And can't wait to see the cringeworthy iSheep videos from people like iJustine unboxing her new iPhone 13 and wetting her pants in amazement and such awe and wonder over the beautiful new iPhone 13 Pro. It will be the most fantastic greatest newest iPhone ever seen. It will change your life.

LOL sad.

I think it is a solid S year. I’m shocked they didn’t have AOD, though or any of the rumored new colors. The new watches looked nothing like the leaks described. I think they are effective in rooting out their leakers.

I remain excited about the 13 mini and the iPad mini. I was pleasantly surprised they’re including USB on the iPad mini. But simultaneously dismayed it’s not on the iPhone, not even the Pro models, because I’d love to be able to connect my iPhone for data transfers, too.

There are some interesting things with pricing because trading my 12 mini 256 GB with a 13 mini 512 Gb will cost me $629. Ouch! I know that’s going from 256 GB to 512GB but that’s the model I want because it’s got to last until the bitter end if Apple doesn’t make more of them. To stay with the same capacity it’s $429.

If I want to trade my 512 GB 12 Pro Max for a 512 13 Pro, it will cost “only” $509.

To go from 512 GB Pro Max to Pro Max iwould be $609. These are buying outright and unlocked.

I wasn’t expecting upgrading capacity on the mini to cost me so dearly. Honestly I didn’t give it any thought. Well I’m not upgrading the mini anytime soon. But still…

Lol now I could trade my 12 Pro Max in for the 13 mini 512 for $239. Yeah…no not going to do that, thanks anyway Apple.

Okay Google…time to build the hype! Nobody’s leaking anything today. Drat!

lol. What does this have to do with the Pixel phones ? And no need to call anyone names because you don't like the iPhone. Grow up a little. You don't think you are going to see the same slob over yourself videos from Android fanboys about the Pixel 6 ? Well at least until all of the problems start surfacing.

At least the Pixel 6 Pro will be a massive night and day humongous upgrade over last year's Pixel 5.

Which will be something to get excited for.

Whereas iPhone 13 Max from iPhone 12 Max it's like pretty much the same phone. Zero excitement.

I wrote that other post sort of in tongue and cheek with heavy sarcasm ☺️

Unfortunately, Google's track record on quality control is notoriously unreliable. Even the rather inoffensive Pixel 5 had problems with the screen gap. Their customer service is also shocking, notwithstanding comparisons to Apple. I don't have enough faith in Google to make the leap over from iOS.

Do you really think iPhone users are leaving iMessage and Facetime? GTFO! They are NOT leaving their blue bubbles, especially in the States! Apple knows this, and has for a long time.

Having a 12 Pro max since the New Year, I still don't understand the hype for iMessage? It's a good text app, but no different to me than Telegram or WhatsApp or even Google Messages. I just don't see the big deal? My family and friends are probably 70% Android users / 30% iPhone. If that matters? And blue vs green chat bubbles? Who ****ing cares?

FaceTime? In the 9 month's I've had my iPhone, I've used FaceTime maybe 10 times, at most. I usually use Google Duo or Telegram video chat.

People like simplicity. Instead of having to download an app, create a username/password and so on, all they have to do is open up the text message app to send a message and/or video chat.

You are spot on with above reasons. And looking at previous Pixels they have not been immune to manufacturing/QC issues. So having manufacturer support is quite important for me at least.
Also i´ll add that VoLTE and Wifi calling are a few things that historically have not worked on Pixels. Granted i have not kept up with this for a couple of years so i don´t know if there has been any changes from our carriers. I.e accepting devices so that as long as they follow the standard guidelines then they are approved and works instead of carriers needing to approve and add every single device manually which has resulted in Pixels being ignored by carrier certification since they are not officially sold here.
Also CA for better 4G/LTE speeds (LTE-A) is something that historically has not worked on devices imported/not officially supported by carriers.

So sure. One can import but it is not without significant tradeoffs in my opinion.

Both VoLTE and WiFi Calling work out of the box on my Pixel 3XL which surprised me because usually MVNOs don't get provisioned right. I did have to add my MVNO's MMS APN to get that working but everything else works fine.

One thing that does irk me a bit with the new design of Android 12 and the screenshots we have seen for Pixel 6, is the icons. I like how they all adapt to fit in with your background / wallpaper, but is this system forced for ALL apps?

Or is it like an icon pack where the big / popular apps are changed to fit the design but the lesser known apps end up being a logo shoved into a random shape to match the rest of the apps as close as possible? As there's literally nothing worse to me than that.
I guess time will tell but I didn't know if anyone who has been on the beta could confirm.
This is my 3XL right now on Android 12.

Looks pretty good for the most part but clearly you can tell some icons like AOD and FirstBank weren't meant to be circular.

You have used FaceTime more in 9 months than I have in four years. I've used it once.

The only people I text from my actual number and not Google Voice are my roommates. I already went green bubble on both of them from switching to my Pixel 3XL and neither has commented even though one of them is an Apple fanboy.

Hmm so that's not really what I meant.

Looking at the image below, you can see the 4 apps on the Home Screen that are all in a particular design that match the overall aesthetic.
What I am pondering, is whether the apps in the app drawer follow the same design, and the system forces them into the same look and feel, or if some apps will end up looking ugly as sin and be similar to how some of your apps are presented. So like a square in a circle type appearance.

It could make for a lovely Home Screen and an ugly ass app drawer lol.

