I think I might be interested in picking up an XL version of the device, not sure to run as primary or secondary. Might go ahead and *groans* grab an s21 ultra both to keep for a while

I know people are freaking out a little thinking what google software could do with a brand new sensor. Certainly a 50mp. Could it destroy the comp camera wise at least in the android space? I really hope all these rumours are true. And they market it as such

It's not about destroying the competition (personally I hate when people say that because it NEVER applies). It's about Google taking their excellent camera & top notch camera AI software and finally applying it to a new & improved sensor.

Hopefully taking it up a level & possibly pulling ahead of the competition a little. Whch in turn will cause other manufacturers to up their game.

 dudes, of course I’m a phone nut!

I’m just not as fanatic for the big phones!

😆 I’m a big little phone person! I don’t tend to keep my big phones past a year, but I grow ridiculously fond of my small phones. Snowball the Pixel 2 had an unexpectedly long run of 3 years. I’m actually regretting decommissioning it.

I carry my purple IPhone mini around like a toddler carries their favorite stuffed animal. It’s been practically glued to my hand since I got it for Mother’s Day, even if I’m not using it, I like looking at the purple.

I like my green mini a lot, too. I switch between them. I would keep it, but the display is noticeably inferior, especially in low light, compared to the one on my purple mini. So it will be traded for a 13 mini next spring.

So why buy the biggest iPhone available and the biggest Samsung available?
Because I don’t use a desktop or laptop computer anymore, except for gaming. (Mainly because it’s become the family computer). I used to use an iPad mini but the big phones have gotten so big now that they’re what I use in place of a tablet.

I got the 12 Pro Max also because at the time, the pwm effects of the smaller iPhones was smashing my nervous system with eye and headaches. It was the only iPhone I could comfortably use for a very long time.

I was using my first mini just as a phone and to quickly check texts. It was always my preferred size for a phone but the pwm was worse on it. Somehow, unexpectedly, over time, I noticed I no longer was suffering headaches when using my first mini. I started using my 12 Pro max less. Then Apple released a mini in purple and I got it for Mother’s Day.

I don’t hate big phones. I’m always going to use them, assuming they’re always going to be available. I don’t enjoy watching big screen TVs and prefer to watch movies and shows on my phones, so I’m always going to have a use for them.

Given that:

  1. Android OS is portable to any hardware you like, so long as you're willing to put in the effort to ensure compatibility and you are the one compiling it; and
  2. The end user's experience completely depends upon who's hardware they're buying

I honestly don't see Google putting out their own CPU as being all that meaningful here.

Using someone else's CPU means paying royalties or licensing fees, rolling your own? Don't think so? Also you can design the chip to use the instructions you want and how, not someone else's who may have extra instructions you don't need?

Also Google is trying to become Apple (not meaning that in a bad way here). Also there is fuchsia to think about?

I think custom Google soc might be interesting

My only want for this phone is to come out before the next Pro Max iPhone so I can get a better price for my current phone. Not likely though unless Apple delay their bigger phones until November again.

Still a day 1 purchase for me. Especially with all the huge stock issues of a lot of tech products.

Might be my first day 1 Pixel purchase. Still nervous about SoC performance but I think this has the most potential of any phone in 2021. Nothing else is exciting this year beside maybe the Fold 3. But that seems like a incremental update to the Fold 2.

This phone looks really interesting. Love the design and the colors (mostly I'm really liking Android 12). Tbh it's interesting me more than iPhone and iOS right now. Obviously we haven't seen iPhone 13 yet but if it's anything like iOS 15...eh...

This is the first Android phone I'd actually think about buying.

Well, iOS 15 is pretty much set. The only software enhancements that iOS 15 is potentially holding back for the upcoming iPhone is AOD, but not entirely sure Apple will introduce it. At this point, the only feature that’s likely to come to the iPhone is ProMotion.

I‘m only interested in what kind of camera processing is behind that Pixel 6/6 Pro and I’m hoping Samsung will be taking notes for the Fold 4.

Looks awesome. Too invested in Apple to make a switch at this point, but looks like Google is really bringing it this year.
Same. I’m committed to the Apple ecosystem (voluntarily, not ‘locked in’ 😉) so as great as this has the potential to be, I won’t be switching. Excited to see what Google has up their sleeve though.

Gotta knock off a few points for that camera bar, however I think I'm interested in this giant pro slab. I'm guessing it's going to top out at 1250 at 256gb? 😳 😖

Actually a bit excited for pixels again

Sounds very promising but a few turn offs like the curved edge screen, is a big no-no, I'd much rather they go completely flat display like the iPhone 12 line.

And the very strange design of the back of this phone, just not feeling it, looks so fragile and breakable. I know I’ll put a case on it, but even then it seems like it would be a big bulky phone and even weird to put a case around that with that camera bar in the middle protruding out, just seems like an awkward design not comfortable.

Why can't they keep it simple? Pixel 4 XL was beautiful, minimalist design, just get rid of the forehead. And then the Pixel 5 being very symmetrical with the display covering the entire phone, and little to no bezel, and the back of the phone was clean and simple. I wish they just keep the 4 XL and 5 design rolling forward, a mix of the Pixel 4 XL + Pixel 5 would be just fine.

Agreed

Competition is always good
Although like everything, there is always something off for my preferred model. If I was buying one, it would absolutely be the Pixel Pro as I use the telephoto lens all the time and love me a big phone. Of course, it’s the one with the curved screen—probably the gimmick I hate the most on a smartphone.

This is probably the closest Google has gotten to making the “Android iPhone”.

I will be very interested to see how much of Google’s ML processing can be done on-device exclusively. Getting the power of Google’s ML technology completely on device and offline will be very enticing for privacy conscious folk. I purchase Apple products for the integration of the ecosystem, so this phone isn’t for me, but I will admit the Pixel becomes more and more interesting every year.

Will be interested in the hands-on and over time as well, since the build quality of the last few Pixels have been…questionable.
