He-he, beaten by a couple of minutes...

Here's my effort (png file, needs to be run through pic2icon or similar):

idisk_v.png

The tif is in the attached zip file (if you prefer to use Icon Composer).

I love the Mybook one, got it in blue? I have the larger drive and it's blue!

I just got a MyBook and had to make the right icon for it. I started making just the Premium Edition icons, then decided to do the whole line.

BTW: The icon pictures are from the WD MyBook site, so I didn't technically 'create' the icons. :)

Superb! I've been looking all over the place for ages for a decent Pro II icon and all along it was here on Mac Rumors.

Has anyone got, or point me in the right direction to, an iMac G5/Intel-type icon I can use for my hard-drive?

How do I change my HD icon?

:D

You could use Candybar or instead, highlight the HD and press (command and i). Do the same on the imac icon and click on the icon in the top left of the window that appears for the icon that you are trying to copy so that the edges become blue. (Command and c) that. Highlight in blue the icon of you HD and (command and v) and it should change. Is this clear??

I use Icon Composer, which is a part of Apple's Developer Tools. Just dragging in whatever images I want to make icns files of and let Icon Composer scale them. It even handles psd files just fine. :)

Here's an example where I drag in a png file, 128 x 128 went fine, but when I drag it into the 48 x 48 version, it needs scaling:

And it also makes a mask:

When all the fields (that I want) is filled I can just save it as a new icns file.

Does anyone know how to change the Finder icon and the System Preferences icon? The above method doesn't work... Thanx!
Don't know about System Preferences, but changing the Finder icon is fairly easy, just navigate to /System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app/Contents/Resources/ and find and replace the file finder.png with another transparent 128 x 128 png file. (Remember to backup the Dock.app first.)

Then navigate to /Library/Caches/ and delete the com.apple.dock.iconcache.50x file(s) and restart the Dock (log out and back in or use the killall Dock command in Terminal).

If you want special dvd covers to match the movies, then I guess you're best option is to just replace them by hand (instructions earlier in this thread), but if you have one generic video cover icon that you want for all movie files assosiated with QuickTime, you need to replace (at least) the /Applications/Quick Time Player.app/Contents/resources/r129.icns (movie), r138.icns (avi), r174.icns (mpeg4), r179 (3gpp), etc. just look for all the file types you need to change. And, please, backup the Quick Time Player.app before you start.

I can't find the directions on how to change the artwork for each movie.
