Starting to wonder, if the regular Pixel 6 is $599, is it a budget type of phone, and not on par with the 6 Pro? Are there other features missing or lesser tech? Or is it only the different type of display, and everything else pretty much shared the same?

Man this phone color and design gets me so PUMPED;

The only thing lesser tech wise we know about the 6 compared to the 6 Pro is the third camera and less RAM right?

Like you said in another post.....
Just release the damn thing already! lol 😁
We’re soooo close now! I’m trying to get a lot of stuff out of the way today so I can be free to button mash! I would ask my husband to help me try to place a backup order through his Google account except I have a sneaking suspicion if he’s not stuck in a meeting, he will order one for himself.

He does that sort of thing all the time. “No no I’m not interested.” Then later: “Oh yeah my order is in. Did you get yours?” It drives me nuts that he does that, but I hope he does it. It’s more fun when we get gadgets together.

I did buy him the Pixel 3XL once, for Christmas. I had to trade my Samsung S8+ for it. He did love that phone and used it as his daily driver for a year. Lol it drove the rest of us crazy because he was a green bubble person! He would not use his iPhone. He really doesn’t like to switch back and forth the way I do.

If my vision on pwm weren’t a factor, I’d be using all my phones at different times every day. It kills me I can’t just pick up and use my 12 minis when my 13 Pro is charging. I love to switch around my phones. That is why I have them. They’re not paperweights! But stabbing eye pain is a pretty strong disincentive to do that anymore.

I’d trade my S21 Ultra to get him a Pixel 6 Pro for Christmas if mine ends up being awesome. But I don’t think this time I’ll have that option due to the shortages. We will see. I don’t want to give up the s21 ultra. Which is why I’m not doing it tomorrow. But for him, yeah I’d do that.

The displays are different. The resolution or ppi is less. And there’s a lower maximum refresh rate.

I read one article somewhere that the 6 display may be a cheaper kind of tech that’s a little bit more fragile than the one used for the 6 Pro. Hence the wider bezels. But I’m sorry I don’t remember where that was and it was just speculation anyway.

Only thing I wish the regular Pixel 6 had was the LPTO 120hz display, from what I've read the Pixel 6 will have a 90hz 1080p screen, and the Pixel 6 Pro pretty much the same screen tech as the iPhone 13 Pro line, manufactured by Samsung.

Does 12GB vs 8GB RAM make a real world difference in the UI smoothness?

Battery size doesn't matter as much, as the Pixel 6 will have a lower res screen, so that's a wash.

Front camera is meaningless to me.

As long as orders are placed within a couple of hours, I can't see any of the Pixels being on a huge backorder. And then it tends to be the most sought after colours like the Sage 5 or Orange 4/4XL.

I'll have the Google store, Amazon & CPW webpages open during the event and will be amazed if I can't get the configuration I want.

It's true, the Notchbook Pro LIVES 🤣 🤣 🤣
I haven’t looked at any of the news. So there really is a notch on a laptop?

I’m at a loss for words on that.
Anyway moving right along, assuming I will have a choice…what color 6 Pro should I go for first? I really can’t pick a favorite. There’s something I like about each one.

Which one do you all think will be least sought after?

Edit: I just looked. Okay the notch is a thing. Sigh. Well at least it sounds like the thermals will be fantastic! My 2011 MBP got sat on these things you put in the fridge for sore muscles. That’s how I kept it cool when the fan stand I bought for it couldn’t do the job when I’d play Sims on it. So I appreciate any improvements they can make for that. There. I said something nice. That’s my good deed for the day. Lol.

After the letdown of Apple's Event (I was hoping for a new Mac Mini), it's on to Google's Event. Hoping for some official pricing as well as trade in pricing. Hopefully i'm tempted enough to trade in one of my Pixel 4a or 4a 5G phones towards a 6 Pro. I'm just not digging any of the Retro 50's color combinations so boring black might be my only option.

Notch or no notch, it looks a beast of a machine with unrivalled battery life.

Now let's see Google deliver tomorrow.
Yeah…some really big upgrades vs. their predecessors and I understand that Apple doesn’t really play in the ‘affordable pool’ but WOW are they pricey.

And the hystrionics about the notch are mostly lost on me. I don’t use my applications in full screen but do a lot of split screen which on my current Mac would utilize that space. The trade off of have not having to have an even larger machine to accommodate a bigger top bezel is worth it for me. Of course YMMV.

All that being said, too rich for my blood as I don’t need a powerful laptop—or any laptop for that matter at the moment.

And while I have no intention of picking a Pixel up this year either, I’m excited to see what Google unveils tomorrow. Believe it or not, I’d love to see some new Nest Wifis that support wifi 6. My Google wifis have served me well but are do for an upgrade and I could use a refreshed systems that can support more devices. Between me, my wife, my 3 teenage kids and all of the smart home **** I have, I have a ton of devices running on the network.

