I finally got around to really looking at the dimensions of the 6 Pro and comparing them to that of the S21 Ultra. The S21 Ultra is a very big phone, but it’s manageable. So I’m surprised at the level of dismay I’ve seen on various comment sections at different publications and sites. The way people speak of it, I somehow got it into my head this thing was as big as the Nexus 7 tablet, which I actually quite liked. But no it’s not quite that bad. I mean I already kind of knew it was about the size of my S21 Ultra, but nevertheless I kept thinking I was going to be getting a brick. And it’s not that at all. I do think they opted to go with the slight curve on the display to also make it look and feel less slabby. I think that’s also probably the reason Samsung hasn’t totally abandoned that look for its large phones.

I’m probably going for it on preorder day. At least that’s the mindset I’m taking with me, so I can make up my mind on color and configuration, so if I decide to jump on it, I’m not sitting there waffling about my choices like I often do with my Samsung orders. 🤣

I’m not upgrading my 13 mini until a bit later, so that financial pain point is deferred. I’ve got zero clue about iPhone 13 Pro Max. I can’t wait for the keynote. I’m pretty excited about it even if I don’t preorder. I always enjoy sitting down to watch the Apple keynotes. But honestly, I always end up ordering. I may not always preorder, sometimes I’m a few weeks late, and once my husband upgraded me to iPhone 7 Plus as a surprise Christmas present. But I haven’t refrained from upgrading since the iPhone 4, which I used for 3 years because I loved it that much. I had to be dragged into trading it for the iPhone 5s. So I do have to acknowledge that shady side of my self. ;)

There was a TV program on channel 4 this evening here in the UK which was sponsored by "the new Google phone". That's all they kept referring to it as, and there were some shots of people using it but you never actually seen the screen on, just the back of it. Well, from the bits I seen, anyway.

Seems like Google are already giving this thing a bit of a push which is good. But I guess being a bit critical they need to be careful as it isn't actually out yet. So will that just cause confusion if people end up googling "new Google phone".
They never once referred to it as a Pixel or Pixel 6 ...

Either way, I'm so hyped for it. Love this Z Flip 3, but nothing compares to a Pixel experience for me. Give me my super snappy camera and my 'what song is playing' features that I miss so much when I use another device!

Are you going to sell your Z Flip?

Probably as I just can't run two phones at once. And I can't justify having one gathering dust as I use another.
If WhatsApp allowed one account over two devices and if you could have two sim cards for the same number, I'd consider it!
Haha... You just need to switch them regularly....you have a perfect combo …big Pixel slab and pocketable small phone for your choosing

Yeah that’s a pretty bad shortcoming for WhatsApp. I personally am reluctant to use anything with Zuck’s dirty hands on it. But my husband has to because of his European business contacts and that’s what they use. So if we go with a messenger service that would have been one to consider…if not for that limitation.

I’m actually using all three of my iPhones and my S21 Ultra. When I leave the house it’s just a 12 mini. But my only viable phone that’s currently gathering dust is my Pixel 3XL. I actually went back and used my Pixel 2 as a backup phone over the 3XL. I loved the 3XL display but there were some keyboard quirks and other little things. I did use it a lot for a long time though. Because I never upgraded it.

I have been using the 3XL since Wednesday and I'm pretty sold that I'm going to stick with the Pixel. Only thing I'm not a fan of is the battery life. Coming from a 12 Pro Max, it's terribad. Not sold on the 6 Pro just yet. I really don't want to fork out the money for a 6 Pro but if Best Buy gets the phone I may trade in my 12 Pro Max. We will see.

Gave my daughter my old Pixel 3 XL last year, that phone sucked for battery life, absolute garbage. But the OS and UI are super smooth running Android 12 beta 5.

Still have my old Pixel 4 XL, and running great, but that phone too has mediocre battery life and a dim screen not good outdoors, but it's a fast fluid feeling phone.

Only my new Pixel 5a has champion quality battery life, better than my iPhone 12 Pro Max battery life. And the display on this 5a gets pretty bright outside and has nice deep blacks and punchy colors. But the phone can feel ever so slightly, just barely laggy once in awhile, the 4 XL is a smoother running phone than the 5a.

I'm aiming to get the regular Pixel 6, the dimensions are exactly the same width and height as the Pixel 4 XL, which I think is the best perfect size for a phone, it's big but not extra large Plus / Max big. Plus the Pixel 6 should have great battery life for not having a high res screen or fastest refresh rate. And it will have a FLAT screen :) Rumored price of $899.

Pixel 6 Pro is just too large, and I HATE curved edge displays that it will have they say like the older Samsung Galaxy phones, big curve screen. Plus it'll cost like $1100+ no thanks.

