, primarily because of Samsung. The Note is practically his favorite phone, but Samsung potentially abandoning the line might cause him to rethink what phone to carry.

Granted, he's excited for every new Android that comes across the table... but when it comes to the Note with the silo for the S-Pen; his excitement goes to another level.

I think flossy enjoys iPhone due to the Apple Watch and the ecosystem. He’s very much a heavy social media guy which the iPhone is still better at I would say.

however he loves all tech really. Mi11 ultra is the best phone in his eyes and fold the coolest.

as for pixel android 12 does interest me a lot. Something new and fresh. As it stands it will likely be my next android phone of choice.

The above site compares the size of the new Pixel 6 ( non Pro ) to the Pixel 5a. Both phones have a very similar screen size; 6.4" vs. 6.34", but why is the overall size of the phone itself a good amount smaller on the 5a than the 6? One thing I really like about my Pixel 5a is the compact size and it's all screen with very little bezel, so why is the Pixel 6 with almost the same size screen, but the phone itself is a good bit larger?

Pixel 6 = 160.4 x 75.1 x 8.2 mm
Pixel 5a = 154.9 x 73.7 x 7.6 mm

Mostly the width and height being a fair amount larger on the P6.

I suspect a lot of it is down to the camera tech.

Fire and bugs? I’ve had every iPhone except the iPhone 3g and loved them all. I’ll grant that Apple is slow to implement what Android has had for quite sometime BUT have you ever jailbroken an iPhone? It’s an amazing experience. I’ve jailbroken every iPhone I’ve owned including the iPhone 12s and it’s perfect. Granted I’m trending more towards iPads lately than iPhones I’m definitely upgrading our phones to the pro versions. BUT lol I will never say the iPhone is the best phone ever. That lies with the Samsung galaxy Note and the Fold 2. I’ve owned every note except the Note 7 I believe and I currently own the fold 2. I ordered the fold 3 and watch but i did return them because I wanted to see what all Apple and Google (HATE THE CAMERA BUMP lol) have to offer so I’m not preordering any iPhone until I know more about Googles phone (Pro only). I love to draw/sketch etc and the Note and iPads are great at that. The biggest let down for me with the fold 3 was that they couldn’t replicate the spen in the phone like on the Notes. Really? I’m dumbfounded. And the fact that even though the spen pro looks good. They couldn’t make a case that fully fits it? Wow. I might have to see what the next top tier Samsung phones have to offer in that department.

Yikes. I just learned of this last night: https://www.androidcentral.com/google-pixel-3-edl-mode-bug-bricked

Apparently a security update is bricking Pixel 3 and 3XL. My husband and I have 3XL’s. I probably have the update but my phones been out of battery and just sitting for awhile now so I don’t know if it’s been bricked. I’m glad I didn’t commit it to a trade for the Z Flip 3 as “in good working order.” I hope I can get mine on and running on Android 12 so that I can copy over my setup to the 6 Pro when I get it.

Phones on Android 12 beta seem ok. So far it’s just 3XL/3 on Android 11 from what I can see. What concerns me, besides the fact my phone may be affected, is Google’s response is basically nothing and these phones are now out of even extended warranty.

Oddly enough, my Snowball the Pixel 2 would not be affected. Someone has a generation 1 Pixel running while their 3XL is bricked. Snowball has been bricked before though, awakening after a charge, much like what’s happening with the 3XL’s. My husband fixed it somehow, so whatever the issue was, it wasn’t the same.

Pretty freaky. I wonder what’s up with the 3rd generation that it doesn’t get on with this update.

It was a pretty wonky generation. My husband loved his a lot and wouldn’t ever trade it away, though. It served him well and was his daily driver the awful year his mom passed. The call screening feature that was new at the time helped him separate calls from doctors out of all the vendor sales calls he’s inundated with.

There is a lot more complexity to the issue than just security updates on Android 11. There have indeed been Android 12 devices bricked. I went through every post I could find on reddit and there were a few scattered 12 reports.

Here’s one.

I decided that I’m going straight to Graphene so I don’t have to worry about this but people say you can disable updates in developer settings and that will stop it too.

I’m sure Spigen will find a way to make a good-looking case for it.

Thought ran through my mind to potentially thicken the phone a bit for the case and slap a secondary battery in the case that fits under the um, camera um bump maybe make a little use of the space?

I was enthusiastic about this phone previously but it's starting to wane 😕

I always go for the Tough Armor cases so I like a thick case anyway.

Hiding a flaw in design is not the answer but that does not represent the phone in it’s entirety so I’m still going to wait until it’s announced etc.

I don’t personally find it to be a flaw. It’s different. I put my phones in thick cases anyway is my point.

All I’m saying is it’s personal choice but I never said I was close to not buying the pro version. Like I said. It doesn’t represent the entire phone.
