South African DSL sucks. The fastest broadband available is 4Mbps down, and 512kbps up (which I have), but it is about $300 a month, and it is unreliable:(

I've got a package deal - cable (~200 channels plus DVR) and internet from Comcast for $90/month. Used to be $70 for all that plus the HBO lineup, but my one-year deal ran out.

you are lucky, I pay 72 for satellite +dvr) and an extra 36 for dsl from bellsouth (not the highest end one, used to be though). total 108.

I can't get comcast cable internet here at my house. I live in the country.
don't complain, you have it cheaper than some of us.

Lucky you.
I can't even get knology out here. :(

My local cable company used to advertise 5 Mb but it typically ran between 2 to 3 Mb. At one point they bumped up the speed and for a few days I was seeing 10 to 11 Mb! I couldn't believe it. I knew it wouldn't last long and, yes, it did drop to a more realistic 6 Mb and on slow days it runs about 5 Mb. Definitely usable and I am happy with it considering there is only one cable company and one telephone company in my area which I can use.

The attached images show my typical speed and the speed I had for a few days.

$300 a month -- Ouch!

I hope they get the infrastructure built up soon.

Japan was terrible in the early 90's. They were behind everyone. Their government made a concerted effort to change things and they have. Now Japan is better than most places on speed, throughput, and availability. Not country wide mind you, but in most places.

I wish the US and others would follow suit.

I swear this is legit.
Orange County, Cox High-Speed Cable.

They came out once to fix some crap and said they have never seen such a fast connection. It has to do with my new neighborhood all wired with optical lines or something.

Wildblue speed

Anyone else use Wildblue? I just moved my service from the "residential" (512/128 at $50/mo) to the "home office" (1024/200 at $70/mo) and this is the new result.
