I may decide to get the 6 pro via EE on upgrade programme so I hope we get something

Would be nice if they add in the pixel A buds or something.
Yeah I want to try their buds but only as part of a promo like with my various Samsung buds. I could kick myself for asking for AirPods Pro for Christmas. I’ve only used them a handful of times and they’ve been pretty buggy. I was surprised about that. Of course with them being an Apple product my husband bought them outright. I’m not doing that again. I’ll get something else from Amazon or stick with Samsung during preorder deals.

My last two Samsung buds have been good and were part of a preorder credits bonanza that saw me getting those buds and cases on top of getting good Samsung phones priced at over $1000 for around $400. The deals Samsung offers do keep me in the Samsung fold…er not literally. 😬

I know Google and Apple just don’t roll that way, unfortunately. I think some of what Samsung does is due to Asian cultural influence. It really struck me by surprise personally when I was in Asia and bought something, merchants would shove free merchandise into my hands on the way out. Even on Amazon I get a lot of quirky and often useful little free gifts with many of my purchases from Asian vendors.

Meanwhile Apple leads the charge on seeing how much they can strip out and still get away with charging premium prices. Which is fine. It works for them. Google seems to be going the same way. Samsung is skating on the edge but I don’t think they’re in danger of withdrawing their deals.

Can't really get a feeling for what the 6 will be like from the 5a when it'll have completely different internals.

I think it’s a matter of seeing what Google does with its old stuff to make it remain relevant and extrapolating how advanced it can make current and some already superseded hardware specs feel.

Edit: sorry my writing suffers when I multi task. By “old stuff” I mean the older camera sensor. Also the 5a is running mid range Qualcomm processor and still apparently does very well at everything Flossy tested it for. So extrapolate from that what Google may be able to achieve with a professor they’ve specifically designed to work with their software.

I’m interested in seeing what they can do with translation abilities. I really wish I’d had this technology available to me when I was in my teens and twenties and lived in and traveled in Asia. I held back from one tour I could have taken because I didn’t feel comfortable with my wretched language skills.

Edit2…ugh, typo, “processor” not “professor”.

Yeah it’s more what they can do with this 50mp main sensor. Obviously nothing is guaranteed but you would think Google’s al with these new sensors should see some impression results. Vivo latest phone has this sensor and results were pretty good so with google software who knows how good it could be.

Of course it’s going to be nothing short of amazing. Google’s going to be pushing their AI as the main selling point. If the 50MP sensor is real, Google will have the best camera phone setup in existence because of their superior AI and the 50MP number will attract those who buy into megapixel marketing. Google will absolutely be putting their tensor cores to work all around the phone.

IMHO Google has the best post processing algorithm in the business. Look at what they have done with stale camera hardware the past couple of years.
Imagine what they will do with with the hardware in the Pixel 6! I am so excited for this phone!

I haven’t gotten to use a Pixel yet but I hear it constantly repeated that Pixels don’t always produce the best results but unlike every other device, the Pixel always produces pictures that are good enough to use.

I just picked up a Pixel 4 Xl to mess around with until I can get my hands on a Pixel 6 Pro hopefully in October.

I was taking a few snaps and the picture quality is right there with my iPhone 12 Max and s21 Ultra.

I am going to install the latest Android 12 beta later today to test that as well.

Agreed, good time for this to be my first pixel me thinks…

I’m ready for a new Pixel, I have been using an XS Max and still use my busted screen Pixel 3 XL when I need to take a picture

I have been so tempted to pick up a 3 XL to mess with but I’m trying to avoid buying a $220 toy that will get shoved in a drawer in a few months. I think I’m just going to switch to Android for a year and keep my iPad Mini 5 for my iOS stuff. I have been curious about Pixels for years and Android 12 looks pretty slick.

I plan on using my P4 XL as a trade in for the Pixel 6 Pro. Even if the trade in allowance is not great it will be worth it imho.

I just wish the release date would leak!!

Mid-October from what I have been reading. Google launched the 4 on October 15th, the 3 on October 18th, and the 5 on October 15th so around there seems likely. My birthday is October 2nd so I guess a 6 Pro will be my present to myself lol.