The more I keep putting my S21 Ultra in the Pixel 6pro case the more It seems the Pixel 6 pro will be a nice form factor like the S21U.
I wonder how much Samsung helped in this design?

Was unimpressed with the Apple event. IMHO the notched design is a step backwards in laptop design.
There are way too many out there that do not have to have a notch to have a big beautiful full screen.
Dell comes to mind first...

Btw, that is your opinion which I totally get and respect but:

Notches and hole punches certainly are not lost on me. I own Macs but don't own any Mac laptops but I do Windows laptops and I can envision copycat PC vendors putting hideous notches on their laptop displays. I don't understand Apple's desire to put that on a screen when every laptop or notebook got away from using it by adding it to the upper frame of the display lid.

I think hole punches are also dumb but then again i'm not a selfie user. Some Honor phones used a popup camera if a person wanted to take selfie pictures. The M1 Pro and M1X both look impressive but those are some steep prices.

Is Google's event tomorrow?

I'm still extremely skeptical on the $599 price for the Pixel 6, seems too good to be true. I mean last years Pixel 5 started at $699, and the Pixel 6 seems like it's a significantly better phone by a big margin, but will cost a hundred bucks less?

I guess we'll know tomorrow.

I'm still saying it will be more than the Pixel 5's $699, but would love to be wrong :)

and it doesn't even have a touchscreen......

I’m certainly not a notch advocate by any stretch but I guess I’m just not that put off by it. That being said, it feels like it’s wider across than it needs to be to house just the front facing camera. If FaceID was there I guess I‘d be a bigger advocate but again, that’s screen real estate I generally don’t use so if it means the screen is larger without having to add the corresponding amount to the height of the entire laptop (would impact the width of both the top and bottom case), I’m OK with it.

As far as other PC vendors deciding to copy it, that’s on them. Getting upset with Apple for that doesn’t make any sense.

Alright, won’t derail any further into a MBP discussion. Yes, the Google event is tomorrow.

I think it actually makes sense.

Remember, this is a completely new team going in a new direction. Up to this point, the Pixel line basically loses Google money because they dont sell enough of them vs the cost to make. Which these new prices, they will certainly lose money in the short game, especially with the cost of Tensor development. But, having a custom SoC tells me they are playing the long game. And for the long game, it makes tons of sense to undercut Apple and Samsung for the first couple of years to build up a customer base and get them hooked on the camera and software. It also helps flush out issues with their chipset. Then slowly they raise cost and start getting more profitable.

Plus, as everyone knows, the Pixel hardware isnt where Google is making their money. This is another chance for them to spread their services (and ugh, collect data) which is where Google really makes the big bucks.

Why the heck would they put a notch on a laptop?

Makes it easier to mount the electrical tape across the built in front facing camera lol 🤣 🙃

So unsure about about the new pixels. Had my pixel 4 xl just drop connection while sitting. My XL 2 often drops connection sometimes needing a reboot. Never seen mobile connection just drop as much as I have with Nexus pixel devices. Doesn't seem to matter what network I'm on.

Pricing got to be right for me to go for it I guess. Maybe waiting for 6a? 🤔

If the 256gb Pro really is £949, that's a great price. Hopefully I'm surprised, but I would expect that to come in at around £1100.

May be a notch - but the Menubar will be coded around it and full screen apps will have an artificial top bezel to ‘hide’ it.

There's a photo making it's rounds on Twitter that's been retweeted by some reliable leakers showing the Pixel pricing in the US. Take this with a big grain of salt because the price seems way too low. But there's a photo of Target shelves being prepped and they show...

Pixel 6 - starting at $599
Pixel 6 Pro - starting at $899

Make of that what you will.
I've thinking about pricing and in my opinion those prices are actually fair for the following reasons:

1. Google doesn't have a track record of releasing flagship or multiple phones like Apple and Samsung.
2. Google doesn't have the hardware ecosystem like Apple and Samsung (tablets, watches, computers, TV's).
3. Google doesn't have the support network like Apple and Samsung.
4. Google's new Tensor chip is an unknown quantity at this point.
5. Google releases its phones very late in the year.
6. Because of the above reasons, Google's phones depreciate much faster than Apple or Samsung.

Because of the above reasons, I'm not willing to pay more than US$1,000 for a 256 GB Pixel 6 Pro. Any higher than that and I'll just find a deal on a Samsung S21 Ultra and wait for eSIM implementation with Android 12.

I don't care how much Pixels depreciate compared to other phones. It's a phone I want and whatever the price will be worth it to me.
