My Collection Of Sunsets

Still looking for a really good dusk/dawn photo, but here are a few I've taken this year. Let me know what you think of them ... click the pic for a larger version.

The stories behind the pictures (going left-right)
1. Winter morning at the bus stop, thin crescent moon still in the sky.
2. Sunset in Eastman, GA (Habitat for Humanity trip) ... the shore in the foreground matched the tree line in the background nicely, and there was a nice color gradient in the sky ... one of my fav pictures.
3. Sunset from New Orleans ... blurry but returns memories of the devastation I witnessed there.
4. Sunset from Savanna, GA, again from a moving car but the lower half of the sun intrigued me.
5. I came across this by chance ... the sky was just a blood red from the sunset, and the horizontal clouds seemingly reflected the sun ...
6. Right when I got home from volunteering in New Orleans ... from warm weather to winter and snow. Ah how I missed the snow ...
7. Portion of a panoramic shoot from school. This is the Minneapolis skyline with the Metrodome and the Washington bridge across the Mississippi visible.

Seems to be a good theme for the monthly assignments. :)

Here's a couple from November, 2003 right after the wildfires in San Diego. I was in the mountains East of town to catch the lunar eclipse and as we drove out the sky exploded with these colors. It's one of the most amazing sunsets I've ever seen.

They're nothing fantastic...

But they're memorable! Sunrise from the peak of Mt. Haleakala in Maui (did I spell that correctly?).

Both of these are from an Olympus C-2100 UZ ...

Sunrise + Venus, taken 31 July 2004 @ Camp Thunderbird in Cairo, MO. I was walking to the showerhouse and saw this awesome sunrise, then noticed Venus just above the treeline. I grabbed my camera and here's the result.

... and ...

I walked out of my last final @ UAH and saw this spectacular sunset. I was lucky enough to have a camera and tripod in the truck, so I drove to the corner of campus, setup, and snapped this just before the sunset faded away.

The rocket in the bottom of the picture is a full-scale model of the Saturn V (located at the US Space and Rocket Center here in Huntsville), which was engineered in Huntsville, AL to carry the Apollo missions to the moon. The white blur in the corner is the moon. The smaller blurs are street lamps on Sparkman Drive.

These are excellent pictures. I have never managed to take a sunset/sunrise that I'm pleased with, but I'd certainly be happy with a lot of these! RowerCPU - those colours are gobsmacking.

You sure that's not a hot pixel? :p :)

Nice! You spelled it right - and I can't think of a better place to take a sunrise photo than there ("haleakala" translates as "house of the sun"). :)

Lots of very nice photos in this thread. Guess I'll post a couple of mine...
