Hooray for being in Australia. Our exchange here is not fast enough to get any internet quicker than that, at the moment there is a petition for getting a faster exchange to support ADSL2+

Yuck Comcast:

I have a 16/2 Business connection. I signed up to upgrade to 22/5; hope to have it installed by this week.

how on earth can your speeds double what you signed up for!? thats not fair!

Business service when everyone else has residential means priority packets and priority service!

No really, it's all a scam. Comcast has this "feature" they call PowerBoost. Basically in the first 40MB-50MB of a download, your speeds are "boosted"; the kicker here is it's only temporary and obviously the boosted speed is not guaranteed. For residential service, they advertise the PowerBoost speed. So in my case, the residential side would advertise as 20/4, but in reality you'll only have 16/2. For a lot of files, like music, YouTube clicks, webpages, you'll get the quick speed, but if you're a download rat like me (I clocked 3.5TB last month), I get the 16/2 that I signed up for. Of course since I also have a business account, they have to advertise the real speed and guarantee it, so hence the 16/2; they can "boost" it, but have to be able to maintain the minimum.

If you read their fine print, for residential, it's up-to the advertised speed; with business they pretty much have to deliver (of course they do leave themselves headroom, but the idea is that).

Also with getting the speed that I posted, pretty much the 16/2 is a DOSCIS 2.0 tier; instead of using their modem, I bought my own DOSCIS 3.0 modem, which means when they boost me, they boost me to almost twice as much (which doesn't normally happen).

thats a nice advantage of cable i guess. here in aust with ADSL2+ you cant go any faster because there are physical limits and bandwidth cant be stolen from other lines because they arent shared. well, im sure there is a way - but why would they do that!?

hmm 3.5TB. if only. can i ask how much you pay? for ADSL2+ (20MB/s DOWN, 1MB/s UP) and 25GB cap ("downgraded" to 64kbps once we go over that) we are paying $100Aus per month. this is as fast as it gets, 60GB cap is the next level but costs $150 or so a month.

do you know how painful 25GB per month is?!?! do not come to australia ;)

can i come live with you for a bit haha!?? (kidding).

why do you download so much? because you can? or for work (snort) :D ;)

^^ you get better upload than I do

Our internet is unmetered so we can use almost 1 TB a month (limited to 3.06 Mbps down.) + the slug upload. We get better than what we pay for which is rare for residential connections apparently.

For residential service, they advertise the PowerBoost speed. So in my case, the residential side would advertise as 20/4, but in reality you'll only have 16/2. If you pause the download and then restart it, do you get powerboost for 40-50 more MB

Also with getting the speed that I posted, pretty much the 16/2 is a DOSCIS 2.0 tier; instead of using their modem, I bought my own DOSCIS 3.0 modem, which means when they boost me, they boost me to almost twice as much (which doesn't normally happen).
Nice idea, wonder if they care about that?

this is as fast as it gets in my area - slovenia. they are building optical network that you can use already in capital and some other large cities, but if you live on the country, you'il have to wait for at least for a year.

not bad though. subscription is around 35€/month

This is what you get when the only people offering ADSL2+ is Telstra, and i don't feel like selling my soul... yet.
