Just upgraded to a Motorola SB6120 SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 eXtreme Broadband Cable Modem. Tried to see if Comcast has upgraded to DOCSIS 3.0 in my area but Comcast isn't saying(at least on their website). Well my speeds have increased and according to Comcast I am getting DOCSIS 3.0 speeds in their Performance service (12Mbps download and 2 Mbps upload). So, happy. BUT can't believe some of these speeds. WOW! I can understand the speeds at university but some of the speeds from regular providers are awesome.
Well, I've been doing some more checking. Lately I've been getting my best result from a server in Montreal even though it's 850 miles away. Anyway, quite a bit better than my previous post. I still haven't been able to find out if Comcast has upgraded to DOCSIS 3.0 in my area.
*** The statement in the first post above "according to Comcast I am getting DOCSIS 3.0 speeds in their Performance service (12Mbps download and 2 Mbps upload)" was reference to their website where they listed their speeds with and without DOCSIS 3.0. I still don't know if this standard is available in my area. One thing I've noticed is that my Motorola SB6120 SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 eXtreme Broadband Cable Modem now displays a solid blue light indicating a "bonded" channel. Guess that's a good thing and maybe an indication of Comcast going to DOCSIS 3.0 (yes/no????). With the increase in my results maybe they are on DOCSIS 3.0.
I recently received an offer from Comcast to upgrade my service. According to Comcast I have their "Performance" internet service (15Mbps down with powerboost). Here's their pricing tier:
Blast: downloads up to 20Mbps w/powerboost for an additional $10/month
Ultra: downloads up to 30Mbps for an additional $20 month
Extreme: downloads up to 50Mbps for an additional $57 month
*new modem may be required.(Hmmmmm, DOSCIS 3.0 modem perhaps....does this mean that they have DOSCIS 3.0 in my area now???)
So, with my current cost of $42/month for my "Performance" service the price per month is as follows: Blast/$52.95; Ultra/$62.95; and Extreme/$99.95. Wow! I like fast internet but don't think I can afford these prices. Well, maybe Blast for an extra $10 a month but I seem to be getting it right now
. Think prices will go down with Comcast buying NBC????? Yeah, right. Just thought I'd share.
