OMG I want stingrays sooo bad. I'm waiting though until I land a new job and can put more $$$ towards a nice tank.
I hope this doesn't count as a double post, but my tank is cycled and has been stable for a week and I bought fish today.
I wanted neon tetras but apparently according to the internet my tank isn't quite big enough (its 8 gallons) so I grabbed three fancy tail guppies and three ghost shrimp.

I used to hate when my stars would run all over my frags! Although it's not very harmful, I used to think every little touch on my tank would ruin it, which is now why I do not have one coincidentally haha
Sorry to hear that. Did you test the water to see if anything was out of the ordinary with that?
All three combined wouldn't be enough for one roll 😛
Yep but everything except the pH was fine.
I've been having a ridiculous problem with pH. It'll be 6.4 out of the tap (and after gassing off) but within literally 30 min to an hour of putting it in the tank the pH is down to an unreadably low level. The crushed coral never made it here in time, and the pH Up I bought at the store did literally nothing to increase the pH.
I did water changes daily to try and keep it the best I could but the one day the two fish and the snail just up and died with no warning. They looked like they were doing fine (I had them for a few weeks) but apparently not :/

That sucks. Again, I'm sorry that happened again. Your pH is low, but I don't know what the recommended pH is for the kind of fish you had. If it's close, fish can adapt to it as long as the pH is steady and not rapidly changing.
6.8 - 7 was recommended for my fish, but sadly I couldn't keep it high enough. I'm not totally sure thats the problem though. I had fish in this same tank in february and all died within 5 hours :/
I'm really wondering if its not something with the water out of my tap. I treat it, but maybe the treatment isn't enough.
*gasp!* I could never eat my pet frogs! (Although they are getting big enough 😛 )
All kidding aside that really sucks. I'd love the have those frogs, and I'd like to own a nice salt water aquarium some day.
It's not the pH, it's was only slightly lower and fish can adapt to that change. It must be something else in the water. I wouldn't try and increase the pH as it is very difficult to do and usually doesn't work or doesn't last.

Very nice! But I almost feel sorry for them, it looks too clinical... Nothing to play with, nowhere to hide, nothing to do... But maybe fish don't care about things like that? Poor fishies 😉
I want a salt water badly, but I'll wait until I get settled at a different job first.
The ammonia and nitrites were zero, as were the nitrates (something that people on the aquarium forums thought were odd).
Also I should mention my plants are dying as well. I have a java fern and some other type of plant and they're both dying.
The tank appeared to be cycled. It was a month and a half before I put my second round of fish in (I did a fish less cycle after the first batch died). Any ammonia added dropped to zero within 24 hours of being added.
Zero Nitrates is a little strange, but you did say that you were doing daily water changes. How much (%) were you doing. Changing the water daily might have stressed the fish out? Just throwing ideas out here

Maybe try it with just water in the tank and see what happens?
A great blue heron stopped by my pond for a few fish snacks.
