Comcast using the DC Server about 40 miles from my house. Yesterday It was up to 8 MB/s. My families network recently upgraded to 801.11G from using 802.11b for five years.

I just redid the test using the New York Server I got 5.8 MB/s.
Using the Washington, DC server 6.6 MB/s download 366 KB/s upload.

Make all those 'b''s lower cased!!

Speed is measured in bits per second, not bytes per second.
Bits are a small 'b', while bytes are a large 'b'.
8 bits in a byte, thus, 1MB/s = 8Mb/sec.
