Gotcha. I went and turned them on (I hadn't actually explored all the options yet) and this is the result.

Needless to say I'm turning that feature back off. 🤮
Oh noooo. This is what I was worried about...! So it only looks like it's the home screen where those apps change, and it also looks like it's only Google's own apps that change.

Well, that's disappointing. Thanks for sharing though, appreciated!

Yeah it wouldn't be so bad if I wasn't using app suggestions for the bottom bar on the home screen. I could just dump all my Google apps there and it would look fine. I like the app predictions though. The phone has already learned what I tend to use around what time and saves me some use of the app drawer.

Lack of USB-C on the new iPhone has me skipping another round of upgrades on the iOS side. I don't understand 1TB of storage (Which I would love and use for Camera downloads), but paired with ~ USB 2.5 transfer speeds. Just Nope!

Amazing that the company that invented Firewire, and adopted USB Early, still uses an antique / slow connection protocol and speed for their wired connections.

Fingers Crossed the Pixel has what I am after, and decent enough cameras that I don't miss the new camera systems on the iPhone. Will still daily drive my 11 Pro Max for iOS side, but Apple isn't getting money from me for another year with regards to cellular.

Yeah that’s infuriating especially given the iPad mini has gotten the USB port. But it doesn’t have the camera chops or the storage options that the iPhone pro models have.

There’s actually a few weird disconnects with the product line if you look closely. Like they now offer the pastel purple leather wallet case…but it only pairs with iPhone 13 models. Yet the only pastel purple phone that would have looked lovely in this case is the iPhone 12/12 mini. I think they did something similar with pastel blue cases not being offered on the actual pastel blue iPhones.

And these weird disconnects have been going on for awhile. If you wanted to unite all of your Apple products under one color scheme, if it’s not silver or grey, or possibly gold, the task can be impossible.

But Google is still in a constant state of flux, too. And I know from reading countless comments that they have confused a lot of people with the very key differences between the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro. This may bite them a little bit in a year when Apple decided to impose feature parity between the IPhone Pro and Pro Max and even distribute a few formerly pro features to its regular iPhones.

At least the Pixel 6 Pro will be a massive night and day humongous upgrade over last year's Pixel 5.

Which will be something to get excited for.

Whereas iPhone 13 Max from iPhone 12 Max it's like pretty much the same phone. Zero excitement.

I wrote that other post sort of in tongue and cheek with heavy sarcasm ☺️
Pixel 6 pro will be great and a good upgrade

this is very much an s year for sure but

120hz
better brightmess
better battery life
cinematic mode
prores
macro mode
bigger sensors
improved night mode

are all good enough improvements to not make it feel like the same phone. For many this isn’t enough but camera upgrades are the base for most new phones these days.

@GrumpyMom I wished that Google didn't follow so many of Apple's pathways with regards to services, features, and product groupings. You called it correctly, I am even confused on the different models of Pixel as well, and would likely be after the Pro Model as well.

Looking forward to the Google event, will be waiting with high levels of anticipation!

Pathetic and embarrassing that grown ass people would care about the color of their chat bubble. I don’t even think that would be considered a first world problem, that is on a whole other level of stupidity and shallowness

Looking on GMS Marena the stats on the regular Pixel 6 confuse me. I mean I understand what I’m reading. I just don’t understand why. I did not carefully consider this phone before so it’s just now that some things are leaping out at me and making me go “hmmm.”

The Pixel 6 is very close in size to my 12 Pro Max and 13 Pro Max. So they don’t have to push the feature set down so much due to it being a “smaller” phone. Because in fact it is right up there with Apple’s chonky boy that has everything.

The display has a very low ppi for example. Lower than an iPhone’s, yet iPhone isn’t known for catering to the “PPI Patrol” as Flossy calls them. I know it will look fine on the large screen because I run my S21 Ultra on lower quality sometimes. Key word being sometimes. Who doesn’t appreciate higher resolution when they can get it.

And there’s more than enough room to put the zoom camera on. This is the most frustrating omission for many people from what I can see.

I guess this phone is meant to showcase the tensor chip and Android 12 on a more affordable package. That is indeed the situation I am in, wanting to see the new stuff but trying to keep in a certain price range, so I appreciate that.

But that’s not how people seem to be looking at it. They’re like “I don’t want a gigantic phone. Why can’t I have a Pro features on the smaller chassis?” I see that constantly on the comments.

