Although I don't think it makes a huge noticeable difference it does make a difference for sure.

Yeah, it definitely makes a difference. Right now, I'm at my parents' house but I've Verizon FIOS at hom in VA. If I'm connected via CAT5 at home and run Speakeasy's test, I get approx. 15000kbps down on a consistent basis. If I run the same test via wifi, I get approx. 11000kbps down. A 4 meg difference is pretty huge, IMO.

I remember that if I'm hardwired in, I get 2000kbps up. I don't remember the upload rate when testing via wifi.

On one of my Macs of course
Aloha everyone,

I just tested my MacBook Pro using Airport. I have Road Runner cable access and use a D-Link Di-624 802.11G wireless router. Still, it is pretty fast.

Testing my wifi connection on my FIOS connection, I'm getting the below:

Here's my CAT5 connection speed:

There's obviously an issue with my download speed that I'll follow up with Verizon tomorrow. :(

speakeasy.net:
3115 kbps DOWNLOAD
465 kbps UPLOAD

strange how the 2 tests give a large difference in download speeds!!

Still can't do better than 350 kbps per second (I've posted my speeds before and I can never break 350-360 kbps) no matter WHAT I do, are there any ISP network gurus out there that know why this is? Is it because my ISP is limiting my up speed?

It's drives me nuts. I frequently have to upload fairly large image files to the server at work and it's torturous, almost like watching paint dry.

Well, this is disappointing. I'm currently subscribed to an SBC DSL Elite line, getting between 6-8mb/down and about 700K/up.

Well, internet was feeling a bit sluggish today, and so I thought I'd check... looks like I'll have a phone call to make tomorrow.

Texas, unfortunately.
My provider finally fixed thier problems (They were running off a generator for a while.) I had no idea it was this fast! Although the upload speed is a bit dissappointing, its not a big deal

Good luck... we have the same service and about the same speeds and they don't give a f***.
