After watching videos from the Verge and MBKHD I am getting hyped for the Pixel Pro 6. Looks like google is going for it…. to compete in the high end smartphone space.

There was a time when google leapfrogged ahead of everyone in smartphone photography. Let’s if they can do it again with photography and video. The new Tenzor chip might be a game changer. Much like the M1 chip has been for Apple in speed and battery life.

Can’t wait for more information!!

Good do see Google actually offering some competition. Not sure about the 'Google' chip given that the CPU and GPU aren't designed by Google.

Aside from under display finger print reading Apple absolutely wipes the floor with Google.

That's contender for two of the best looking and unique designs of 2021 along with Galaxy S21 Ultra. Cream two tone really stands out that you're holding the smartest device with white another favorite.

If the upcoming google chip isn’t close to a flagship processor, the phone will be dead on arrival with the flagship prices they’re charging for it.

this will be different,” says Osterloh. He also admits that “it will certainly be a premium-priced product,” which I take to mean north of $1,000.

I have a feeling that the Tensor chip ultimate goal is to create a laptop chip for Chromebooks. Google is barely selling any Pixel phones in very few markets, so it is strange to design such chip for phones. My guess is there's a plan for Chromebooks to flex its muscles, considering that Windows right now is in an awkward transition, with intel stagnating and Microsoft is still developing the ARM version.

My country's education minister has just announced a national educational laptop program, and their OS of choice is ChromeOS, not Windows. Of course, ironically, Chromebooks are not even widely available in the consumer market in my country. Thus Google definitely wants larger foothold for ChromeOS/Chromebooks.

Wonder if they're going to walk the talk with the 'inclusivity' when it comes to pricing which means <$1K but hopefully more like $899 for the Pro model and $699 for the non-Pro.

Until they start selling their phones in more countries they are going nowhere fast unfortunately
In addition to that, they need more carrier support to market their phones. In the US… whenever I see deals on Pixels, it comes from Verizon. Perhaps, Google have exclusivity with them. But without more major carriers backing Pixel devices… they will continue to come short in gaining traction.

Good points. Google is strange with how they sell the Pixel phones here in the U.S. and Carriers. For awhile Verizon had the exclusive, then they add T-Mobile, but now T-Mobile doesn't even list them on their site, and going into a store there's no Pixel displays or advertisements for them.

But I thought like with the Pixel 4 release that Google finally added all 4 U.S. carriers at the time to carry and sell the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL, it was to be sold in stores at; Verizon, T-Mobile, ATT, and Sprint at the time. But that seemed very short lived.

Right now ATT has zero Pixel phones, nothing. T-Mobile nothing. Sprint is gone. Seems only Verizon sells them now?

but you can get them from Google and Bestbuy. I think the target audience will not have a problem buying a Pixel.

The more i read about this phone the more hyped I get.

It's maybe a little strange, but Google don't seem to care too much about how many Pixels they sell.

And unlike some weirdly obsessed iPhone fanatics on here, I don't care how many or how few phones they sell. As long as they keep making phones I like, I'll keep buying them.

yeah they are a strange company for sure when it comes to selling phones lol. But they did warn on the investors call that they were going to spend big time to market and promote the Pixel 6

Not really interested in these phones but might be interested in trying out the eventual Pixel 6A and modding it to strip out as many Google services as possible via microG, Lineage, or something along those lines.

Very very clever from Google. They know iPhones and the Samsung foldables will probably be out before their devices, so they are drip feeding info to tell people exactly what’s coming.

I think it’s brilliant. Certainly makes me pause for thought over jumping in on an iPhone upgrade when I know the Pixel 6 will be right around the corner, and I know it’s going to be a flagship device. 👍🏼

Everything seems promising so far. Should the rumoured specs and 5 year support be true, this could mean a much stronger Android competitor to the iPhone and a device that could easily dethrone Samsung.

I totally agree I always buy my Pixel phones directly from the Google store, never a carrier.

My point was more thinking that if Google wants to make a bigger presence in the smartphone market they need to sell these phones just like Samsung and Apple which are easily available on every carrier through a payment plan or whatever they call it today.

I totally agree with you. I think some carriers like TMO saw small Google phone sales in the past. So they are hesitant to carry another one.
But from what I have seen the last year or so from Google is...they kinda took the some time off from really developing Pixel phones. But that is supposed to change this year as they go all out with the Pixel 6.
It will be interesting to see if Google gets a couple carriers to participate this year and carry the Pixel 6.

Maybe if they step up their marketing and sales shoot up as a result... I honestly don't get the appeal of Samsung aside from how accessible they are (with everyone selling them and the many different ways you can buy them). To me, their flagships today feel like they're stuck in the 2010s and they seem to be cutting more corners while raising the prices each year. I think their cheaper options are still good values but the flagships peaked at the Note 9 IMO. I keep using the analogy that the iPhone is the Toyota Camry of smartphones and the Pixel 6 seems like it's shaping up to be the Honda Accord. Today's Samsung flagships just feel like luxury cars on older platforms where they add some features to keep them relevant, cut some corners and raise the prices while they're at it.

When did T-Mobile officially start advertising the Pixel line? I know it was very recent, maybe the Pixel 4 line, or Pixel 5 last year? But look on T-Mobile site now, there's zero mention of Google Pixel phones. They are non existent and not available through T-Mobile currently.

Checked ATT and surprisingly they do sell the Pixel 5. As does Verizon. So it seems just Verizon and AT&T sell the Pixel 5 in store and have stock readily available.

The reason Samsung Galaxy phones are so popular, is because Samsung spends a crap load of money for advertising, like a HUGE amount of money. It's not because they make great phones, I honestly think Galaxy phones are just so so, and I would never buy one myself. I'd take a Pixel or OnePlus before a Galaxy, or even a iPhone.

That brings up another point, how the hell is Google losing to OnePlus LOL. Google is a gigantic corporation with a very big name, but along comes little OnePlus and in like 5 years they are sold in U.S. Carrier stores and making a big presence, where the Pixel line is on life support.

Cheering from the sidelines over here. I want nothing more than for Google to really get it together with their phones and break through in the market, to add some diversity to what is essentially a duopoly of Apple and Samsung. Also I've always loved the cleanness inside and out/software + hardware of Google phones.

Speaking as someone living in Sweden however, over here they'll remain a curiosity for dedicated enthusiasts until they make a real push with marketing, and above all availability through carriers. Practically everyone buys their phone through a carrier here. And even if I wanted to buy it direct from a Google Store, guess what - they've never even sold Pixels through their store here. I've had to get one through the Germany store, and of course that'll put many off including myself because it brings legitimate doubt concerning customer service.

Same situation here in Finland.

If Google can nail the marketing, the duopoly may eventually be them and Apple. Samsung would only have an advantage if the market starts trending hard towards foldables.

Maybe a ways down the line, but Google would have to do a lot more than just nail the marketing for that to happen I think. Samsung has to have a huge logistics machine in place for their mobile division, and they're extremely versatile with phone models for all markets/price ranges, as well as tablets, support, chip and display production etc etc. Google has only dipped their toes in the actual phone business so far. Of course as far as the software is concerned their involvement runs deeper than anyone else's except for Apple and I guess they could use that to their advantage. But first up let's see if they show any serious intent at all this time around with the Pixel 6.
