As always, mouth-watering photography and presentation; not to mention delicious food.

In any case, I am openly envious of the excellent restaurants that you clearly have access to.

thanks. what's funny is most of these restaurants are abroad. if we eat out locally, it's only a few restaurants that we frequent. creatures of habit in that sense.

@Mr Kram - very nice. I need to hit some nice restaurants in NYC.

Remembered to take a picture before I ate.

Brunch today:

roasted veggies and a bowl of cucumbers, yellow peppers and avocado liberally hit with cayenne pepper.

Lovely texture journey. I'm curious about the breakfast plate. I see smoked sardine, smoked herring and what looks like herring in cream and white onion in the middle? Also what looked like sauteed jalapeno with squid, tamagoyaki and plain hijiki tossed in toasted sesame oil?

on the plate starting at the top going clockwise, stewed okra with canned tuna, saba, tamago, hijiki, iwashi. in the middle is some salad with renkon and gobo. i have complete forgotten what was in the glass. it was japanese for sure as i ate no western offerings that day. then of course, hiyayakko, kare rice with hot dog, natto and tomato juice. :)

Hot dog? Odd. I know the Koreans have a fondness for hot dogs. Brave man eating natto. It's one of the few Japanese foods I can't manage to consume.

japanese like hot dogs. have you ever seen the octopus shaped hot dogs in kid's meals? also, i grew up eating natto, so it's no big deal for me. it's rather delicious in fact. my 11 year old has eating it since she was able to eat solid food. she loves it too!

Can't say I have. I tried natto for its K2, but quickly learned it wasn't for me. Taking a pill is easier.

My wife is polish. She will eat it one way - sandwiched between two shiso leaves, tempura battered and deep fried. :)

Nowhere close to lettuce. It is very herbaceous. Texture is rougher, like mint. This green version is milder than the red or purple variety.
