It's FPV (first person view) drone flying so there's a camera on the drone separate from attached phone that feeds the view to his head mounted goggles. That flying is actually kind of tame.
Right small window is FPV and main is drone local storage recording.
Oh I know I’m just kidding because I know some guys into flying drones whenever they can spare the time, and a lot of them, most especially one “Charlie Brown”, are paranoid about trees.
Okay change of subject here. Something happened this evening that put all these YT camera tests into perspective for me.
I came back from an awards ceremony at school a few hours ago. iPhone 13 Pro and Pro max let my husband and me down big time.
These camera tests don’t mean jack.
When it came to real life and the chance to preserve a very important memory, our iPhones tanked. Failed. Forget Cinematic mode crap. Forget dynamic HDR. We ended up with photos that photos that my old iPhone 7 Plus could shame.
We both had focusing problems because the people sitting in front of us kept confusing the focusing system on the 13 Pros I guess. We’ve been going to these things the past 12 years or so.
We’ve been to this particular auditorium before. We’ve never had any issues like this with iPhones or Samsungs. I’ve photographed and video recorded (when permitted, I’m not rude) these sorts of events every year. This auditorium was wonderful. There was plenty of lighting, it was bright and clear.
My husband said night mode kept trying to kick on.
I could focus on part of the stage but not change focus when I panned to another person standing a few feet away. I gave up and tried to focus back to where my own child was going to be, and it almost didn’t make it.
I believe it has to be the LiDAR. I’ve noticed some screwy things happening with focusing and they only have happened on the iPhones with LiDAR.
Yes we are getting fabulous portraits with fake bokeh thanks to LiDAR. But I’m running into some screwy situations sometimes.
Unfortunately I didn’t have my Samsung with me to see how it would have done. I didn’t think I’d need it. I’ve never had reason to not trust an iPhone to handle this sort of thing before.
Fortunately we had friends with us who have older iPhones and they got the photos we missed. Though a lot of theirs were blurry too. But amongst all of us we managed to compile a decent photo album of our childrens’ special evening.
