FYI, those missing the rear finger print scanner and being able to swipe on it for notifications...
If you enable quick tap via Settings - System - Gestures - Quick Tap, you can essentially turn a tap on the back of your phone into the old FPS swipe.

Works a charm.

I must be looking at different photos--the second pic looks far worse. Only the bright part of the pumpkin is moderately in focus and the narrow depth of field isn't creating a good 'portrait' mode look, just making everything slightly blurry. Nearly all of the first picture is in focus with greater dynamic range--lower lit areas show much more detail. First looks infinitely better to my eye.

If it makes a difference, I'm viewing the images on a new 16" MBP (not flexing, just showing I'm not looking on a smaller phone display ;))

I will have to see it on my Mac viewing through the Pixel my phones picks for me the pic lmao ..that's what they call Google intelligence hehe

Next stop. My favorite brewery in MN for some " objective " photo comparisons.

Thank you so much!

Agree this is my SOT today with 40% left, much better than yesterday which was already pretty good. Also been on 5g today.
Nice looking good there. I'm very happy with battery life.. Today I burned through some battery using Android Auto for about an hour and 40 minutes. Music and maps going definitely kills a little bit of the battery, but I haven't found a phone that holds up while I'm using it

People who ordered the 6 and may be worrying about the display.

Stop!

While on paper the 6 screen is inferior to my Pixel 3 in some specifications (PPI for instance), it is actually a really good display. Mind you I am daily driving an iPhone 13 pro, and Xs Max that have higher PPI and technically get brighter.

The Pixel 6 (non pro)
- Has good color accuracy in my opinion
- has good viewing angles
- has adequate brightness
- 90hz is really good for apps I use, keep in mind Safari on the 13 Pro models does not ramp up to 120hz so Firefox and Chrome on the Pixel look far better even at 90hz as compared to the iPhones
- Fingerprint sensor is decent, not as good as the back sensor on the 3, but I am still having good luck with it.

::EDIT::

Video sample
iPhone XS Max which has higher PPI and more Pixels, versus the Pixel 6. Using the "Natural" color profile of the 6 the overall image is cooler than the iPhone, but viewing angles and picture quality is quite nice. I would argue the 6 has deeper blacks, and a more correct color profile at this level. If you like more saturation you can kick it up with one of the other two options on the phone.

Neither are very good but I'm generally not a fan of the way the Pixel is trying to turn a barely lit image look like the middle of the day. I appreciate how Samsung and Apple do their 'night mode' much more--makes it look like a better lit night time image, if that makes any sense.

Yeah not really a great example as lighting was awful.

Excellent comparison vid, thanks! I'm loving these posts especially since the Pixel isn't being released in my country so I can't check them out for myself before ordering.

So the vid is not much smaller on the Pixel, but still noticeably smaller. In this vid, does the video on the Pixel extend all the way out to the bezel (long sides)?

Thanks to everyone posting samples. My husband and I tried to get pictures of the candles on our table at the restaurant last night, but the waiter kept zooming over and asking if we were okay, did we need anything, and trying to see the screens on the phones. We were clearly not taking photos of other people, of which there were few, just a damn candle and glass, so it’s not like we were disrupting the restaurant. It was weird and unnerving and he walked in enough that his crotch was in the background. 🤣

What little I could observe of our ruined photos is that the elderly iPhone XR produces a well exposed softer image that captures the scene most closely to what the eye sees in dim lighting. iPhone 13 Pro Max produces an image where highlights and contrasts hinted at in the XR image are amped up so that texture is exaggerated in dim light and everything looks more dramatic. The Pixel 6 Pro more evenly exposes the subject so you can see details that remain in shadows on the XR image. To me, overall the Pixel photos seemed more pleasing, but zooming in on details revealed the iPhone captured and retained more texture details. Pixel images also tended to be cooler than what our eyes perceived in person.

I’m frankly shocked how competitive the XR camera still is. I’m pretty sure this XR is better in every way than my original XR from a few years ago was. The display is definitely better. It just can’t give you images your own eyes can’t see the way the newer cameras with the night modes can.

The one test we haven’t done is trying to freeze action with pets in indoor lighting. Our newer iPhones, the 12’s Pro and non Pro can do this very well and the 13 Pros still can but sometimes struggle more. XR in indoor lighting probably can’t, judging from my kid’s photos. Samsung S21 Ultra and earlier can’t. Samsung is really honestly just sad at that sort of thing.

It’s frustrating as weather is awful here so not got much Chance to test out the cameras on good lighting yet. With heavy rain forecasted for tomorrow as well :(

My Pixel originating from Rancho Cucamonga is still listed as being at the California FedEx facility. My Trade in box arrived days ago. I’m in the same mess with my Apple Watch. The trade in box arrived days ago but the watch only recently moved from China and should get to me tomorrow. I’m going to have to spend tomorrow contacting Apple and Google to let them know I can’t send my trade ins by the deadline at this rate.

I might be able to make the Apple deadline but I’m only going to have a couple of days to evaluate the new watch.

I did some searches and found there are people on other forums like Reddit that have their Pixels stuck with mine. One person said their phone was moving but it was bouncing around from facility to facility between California and Illinois (I think is what he said) last week, but not getting any closer to his house until one day it just showed up, unexpectedly.

I wish I could just cancel now and do this all later in the year like I’d originally planned. But honestly I’m not sure this issue with transportation is going to be any better then, either. I’m really nervous about Christmas. Best Buy already looks like it was ransacked in a raid. They even sold off display models apparently or they had displays stolen? It was weirdly apocalyptic when I dropped in last week.

I gotta say, I don't love how warm the Pixel 6 gets. It's never hot, but it is noticeably warm. In contrast, I never noticed my S21 Ultra heat up under any circumstance. The P6 meanwhile, gets warm when just browsing the internet on 5G.

Yeah we are having the same conditions. I still think I could put up a decent photo comparison once I get my Pixel but I’m going to replicate the candles at the restaurant scene, minus the waiter’s crotch. 😆

I guess the delay in delivery of my Pixel is okay though. I am taking a break from even glancing at OLED displays. So I’m not even using the cameras on my other iPhones. I can’t believe a free iPhone just showed up on my doorstep last week (lol at first we thought my husband’s Pixel arrived early). I do have to keep an eye on storage since it’s only 64 gb but I can’t believe how happy I am to be back on an XR. No more weird pulsing eye and head pain. No more vertigo. The display is beautiful. The black color of the phone is beautiful and soothing. I can’t believe my good fortune!

Using the pixel this morning I've noticed the same.

That’s been my experience on 5G with iPhones recently. Little hand warmers.

Samsung got pretty obsessed with cooling their phones ever since the Note 7.
