I moved into a new apartment over the weekend and finally got high speed Internet access again. I have three screen captures. The first is my Sprint MiFi 3G that I have had for a long time, next is my Charter Cable which I just hooked up on Friday, and then the last is my office speed. I wish I had the upload speed at home that I get at the office!

impressive office speed! how big is the company!?

It's a county government network which leases fiber from our local Intermediate School District. We have three POP locations and one of them is in my head end room. :D

HAH! so no complaints then ;)

any limits/caps to downloading? :D

Nope, no limits or caps. Because I had the MiFi card for years as my only home ISP, I had to do all my heavy downloading at work and then bring it home.

I am currently on the same internet plan purchased in 1997, time for an upgrade. My ISP offers $99.99/mo for what they claim is 50mb/s. Will it be slowed down if I have about 6 or 7 wifi devices connected, not used all at the same time but a few are.

Also, if they claim to give you 50mb/s but if you don't get a speed test of 50 mb/s, are you being ripped off?

Yes, it definitely will go down with each device used at the same time. But 50gb is WELL more than enough for 10 devices to be connected at the same time doing pretty intensive downloading.

And most ISP's claim "up to" 50gb, or whatever. "Up to" is key. You most likely won't ever get exactly that, but depending on a few factors, you should get close to it.

$100 a month  That seems like a lot of cash, no?

These connection speeds are sad compared to the rest but as far as I know I can't get anything better where I live so I'll check if I can upgrade.

I wish I had FiOS… :(

My parents pay $89.95 for a 50/20 (Download/Upload) connection from FiOS and they're not capped as far as I know.
I have to pay $189.95 for a 50/10 connection from Comcast and it's only because I have a business connection that they don't really cap much (otherwise I'd be stuck at 250GB/month maximum).

On the bright side, I do get those speeds 100%* of the time. :)

*100% of the time when I know the server on the other end is capable of saturating my bandwidth.