Also Android 12 is just such a joy to use, fun OS update, so fresh and cool. My iPhone 12 Pro Max feels like some outdated old kids toy now in comparison. So happy to ditch it soon. F iOS. There's no way I'd get the iPhone 13 Pro Max, it's same lame crap iOS on it, yeah with better hardware in the 13, but so what, it's still running iOS ugh.

I doubt most people would even notice a day to day difference between a 12 Pro Max and a 13 Pro Max.

Pixel FTW :)

This is the advertising I was talking about in my earlier posts if anyone is interested. :)
Seems Google has other advertising up its sleeve which hopefully will result in some good sales for thel Pixel 6!

Honestly the battery on the 3xl is not bad for Android but between my OCD making me charge around 15-20% and take it off the charger at 80%, I end up on the charger more than I would like.

Most people don't need more than 6 hours of SoT to get through the day but I use my phone on average 11 hours a day so yeah, it is a departure from what I'm used to for sure.

I also have my game running on the iPhone still because the Android optimization is terrible on it, even lags the 855 in my LG G8. I tried it on here and it ate 18% of the battery in 26 minutes...

The battery life will get me to upgrade though even if I'm fine otherwise.

I almost forgot how bad the battery was on the 3XL. I wasn’t terribly impressed with it on the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro, either. Or my 11 Pro for that matter. I’m doing shockingly well with my two iPhone minis. I often just use the purple one all day and it makes it through fine. I was stuck at a hospital ER with my father-in-law for about 12 hours and I had to text people and make calls and surf the web and watch movies and write emails. It lasted with just a quick assist for a few percents at the car for a couple of minutes.

my 12 Pro max is okay. It better be, for how large the phone is.

Lol I’m so torn. I just got a beautiful new dress today for a fall garden party birthday I’m attending. It’s a perfect match for the coral iPhone 6. My ever sensible family has said that I should not pick a phone based on it matching my clothes. Especially since the party is likely before I’ll even see the phone. But dang, that coral one goes with a bunch of things in my wardrobe. I wish they’d given a zoom to it.

I may pick it though. I don’t know if I want to go over $1000 for the first generation of Google’s new project. But next year I can hopefully still get decent enough trade for it from somewhere, if not Google, for whatever their top tier phone is then.

My 12 Pro Max could pull 14 hours screen time when I got it and even using it heavily on iOS 15 was still getting 11-12. It was very difficult for me to kill that thing unless I did it with games. Coming from a XS Max that got like 3 1/2-4 hours, the 12 Pro Max was like a miracle.

The 3xl battery really isn't that bad. If I was doing full charge and discharge I would get 8 hours easily. On days that I need it to go with me when I leave the house, I'll just charge it to 100% and charge it twice a day otherwise. Or I could get a life and stop sitting on my phone all day but I won't push myself on my agoraphobia until the COVID cases go down some more. Being cooped up in the house, it's TV and phone... So yeah.

I actually like the size of the 3xl. I can't believe I'm saying that but I do. I may look at the regular Pixel 6.

14 hours SOT? I'm sorry but I have to call BS on this. I'd love to see a screenshot.

I don't have that one anymore because I clear my screenshots pretty often but these are from the last few weeks of betas. I have always gotten good battery but I also don't leave my house often, signal isn't bad here, I turn off 5G, I don't use Bluetooth often, same for mobile data, and I can't tolerate the screen being too bright so I keep it under 30% most of the time.

I've found with Pixels, they sometimes don't reset the battery stats when charging. So I could get 8 hours SOT, plug it in for a bit and that 8 hours doesn't reset. No phone gets 14 hours screen time. Not even close.

yeah my 12 PM gets great battery life but no where near 14 SOT in average use. Maybe shut everything off and just use wifi working from home...I don't know. I might get 7-8 hours of screen time on average.

I just never look at my SOT... just use my phone some days power usage others light... I don't ever want to turn anything off except limit back ground app usage where possible... I do check initially for idle drain when I'm into a new phone to make sure it's dialed in...

Dude I posted a screenshot showing 12 hours on a single charge on my 12 Pro Max running beta software that actually affected the battery. So yes, it does happen, just depends on your usage. I optimize my phones for battery over convenience. Smart features like Assistant/Siri are either disabled entirely or set to be triggered by button press, GPS is limited to weather and while using apps only, auto brightness is off unless I'm outside, always on wifi, etc... I have been at the maximize the battery game for many years now because I hate being tethered to a freaking cord. I also don't hesitate to boot an app that uses too much battery from my phone.

Importing phones is simple enough.
I think the issue is getting their carriers to support the phone, though. I know when my husband imported a Huawei a few years ago when they still worked in the USA, there was the issue of knowing there wouldn’t be any carrier support for it. Some bands would not be supported, too. So it’s more involved than just getting the phone into your hand.

Well, Apple SOT is misleading. Rather than go from the last full charge, they go off of the last 24 hours. So those times might include topping up the battery or using while on the charger.
