a profane existence
On the Wireless at Uni using a PC 500+MHz laptop that I checked out from the Student Union Building:

Download Speed: 3589 kbps (448.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 4287 kbps (535.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

When I get out into the real world I hope to have a nice paying job where I can afford some of the speeds posted here.

Very clever, guess it's too late for me though. :(

Not if you have Cox as I do.

Called them last night about possible changes to my TV service. Was sweet talked in to doing their Premiere HSI (15 up/2 down) for just $29.95 a month for six months. A savings of $10 a month over their 5/2 service. Lets hope they do for me what Comcast did.

BTW here are my numbers DC first, NYC second, and SF last (pretty disappointed so far):

With that American tester:
Down: 858 kb/s
Up: 168 kb/s

If I use a local one, I get 1486 kb/s down (it doesn't test upload). My connection is rated at 2048/192.

Edit: BitTorrent downloads usually go at 1800 or higher.

Seems like a pretty high D/L anyone have any idea why my Upload seems to be low?

I never thought it would be so high compared to some. I am on a Comcast Cable Modem w/ Linksys Wired Router sharing the connection with 3 computers in North Delaware in case anyone cares.

DOH! You reminded me that I am wireless to my cable modem connection. Will have to try setting up a test hardwired in.

With cable the download speed is usually as fast as the line will let you go. This is dependent on distance from exchange and how many people are using the line. While the upload is usually capped.

My friend for example is on cable and has a down of 8000 kbs (64000 kbps) while his up is capped at 128 kbps  This is on some days, but as an average he gets 3000 kbs (24000 kbps)

Try it again late at night, and I guarantee that the upload will be higher.
I just downloaded the Lightroom demo, with the samples, and averaged well over 400KBps.

Look impressive compared to the crap cable company I have at home. This is my corporate connection.

I wonder how slow it is at home...