Google should hold a surprise keynote tomorrow. Lots of disappointed iPhone fans and tech nerds.
Fixed that for you. ;)

Let’s be honest here, uproar from a vocal minority on a fan forum doesn’t represent reality. The average iPhone consumer will be perfectly happy with these models of the phone, as they were last year and the year before when the same forum uproar occurred. This happens every year. Prices didn’t change, storage went up, there’s a bunch of color options—all the average consumer wants.

Take away last year’s physical design changes and I’d say there is more functional change this year in the Pro phones than last year. Far more camera improvements, big display changes and noticeable increase in battery life vs. last years physical body style change, less noticeable camera changes, decrease in battery and MagSafe.

You’re not the typical US iPhone user. Most US based iPhone users are surrounded by other iPhone users and don’t use third party messaging apps like you might. I have WhatsApp and I think 3 of my contacts use it and rarely at that.

Bubble colors for me only signify who I can more easily share content with.

True, good points.

My 3 siblings and I, all use Telegram now, and love it. We all dumped WhatsApp awhile back after the Facebook BS crap they're pulling with it. Telegram works great for the 4 of us, 2 are on iPhone's, and 2 on Android, 3 of us live in the States, 1 lives in Europe part-time. The one Brother living in Europe, we text each other often, just the two of us, and Telegram has been perfect, we'll use it for phone calls and video chat too.

And my immediate family, my Wife, and 2 kids, all have Pixel phones, I have the 12 Pro Max and Pixel 5a, just popped my SIM back in the 12 PM for todays Apple event LOL. I use iMessage to text them, which they all use Google Messages, and zero issues, no problems.

Yeah, I wish there was a more prevalent third party messaging app used in the US, preferably not owned by Facebook but just hasn’t happened, likely because of the high iPhone market share.

As an iPhone user (most of the time), the ubiquity of Apple Messages works out well for me but in all honesty, it does make it less likely that I’d switch away nearly my entire social ecosystem uses Apple.

Apple does make great phones with both software and hardware to match but lets be real. We are at the point where you can only do so much with a smartphone. Apple is basically acknowledging this because their upgrades are now incremental and the new feature every year is a new processor, more storage and new colors.

Google is no different as they are finally designing their own hardware and this year it's all about Material You.

I never really paid attention to the iMessage world until I saw it first hand today (I have a Note 10). I am starting a new job (in the US) and there are 17 of us in the new hire class. We decided at lunch to get a group chat together and guess who was responsible for the green bubble?!

At the end of the day a co-worker sent a video through the chat of a presentation. Someone responded/asked why the video looked like sh\t. I think we all know why so I told them to remove me from the chat. I wish the US embraced 3rd party messaging apps.

Smartphones haven't stagnated or stopped innovating. Only Apple has.

Look at the upcoming Pixel 6 compared to the Pixel 5, it's a massive night and day dramatic change. Whole new design, different size and shape, all new hardware, all new software style.

This is why I like the Pixel line, they are willing to change each and every year, with an all new Design, give us something brand new every 12 months.

That's also why I liked the Nexus line too, each and every year a different manufacturer got the chance to make a Nexus phone, with their own unique design and style, and every year we got a different phone. Some years a better phone, some years a worse phone. But it was exciting to see the new Nexus phone each year. It was never a copycat same design used for several years in row, no way, never.

I hate how Apple keeps the same overall design, for like 4 to 5 years, it's lame, boring, and shows no balls to go far out there and just try something new and fresh.

Even Samsung is willing to change their design and shape and sizes each year. Yeah the Galaxy line doesn't look night and day different each year, but they are always slightly different, never a copycat from the previous year. I appreciate that Samsung does that.

Ok, rant over. LOL :)

But all of that is also incremental. It looks different, the phone colors are different, the OS looks different but is it? Or is it just slight changes to make you think you are getting a totally new experience? I see that as just changing things up to make you think it's a whole brand new never seen before experience. Smartphones still can browse the web, take pictures, send messages, make or receive phone calls.

I'm a Pixel owner and I don't see the "this has never been done before" by the new Pixel or the latest iPhone.

Oh no! That sucks. But, dang, 16 out of 17 were an iPhone. That’s not too surprising.

Save your money so you can spend it on loved ones and create memories. You are not short of working phones. I know it is your hobby or obsession but step back this time and see how things go. Just a suggestion :)
My husband and I came up with a good plan I think works for us. I’m preordering the 13 Pro. With the trade of my 12 Pro Max that works out to a tolerable $500-ish. This will be my rather overdue 55th birthday present since we still never really celebrated.

In February I’ll be able to order the Pixel 6 if the reviews and early adopter experiences are positive. The Pixels I’ve successfully kept were bought in January or February so I feel good about keeping the Pixel as my deep winter option. The Pixel 6 can then be my (relatively) lower cost re-entry to the world of Pixels. And it would be the trade in next year that could possibly let me move up to Pro if I so choose. Originally I’d picked the Pixel 6 Pro to be the birthday phone, but my husband said he thinks Google needs to prove themselves first before we fork over anything over $500 for one. I had to agree.

In April or May, I’ll upgrade my green 12 mini to a 13 mini for Mother’s Day. Hopefully by then I’ll have seen them all in person and know what color I want. And maybe I’ll also change my mind about wanting a 512 GB one.

Gotcha. I went and turned them on (I hadn't actually explored all the options yet) and this is the result.
