She is. And since she was so young when it happened (I adopted her this way), she really has no idea that she's missing anything.

There was an article in the Denver Post recently about a service dog who had to have one of his front legs removed but was still able help his person after he had recovered. In the article they quoted the vet as saying, "We joke sometimes that dogs are born with three legs and a spare".

Animals really seem to live in the present and aren't concerned about what they're missing.

Dog: Oscar, 3 year old (appx.) Beagle mix. Adopted him after he was saved from a very abusive home. Poor little guy! It's taken a couple of years, but he's finally starting to behave like a normal dog.

Cat: Derby, she'll be two at the end of April. She's a diva cat.

Horse: Kiddo (show name Paint It Black). He'll be 19 in May. I've had him since 2003 and used to show him extensively but he's been in semi-retirement for the last year.

Breakaway cross-ties. He's usually in leather (his previous owner from when he was still racing gave me his fancy track halter which I love), but the halter was a gift from a non-horsey family member so picture was taken.