I loved the 4XL. But the battery life eventually bothered me enough to give it up. Still had the best face unlock I've used on any phone.

Knowing Google, they'll give you about $50 for it, lol.

Lol Samsung was willing to give me $350 for my Pixel 3XL if I’d preorder the Z Flip 3. Oh it was so tempting. And not a bad idea, turn a phone that has no monetary value to speak of into a $350 trade in credit and get a phone I genuinely like at a reasonable price, which in turn will have a good trade in value in the future. But I’m just not feeling up to shelling out the few hundred for a phone I don’t have a purpose for at the moment.

I’m just checking daily for leaks on the Pixel 6 Pro. I went from pretty much writing Pixels off to rabid for rumors. :D

As you all knows I'm a big time Nexus / Pixel guy, and hate iOS. but my current phone is the iPhone 12 Pro Max, and mainly bought it to support the FLAT display and squared edge frame. This is how smartphones should be, no gimmicky curved edges, and I LOVE this flat screen, it's just great. But I'm still no fan of iOS, and can't wait to come back to stock Android, I'd never go Samsung, heck no.

But the curved edge on the Pixel 6 is scaring me away, I might actually go with the 6.4" Pixel 5a.
I'm only on page 8, so, this may have already been put out there...the Pixel 6 will be a flat screen. Only the Pro will be curved. I want the telephoto lens and 512GB option, but will likely land on the regular 6 due to the screen as well. 6.7' is not my preference either. 6.1"-6.4" is my ideal range. Currently using the 4a 5G. Perfect size for me.

Def will be my next phone - I too am veering towards the 6 rather than pro for the flat screen. 90hz over 120hz isn’t a big deal. I’ll be selling off my pixel 5 then. I just hope that they go back to having a proper earpiece / speaker on both models rather than the under screen earpiece / speaker on the pixel 5. The speakers on the pixel 5 are pretty terrible.

But which I get will come down to price at the end of the day. I would like to say with covid my spending has been more considered past 18 months … i would be kidding myself though ….

I also prefer the smaller size and flat screen. But if it’s being accurately reported that the curvature of the Pro screen is subtle like that on my S21 Ultra then I can accept that particular trade off to get the optical zoom.

I do hope the fingerprint sensor is really good. I’m also hoping someday they put the Face ID back in that I’ve seen praised on the Pixel 4 XL. But I don’t know if that was a huge battery hog or not. I stayed on the 3XL. I’m only going off what people have said about it being really good.

I’m not thrilled with the size of either of the Sixes. iPhone Mini really is my optimal size. But I manage with the 12 Pro Max and it is a tank. I’ll do fine with the Pixel 6 Pro if it’s as good as Rick Osterloh is hyping.

I surprisingly love the size of my 12 Pro Max. It actually feels small to me now. I think my ideal phone size is the size of the current Note 20 Ultra. I don’t think I’ll ever buy a phone that’s smaller than 6.7-inches. I can’t wait to try out a 6 Pro.

I posted this under the Pixel 5a thread but will post it here to make a different discussion: https://www.androidcentral.com/touchscreen-wonk-and-heat-problems-plague-some-google-pixel-5a-users

So basically what’s going on is yet another generation of Pixel hardware with some concerning issues. Namely some sort of touchscreen problem and an overheating camera thing.

Given there’s a chip shortage and it’s possible there might be a challenge getting the 6 Pro at all considering Google has always had supply shortages of one sort or another, do those of you who planned to preorder feel hesitant now and will wait to see what early adopter issues crop up, or are you planning to give it a try anyway?

I’m not sure how I feel. I have dealt with scary overheating on my iPhone 11 Pro and now on every iPhone 12 version I tried so far. I loathe dealing with overheating.

You really can’t avoid overheating with these SoCs. They don’t have proper cooling and are designed to run to their throttle point and then throttle. The touchscreen issue looks annoying though.

I personally decided to skip the 6/6 Pro and watch how Google’s QC is with it. If all goes well, I’ll probably go for a 7 next year.
