Never had a problem with screen protectors and curved screens. Probably because I can't stand them and never use them. Takes a lot of carelessness to scratch a screen these days.
Couldn't disagree more.
I've had phone screens show light scratch marks within days of being new when I have babied the phone and made sure its in a pocket on its own.
All these claims of ultra tough glass IMO only apply to screens being shattered. It's glass, it will always scratch up pretty easily.

Oh is that why people don’t like phones without flat screens? I don’t use a screen protector either. Hasn’t been an issue.
No. It's one of the reasons. Accidental touches being the biggest reason for most people not liking curved screens. Although you will also find people who say they never have a problem with accidental touches and curved screens - everyone to their own an all that. :)

That was admittedly a concern I have. I haven’t had a curved screen before but when I was helping my friend with her S7 Edge, I noticed that problem right away.

I guess I need to decide if I want to save money and go with the 5a 5G or if I want my first Pixel experience to be a flagship one like I’m used to with my 12 Pro Max. The smaller size of the 5a 5G’s screen isn’t all that appealing but the $450 price is something I can pay off the same month without dipping into savings. T-Mobile isn’t likely to have 5G here on mmWave any time soon and I’ve got like 2 years worth of free service credit with Tello which means I won’t be switching so the loss of mmWave isn’t a big deal.

Will have to see the reviews for the 6/6 Pro first and go from there I guess.

Hi all, your friendly phone nutcase is back ;)

Well as you can presume, the pixel 6 or 6 Pro (haven’t decided which I’ll eventually get) is probably the phone I am most looking forward to this fall, though like most of you will end up invariably getting the iPhone 13 pro max alongside it.

Intrigued as this will be the first pixel with the new camera sensor for a number of years. I am less enthused by the ‘tensor’ naming for the exynos partnership (especially as this isn’t meant to be as fast as the exynos in the S21 range which already falls behind the SD888). We have seen google embrace and abandon new formats and extra processing features over the last number of years.

I am currently running with an iPhone 12 pro max, Pixel 5, and a S21 Ultra (yes the MRU you know and loved is still as addicted as ever.)

In fairness, I think the tech has improved somewhat since the S7 days with the curved screens.
Accidental touches have become less prevalent, and Samsung especially have allowed users to make areas of the curve less sensitive with Good Lock (app) which has also helped.
Not sure if Google will do something similar, but definitely steps towards making it less of an issue. :)

This fills me with a great sense of joy!
I thought you had jacked the phone game in so good to hear you're still as addicted as ever. :p

I've managed to just stick with a 12 Mini since April and have been really pleased with myself but can see all of that undoing starting with the Z Flip 3. 🤓

You can take the boy out of the forum, you can’t take the forum (or the addiction to tech) out of the boy.

I loved the iPhone 12 Mini and it’s model in the iPhone 12 range I jumped on (still love the lime green) but ended up giving it to my relative & purchasing the ocean blue pro max. As ridiculous as it sounds even though the mini always got me through a day battery wise (especially since multiple lockdowns and inability to go anywhere) I still had battery anxiety with it, and so switched to the pro max myself. As stupid as it sounds I prefer to go to bed with 55% battery than 15% (and yet I know that extra battery is then redundancy).

Would truly love to try the Zfold 3 - but with my lifestyle (beach / sand) I know it just is something that would not work for me. I’d have that beauty broken within a week - even with heavy babying.

I must be lucky then. Honestly never had a single scratch to any screen and I've had my fair share of phones over the years. Pains me to see people's phones with awful looking screen protectors full of bubbles and marks because they don't look after them.

Late to the game here, but looking forward to more details on this new phone. I still am rocking (and living) the Pixel 3 lifestyle and finally ready for a refresh to my Android hardware.

Since the 3, the newer Pixel phones didn't really do anything compelling for me, and losing support for unlimited original photos on newer models was a deal killer for me. For whatever reason, even photos from my Canon EOS R that are uploaded through my Pixel 3 have not counted against my storage! 😳.

Hoping rumors of unlimited original photos coming back for the 6 is true!

Happily I live by the sea and I am on the beach at least once a day if not 3 times a day …. Sand gets inexplicably everywhere - whether in my pockets, in the car, just everywhere and I have found from years and years of experience that those pesky sand particles give any device a hard time (more than any razor blade or key test YouTube video shows) … Hence I simply wouldn’t trust myself with a foldable as much as I love the technology. Doesn’t matter if it was the rumoured Google or Apple foldable or the Z range from Samsung, I love the possibility - sadly not the practicality.

Yeah the S7E also had a ridiculously large edge screen too, it went like halfway down the side of the phone like a waterfall, this looks much more subdued.

Haha indeed!
I was not interested at all in the Mini last year on iPhone 12 launch, but ended up picking up the purple one in April and I'm surprised how much I like it.
The battery isn't good enough for me though, but with desk charging whilst WFH it does the trick.
I also find the keyboard a bit cramped and make way too many typing mistakes, which I never normally do with iPhones as I like their keyboards best usually.

The Fold is definitely not a good idea with a sandy beach...!

Bringing back to Pixel, I'd much prefer a smaller Pixel and one without a dreaded curved screen, but I think most of us on this forum just can't wait to see what those Pro cameras are going to be capable of.
In fairness, even if they hadn't have changed the sensor, I'd still be interested in the Pixel 6, just because the hardware does look like a big step up (at last). But throw in those new sensors and now I'm like a kid waiting for Christmas! :D

Yeah that is exactly the reason I am more interested in the 6 than 6 pro (flat screen) though the S21 Ultra has been surprisingly robust for me even with the spen, inspite of the curved screen.

I think its really going to boil down to price for me with the pixel 6 / 6 pro. The telephoto lens is probably the least used lens on all my devices - so the 4x lens on the pro is going to have to be special.

Though in actuality its likely going to boil down to availability which model i invariably get. :)

My 8 Plus did end up with some light scratches on it which was surprising because I babied that thing but they were only visible in the right light with the screen off. Cost me the ability to sell the phone as mint condition but didn’t do much to the resale value anyway. My XS Max had a few too but since I traded that in to Apple it didn’t make a difference.

Seeing this post made my day!

Welcome back old friend, you’ve been missed. Hope life has been treating you well.

More phones need to do this, stuff in a bigger battery and make the phone thicker, so the camera bump is barely there;

Meh on the camera bump. I am fine with it, I am also fine with thicker phones that have more battery or other good stuff in it while retaining a camera bump if it means better optics / sensors.

That said, my first cell was a Nokia 2190e, so nothing modern will ever approach the thickness of that brick! 😂

Looks like I missed the 5a announcement. Will have to look into it and compare it to it's rumored larger brothers. In some aspects it's almost a waste of cash for me to get flagships
