I hate that all the reviews are going to drop in the middle of my meetings. We’re about to find out how well I can focus!
I will have the same issue! 2022 budget season, setting up calendars for 2022, and travel for my remaining work trips for the year, all tomorrow.

Thankfully I avoid the YouTube fodder, and have my select sites to watch and podcasts that I will egarly await to drop. Most excited to listen live to All About Android, as 3 presenters had Pixels last week before the event, and will finally be able to discuss the details on using the devices. I like that group, but am a long time listener to the show.

I can’t watch any videos at the moment but the comments and photo samples look promising.

I hope the display is easier on me than my 13 Pro’s. Moving right along…

So far in my personal checklist, stereo audio on videos sounds good in samples I’ve looked at.

Pre embargo photos and videos have been more than acceptable! Colors look punchy but not ridiculous. I’m reminded of Fujifilm a little.

I’ve read that battery has been similar to that of the Pixel 4XL and that’s while doing the usual first days battery hogging set up stuff. So it’s going to be better after settling down.

I’ve read preliminary reports of top performance from the Mali gpu. I was wondering because I’ve been used to Adreno in my Samsungs being quite good.

Modem performance was good.

Sorry I don’t have source links because this was my usual bedtime reading.

I've just been in to Carphone Warehouse (UK) and had hands on with the new Pixels and have decided to order the regular Pixel 6. I will return the Pro when it arrives on the 27th.

The curve on the screen of the Pixel 6 Pro is more pronounced than on the S21 Ultra and it reflects the light quite badly - it's a big no from me.

If those video samples are legit then Google have stepped up their video game a gazillion percent. Wow.
Agreed!

Though a vertical video from a seated position isn’t really taxing the system. I am looking forward to completing some tests of my own in the coming weeks. I have a couple tests that I want to complete, and a video project for a client where I may be able to sneak in some pixel footage if it is up to the task! :)

Pixel 6 Pro vs Iphone 13 Pro Max
Ok I’m only a few comparisons in and I have to stop because I’m yelling at the guy. The macro comparison: they’re both fine. iPhone had the slight edge in one of the photos. I don’t see what he’s seeing on my 13 Pro display anyway. Maybe I need to see this on a good computer monitor, which I currently don’t have set up.

Then when he’s criticizing the zoom on the 13 Pro Max, again it’s not that bad. To me the differences are not as dramatic as his comments make it seem. Maybe I need to finish my coffee. He’s making me grumpy. And I like this channel, usually.

In happy news, my Apple Series 7 Watch is on its way. It’s going to be an exciting couple of weeks for me with tech!

I stopped when he “compared” zoom of the two using the iPhone’s 3x optical zoom against the Pixel’s 3x digital zoom. If you don’t know the difference in optical and digital then you are not the greatest source for camera comparisons.

I spent some more time with these phones over the weekend in the store and I'm torn again on which to go with. The regular 6 is an amazing deal at $599 and isn't THAT much worse than the Pro. I don't use the zoom a ton on my iPhone and will still keep it so I'm not sure the zoom is a must have on the pixel. Then again, on the other hand the Pro has those nice little extras and I do like having the best of the best.

To me the regular 6 is more like a traditional Pixel in look and feel, and the Pro is like a high end Samsung, but running the cleaner (more stock) version of Android, which is what many of us had hoped Samsung/Google would bring back. It really does feel like a Note.

I've ordered cases and screen protectors for both phones, just in case. I bought LK brand screen protectors and got in on that deal from Verizon for the official cases for the Pixels.

My plan right now is to watch a ton of videos once the embargo lifts and see if that helps my decision at all.

That's worrisome to read. Not sure I'll like myC loudy White Pixel 6 Pro now.

Actually watched this one. The Macro mode he was spot on, when you do a 100% crop (which he did) the detail on the coin was far better on the iPhone. I also am not a fan with how the Pixel saturates the colors and seems to overboost shadows in the photos. It is the photographer in me, but I prefer real to life images, and let me boost using tools in post.

Thankfully we can change the default Camera app on Android, so it isn’t as bad as if the iPhone did this, so no points lost to Pixel for me here.

I agree on the Digital v.s. optical zoom, he didn’t do that right.

I didn’t like the Pixel audio quality on the stream video or his studio talking as compared to the iPhone, but happy with what I saw from the video quality on the pixel overall. I too think (in his examples) it is behind what the iPhone is doing, but not by that much.

Both ”Cinematic” modes (either phone) are just a gimmick to me. I don’t like the one on Apple (I have a 13 pro), and doubt I would touch it on the Pixel either.

One thing that slightly bothers me about alot of night photos I'm seeing is the phones process them to look like daytime photos almost. I want it to look like how I see it. Not just turn the night time / dark shots into daytime / bright shots. I see a lot of crapping on the iPhone for not lighting up the night shots enough, but sometimes they shouldn't all be lit up unnaturally.

It does get better. He’s got some good photo samples. He’s trying to be neutral in his assessments. I just think his choice of words in the beginning are a bit extreme. Macro isn’t even a touted feature on the Pixel so I was shocked it performed at all, let alone as well as it did. And extreme zoom isn’t a feature of the iPhone and again, it delivered quite well. So basically if you choose one or the other you’re not suffering a tremendous loss of advantage. You’ll get good looking photos in a variety of circumstances. But hearing him say oh it’s terrible or blurry…I’m just

Yeah it got better for sure.

I agree with him on some things, but also question his technique like you two pointed out.

I also never take video in Portrait orentation and never test that way myself. I can’t detect walking bounce on my 13 Pro in proper landscape mode, I bet the Pixel would do better in that mode too.

I am interested in seeing if the boosting of the shadows is going to help better balance photos of dark skinned people and dark furred animals surrounded by a bright background or backlighting. Sometimes the photos I’m getting can end up looking like silhouettes! But my eyes in real life can still see facial features just fine. So it can be frustrating.

iPhone 12 series actually wasn’t too bad though it erred on the side of over brightening some shadow details. I’ve noticed iPhone 13 Pro max does tend to not just preserve shadows but unfortunately sometimes seems to deepen them more than met the human eye at the time and therefore obscures some details in shadows. An update that brings the balance to the middle point would be welcome.