It’s confusing because Pixel has already established its more budget friendly line. What place is the Pixel 6 meant to occupy? It’s in a no man’s land as far as media attention goes. All leaks and focus is for the 6 Pro.

This is not unprecedented. Samsung routinely puts non Ultra models of its S series in a similar position. And then it really doubled down with the FE editions later. Keeping in mind they already have a budget series, I think it’s the A series. So making an FE edition of their flagship was interesting. Samsung really floods the market. I hope not to their detriment. But they cater to countries that insist on the getting tons of features at low cost, even if the features are moderate quality. So I imagine their strategy is a global one.

Google is debuting in a very limited market that wants its newest to be very premium quality and high specs. So I guess I’m questioning the 6 when they have a middle tier line. They’re copying Samsung a bit without having Samsung’s reach.

Is the Pro a new tier then? I guess that’s the point and the reason for the name change from XL to Pro.

I hope they make that point when they go to market the phone to the customers. Otherwise there will be confused people who want the smaller phone or punchier colors and are surprised it is very different in ways other than size. Especially because it’s so very big and the size of other brands’ “pro” phones.

Well these are just some of my musings, as we go into phone hype season. I have friends who are into fashion week. I barely know what that is. For me it’s all about phone season. 🤣

I think it’s more there is a concern what that means for the group when photos and videos are shared. I ran into this sometimes because not all of the parents in the group chats for school stuff had iPhones. It was no big deal, we just ended us emailing links to media or made actual attachments.

If it’s social anti Android bigotry though, yes that is weird and pathetic. I don’t know if that’s as common anymore. A few years ago it was a hot topic.

Guessing adding pro means 512GB of Storage Certainly if video recording is improved

I can resist that .

I mean I don't care about the color, but I do find iMessage to be a solid and now (finally) prime time product. SMS is based on too old of technology, and my experience RCS has been really flawed in actually delivering to people when internet is not available, and doesn't switch to SMS (or prompt you) by default.

I don't subscribe to the gimmick of extra sugar or salt to iMessage, but delivery of proper photo and video clips via a native app are really second to none (for my experience that is). Sure I could go What's app or messenger , however I don't like or want Facebook being part of my daily life more than it already is.

:Edit: To add,
If my client doesn't have iMessage, I don't send them photos outside of DropBox or Email for immediate (time sensitive) use. The compression that happens via SMS kills the quality, and I don't want my name associated with those media or web posts.

Color me shallow. ;)

Im not talking about legitimate concerns over picture and video quality, im talking about the people who are concerned about the color of the bubble
I think people just make the remarks about blue vs green bubble because they associate not being able to send/receive quality media attachments via messages with the green bubble. I'm pretty sure nobody really actually cares what color the chat bubble is.

I think that it mostly comes down to annoyances with dealing with including MMS in a group chat. Pics and videos can disappear, video ends up getting compressed for everyone even if there's only one non-iPhone, features like reactions and animations don't work, etc.
Surprised the Pixel won't have a 60hz option. 10hz would surely be annoyingly slow.
It's an LTPO panel which means it can go as low as 10hz and as high as 120hz. If you turn off the feature, it's fixed at 60hz. Otherwise it will vary based on the content.

Is this an iPhone or Pixel thread?! :p
Lot of people clutching at the 13 being a solid 'upgrade' as per usual. Believe anything Apple throws at them. 🤣

Back on Pixel though, this is a bit... Different!
Google launches potato chips in Japan, in bags the same colours of their new Pixel 6 phones!
The chips (or crisps if you're British!) hammer home thr point of this being a brand new chip.

Not sure if they plan to roll this out in other areas, but if definitely won't work in England!

Lol finally the hype machine gets going. In the UK chips are what we here in the US call fries?

I am surprised there haven’t been more leaks and sightings. I’ve seen YT videos comparing pixel 6 Pro photos to IPhone 13 Pro photos but I can’t imagine they’re legit.

This is essentially why the comment was made in our chat. It was not necessarily that there was an Android in the chat, it was the quality of anything multimedia was going to suck.

Maybe we'll get a free bag, like the cereal box with Pixel 4.

The cereal box was SO cool! So I hope they do something like that.
And @GrumpyMom that's right! We call potato chips 'crisps'. And our 'chips' are fried (or baked) potatoes that are nuch thicker than fries. We both call fries the same thing, but in the UK, chips are much thicker than fries and arguably more popular!
