I don't see a less power hungry chip a reason to be disappointed. No phone will tick every box for everyone.

We have no way of knowing if it's less power hungry. Just taking a guess. But the disappointment is that Google is calling this a "Pro" device but are not putting as powerful a chip as rival (and similarly priced devices). If you want to cut corners, price it accordingly. For $1k, a non flagship chip is not acceptable. But I'll wait until I see the optimization before I pass total judgement.

Are these rumors true of the 6 XL having a 120hz display and 5,000mAh battery? That'd be amazing.

As far as it not having a super duper processor, don't care. As long as it's energy efficient and cool running, that's most important. I'm sure Google will make sure it's smooth and fluid for the OS.

Just when I start getting my hopes up, it sounding like Google is going to pull another...Google. Apparently the new Google whitechapel SOC is on par with the Snapdragon 780G. Which Im sure will still be plenty fast with their optimization, but any hopes of Google creating a top tier chipset is on hold at least for now. Oh and the Pro will apparently be $949 and have 8GB of RAM and 128GB of non-expandable storage.

So...Google still hasnt learned from their previous mistakes. Still doing the bare minimum to be passable as a flagship. The storage amount is really disappointing for a flagship phone.

Where did you see that the Whitechapel SOC would be on par with the Snapdragon 780G?

This article from a few weeks ago says it will match the Snapdragon 870. Not quite 888 levels but more than good enough imo.

I'd take any info on chip specs with a pinch of salt. This article mentions plenty different ones and who knows which rumour will be more accurate. It looks like the one about it being on par with the 780g is purely a guess based on what was in the Pixel 5.

Fairly reputable leaker on Twitter (theGalox) said it will be on par with the 780G. When asked about reports that it would be on par with SD 870 he said slower than the 870 but 10% faster than the 860.

I know it’s such a minor thing but I’m so happy they’ve decided to use Product Sans for the text underneath their apps on the homescreen for Android 12.

So you’re going to tell me I don’t like Samsung’s skin, and that they’re pushing updates to all their phones as quickly as Google does to Pixel?
Samsung's UI has changed drastically from what it was 3-4 years ago.

And as far as updates, Samsung flagship phones are typically updated less than a month behind Pixel phones for security updates and usually within 2 months are OS updates.

If they made a Google version of the S21 Ultra I’d be all over that.

Tech people have been asking for this for ages. The problem is, the average consumer doesn't care about this so there's no incentive from either company. I'm hoping this new Pixel 6 Pro at least gets it close.

Be nice if Google used a wider field of view for their ultra wide. Was pretty disappointing compared to the iPhone & Galaxy line (and probably most other phones).

Issue is the market just isn’t there to make them high end and google simply don’t care too much about it. Will see what this year holds though.

Specs look pretty decent depending on how powerful the Google chipset is.

Also, sounds like Google will start supporting Pixel devices for 5 years which is solid.
The chipset is largely irrelevant imo, it's going to be more powerful than the 765 which was more than adequate for 99% of users.

My Pixel 5 has been pretty flawless for how I use a phone, not once have I thought that I need more power. Granted I don't do any intensive tasks on my phone though.

6.4" seems quite big for the smaller version. It doesn't bother me, but I'm sure those who like smaller phones will be put off. It's bigger than previous XL phones.

The Pro will be a day 1 purchase for me. I've missed having a Pixel, so having the biggest version they've done of it, along with good storage sizes, new camera sensor (and finally 3 of them) and an update to Android all sounds good to me.

Yeah, I'm definitely staying on Apple, but I think I might buy one after the initial rush and try it out and either sell it or use my return window.

Well so far it’s shaping up to be very interesting. Iphone 13 rumors are a snooze fest. That being said, I’m planning on getting a 13 mini, while also hanging onto and using my purple 12 mini until it can’t keep up. But it won’t be a preorder purchase. I’ll jump on it next spring and trade my green mini for it. With Apple producing the purple late in the game and addressing some of the display problems that are evident in my launch day phones, I now feel a bit wary of preordering iPhones and am changing my iPhone buying schedule to mid-season.

Samsung preorders seem to remain a good deal because of their deals, but I’m fine with my S21 Ultra as it is and for what I use it for, which is my entertainment center. I’m going to save myself some money this year and keep it. I’m still in love with the stealth black and the display is gorgeous. It runs well. The cameras are fine. The zoom works well. I’ve got no trouble with the finger print sensor. There appears to be some sort of crack inside one of the camera lens but it hasn’t affected the pictures as far as I can tell.

I’m currently running my S21 Ultra on WiFi and my 12 Pro Max on WiFi. Two minis on AT&T. Pixel 3XL is kept updated but rarely used.

I’ll be eating up all the Pixel 6 news. But realistically my 12 minis have made me extremely happy. My S21 Ultra is my fantastic big screen phone. I appreciated the cameras on my 12 Pro Max and still use the 2.5 x zoom in tricky situations, but I probably don’t really need this phone and wasted my money. I didn’t know at the time I bought it that I’d adjust to the 12 mini display and stop suffering bad pwm effects on the smaller model that I prefer. I’m probably going to hold onto the 12 Pro max for trade for iPhone 14.

I’m not a big phone person after all, so I don’t know if the Pixel 6 will be something I ever go for. But yeah the rumors are lots of fun to contemplate and I do think the quirky looks of the leaked renders are definitely very much in character. Like the rest of you, I’m leery of throwing money at an untested Google design. I think it’s going to be a no for me, but I am interested in how it turns out.
